When locking, they flash three times.
You can also set an audible signal to confirm
that the vehicle has been locked. The audible
signal can be activated or deactivated using the on-board computer (Y page 219).
When it is dark, the surround lighting also comes
on if it is activated in the on-board computer
(Y page 218). KEYLESS-GO
General notes Bear in mind that the engine can be started by
any of the vehicle occupants if there is a KEY-
LESS-GO key in the vehicle (Y page 134).
Locking and unlocking centrally You can start, lock or unlock the vehicle using
KEYLESS-GO. To do this, you need to carry the
key with you. You can combine the KEYLESS-GO
functions with the functions of a conventional
key. Unlock the vehicle by using KEYLESS-GO,
for instance, and lock it using the &button
on the key.
When locking or unlocking with KEYLESS-GO,
the distance between the key and the corre-
sponding door handle must not be greater than 1 m.
A check which periodically establishes a radio
connection between the vehicle and the key
determines whether a valid key is in the vehicle. This occurs, for example:
R when the external door handles are touched
R when starting the engine
R whilst driving X
To unlock the vehicle: touch the inner sur-
face of the door handle.
X To lock the vehicle: touch sensor sur-
face :.
X Convenience closing feature: touch
recessed sensor surface ;for an extended
period.

To unlock the boot lid: pull the boot lid han-
dle.
The vehicle only unlocks the boot lid.
Deactivating and activating If you do not intend to use a key for an extended
period of time, you can deactivate the KEYLESS-
GO function of the key. The key will then use very
little power, thereby conserving battery power.
For the purposes of activation or deactivation,
the vehicle does not have to be nearby. Key

To deactivate: press the&button on the
key twice in rapid succession.
The battery indicator light of the key
(Y page 77) flashes twice briefly and lights
up once. KEYLESS-GO is then deactivated.
X To activate: press any button on the key.

KEYLESS-GO and all of its associated features
are available again. Changing the settings of the locking
system
You can change the settings of the locking sys-
tem. This means that only the driver's door and
the fuel filler flap are unlocked when the vehicle is unlocked. This is useful if you frequently travelon your own.
X To change the setting: simultaneously press
the % and& buttons on the key for
approximately six seconds until the battery
check lamp flashes twice (Y page 77).
If the setting of the locking system is changed
within the signal range of the vehicle, pressing
the & or% button:
R locks or
R unlocks the vehicle
The key now functions as follows:
X To unlock: press the%button once.
X To unlock centrally: press the%button
twice.
X To lock centrally: press the&button.
The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as fol-
lows:
X To unlock the driver's door: touch the inner
surface of the door handle on the driver's
door.
X To unlock centrally: touch the inner surface
of the front-passenger door handle.
X To lock centrally: touch the outer sensor
surface on one of the door handles.
X To restore the factory settings: press and
hold down the %and& buttons simul-
taneously for approximately six seconds until
the battery check lamp flashes twice
(Y page 77). Emergency key element
General notes If the vehicle can no longer be locked or
unlocked with the key, use the emergency key
element.
If you use the emergency key element to unlock
and open the driver's door or the boot lid, the
anti-theft alarm system will be triggered. Switch
off the alarm (Y page 71).
If you unlock the vehicle using the emergency
key element, the fuel filler flap will not be
unlocked automatically.
X To unlock the fuel filler flap: insert the key
into the ignition lock.

Checking the battery X
Press the &or% button.
The battery is OK if battery check lamp :
lights up briefly. The battery is discharged if battery check

If the battery of the key is checked within the
signal reception range of the vehicle, pressing

When the double locks are activated, the
doors can no longer be opened from the
inside. People in the vehicle can no longer get out, e.g. in hazardous situations. There is a
risk of injury.
Therefore, do not leave any people unsuper-
vised in the vehicle, particularly children, eld-
erly people or people in need of special assis-
tance. Do not activate the double lock when
people are in the vehicle. If the vehicle has been locked from the outside,
the double lock function is activated as stand-
ard. It is then not possible to open the doors
from inside the vehicle. You can deactivate the
double lock function by deactivating the interior
motion sensor (Y page 73). The doors can then
be opened from the inside after the vehicle has
been locked from the outside. The anti-theft
alarm system is triggered if the door is opened

When leaving the vehicle, always take the key with you and lock the vehicle. Never leave
children and animals unattended in the vehi-
cle. Keep the keys out of the reach of children. Unlocking and opening the doors
from the inside
! The side windows will not open/close if the
battery is discharged or if the side windows
have iced up. It will then not be possible to
close the door. Do not attempt to force the
door to close. You could otherwise damage
the door or the side window.
For all countries except the United Kingdom: you can open a door from inside the vehicle evenif it has been locked.
If the vehicle has previously been locked from
the outside, opening a door from the inside will
trigger the anti-theft alarm system. Switch off
the alarm (Y page 71).
Only for the United Kingdom: if the vehicle
has been locked with the key from the outside,
the double lock function is activated as stand-
ard. It is then not possible to open the doors
from inside the vehicle. You can deactivate the
double lock function by deactivating the interior
motion sensor (Y page 72). The doors can then
be opened from the inside after the vehicle has
been locked from the outside. The anti-theft

If children operate the side windows they
could become trapped, particularly if they are left unsupervised. There is a risk of injury.
Activate the override feature for the rear side
windows. When leaving the vehicle, always
take the key with you and lock the vehicle.
Never leave children unattended in the vehi-
cle. Side window reversing feature
The side windows are equipped with an auto-
matic reversing feature. If a solid object blocks
or restricts a side window during the closing
process, the side window opens again automat-
ically. The automatic reversing feature is, how-
ever, only an aid and is no substitute for your
attention when closing a side window. G
WARNING
The reversing function does not react:
R to soft, light and thin objects, e.g. small fin-
gers
R over the last 4 mm of the closing movement
R during resetting
R when closing the side window again man-
ually immediately after automatic reversing
This means that the reversing function cannot prevent someone being trapped in these sit-
uations. There is a risk of injury.
When closing make sure that no parts of the
body are in the closing area. If someone
becomes trapped, press the switch to open
the side window again. Opening and closing the side win-
dows
The switches for all side windows are located on
the driver's door. There is also a switch on the
front-passenger door as well as on the doors in
the rear compartment on the left and right-hand sides for the corresponding side window.
The switches on the driver's door take prece-
dence. :

X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
X To open manually: press and hold the cor-
responding button.
X To open fully: press the button beyond the
point of resistance and release it.
Automatic operation is started.
X To close manually: pull and hold the corre-
sponding switch.
X To close fully: pull the corresponding switch
beyond the pressure point.
Automatic operation is started.
X To interrupt automatic operation: press/
pull the corresponding switch again.
You can use automatic operation when opening or closing the front side windows. To do so,
press or pull the switch to just beyond the point
of resistance in the corresponding direction.
You can stop automatic operation by pressing or pulling again.
You can continue to operate the side windows
after switching off the engine or removing the
key. This function remains active for five
minutes or until the driver's or front-passenger
door is opened.
The side windows cannot be operated from the
rear when the override feature for the side win-
dows is activated (Y page 61). Side windows

If a side window can no longer be closed fully,
you must reset it.
X Close all doors.
X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
X Pull the corresponding switch on the door
control panel until the side window is com-
pletely closed (Y page 85).
X Hold the switch for an additional second.
If the side window opens again slightly: X Immediately pull the corresponding switch on
the door control panel until the side window is completely closed (Y page 85).
X Hold the switch for an additional second.
X If the corresponding side window remains
closed after the button has been released, the
side window has been reset correctly. If this is
not the case, repeat the steps above again. Side windows

Problems with the side windows

WARNING
If you close a side window again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the side window
closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing function is then not active. Parts of the
body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an increased risk of injury or even fatal injury.
Make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area. To stop the closing process, releasethe switch or push the switch again to reopen the side window. Problem

While opening and closing the sliding sunroof, body parts in close proximity could become
trapped. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the opening and closing pro- cedures.
If somebody becomes trapped:
R release the switch immediately, or
R during automatic operation, press the
switch briefly in any direction The opening or closing procedure will be stop-
