Do not allow brake/clutch fluid to
contact the vehicle's body paint, as
paint damage will result.
Brake/clutch fluid, which has been
exposed to open air for an extended
time should never be used as its
qualit y cannot be guaranteed. It
should be properly disposed. Don't
put in the wrong kind of fluid. A few
drop s of mineral-based oil, such as
engine oil, in your brake/clutch sys-
tem can damage brake/clutch sys-
t em parts. NOTICE
Brake/clutch fluid
When changing and adding
brake/clutch fluid, handle it care-
fully. Do not let it com e in contact
with your eyes. If brake/clutch fluid
come in contact with your eyes,
immediately flush the m with a
large quantity of fresh tap water.
Have your eyes examined by a
doctor as soon as possible.

 $#!Checking the washer fluid level Check the fluid level in the washer
fluid reservoir and add fluid if neces-
sary. Plain water may be used if
washer fluid is not available.
However, use washer solvent with
antifreeze characteristics in cold cli-
mates to prevent freezing.
Checking the parking brakeCheck the stroke of the parking
brake by counting the number of
“clicks’’ heard while fully applying it
from the released position. Also, the
parking brake alone should securely
hold the vehicle on a fairly steep
grade. If the stroke is more or less
than specified, we recommend that
the system be inspected by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.Stroke : 6~8 “clicks’’ at a force of 20
kg (44 lbs, 196 N).

Coolant•
Do not use radiator coolant or
antifreeze in the washer fluid
reservoir.
•
Radiator coolant can severely
obscure visibility when sprayed
on the windshield and may
cause loss of ve hicle control or
damage to the paint and body
trim.
•
Windshield washer fluid agents
contain some amounts of alco-
hol and can be flammable under
certain circ umstances. Do not
allow sparks or flame come in
contact with the washer fluid or
the washer fluid reser voir.
Damage to the vehicle or occu- pants could occur.
•
Windshield washer fluid is poi-
sonous to humans and animals. Do not drink and avoid coming
in contact with the windshield
washer fluid. Serious injury or
death could occur.

#!$$Draining water from fuel filterThe fuel filter for diesel engine plays
an important role of separating water
from fuel and accumulating the water
in its bottom.
If water accumulates in the fuel filter,
the warning light comes on when the
ignition switch is in the ON position.
If this warning light turned
on, we recommend that
the system be serviced by
an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer.If the water accumulated in the fuel
filter is not drained at proper times,
damages to the major parts such as
the fuel system can be caused by water permeation in the fuel filter.
Extracting air from the fuel filterIf you drive until you have no fuel left
or if you replace the fuel filter, be
sure to extract air from the fuel sys-
tem as it makes it difficult to start the
engine.
1. Pump up and down(1) approxi- mately 50 times until the pump is
hard.
2. Extract air from the fuel filter by removing the bolt(2) with a cross-
tip screw driver and reinstall the
bolt(2).
3. Pump up and down(1) approxi- mately 15 times.
4. Extract air from the fuel filter by removing the bolt(2) with a cross-
tip screw driver and reinstall the
bolt(2).
5. Pump up and down(1) approxi- mately 5 times.
Information
Use cloths when you extract air sothat the fuel is not sprayed around.
Clean the fuel around the fuel filter or the injection pump before start-
ing the engine to prevent fire.
Finally, check each part if the fuel is leaking.i

!#$ "$#Filter replacement You can clean the filter when inspect-
ing the air cleaner element.
Clean the filter by using compressed
air.
1. Loosen the air cleaner cover attaching clips and open the cover. 2. Remove the used filter and wipe
the inside of the air cleaner hous-
ing carefully not to remain dusts in
the cover housing.
3. Place new filter with clean hands and ensure the rubber gasket is
not taken off.
4. Lock the cover with attaching clips.
Replace the filter according to the
Maintenance Schedule.
If the vehicle is operated in extreme- ly dusty or sandy areas, replace theelement more often than the usualrecommended intervals. (Refer to“Maintenance under severe usageconditions” in this chapter.)
• Do not drive with the filter removed; this will result in exces-
sive engine wear.
• When replacing th e air cleaner fil-
ter, be careful that dust or dirt does
not enter the air intake, or damage
may result .
Keep the new filter clean of any
contamination while replacing.
• We recommend that you use parts for re placement from an author-
ized HYUNDAI dealer.NOTICE

Don’t clean the used filter. It can
cause contaminations on the
clean side of filter to result in
engine wear or sensors’ failure.

!#$!$Filter inspectionIf the vehicle is operated in the
severely air-polluted cities or on
dusty rough roads for a long period,
it should be inspected more fre-
quently and cleaned earlier. When
you, the owner, clean the climate
control air filter, clean it performing
the following procedure, and be care-
ful to avoid damaging other compo-
nents.
Replace the filter according to the
maintenance Schedule.
Filter replacement1. Open the glove box.2. Push in both sides of the glove box
as shown. This will ensure that the
glove box stopper pins will get
released from its holding location
allowing the glove box to hang.

3. Remove the climate control air fil-ter cover by pushing or pressing
the clip (1) on left side. 4. Clean the climate control air filter.
5. Reassemble in the reverse order
of disassembly.

I nstall a new climate control air filter in
the correct direction with the arrow
symbol(
↓) facing downwards.
Otherwise, the climate control effects
may decrease, possibly with a noise.

FFront windshield wiper blade1. Raise the wiper arm and turn the
wiper blade assembly to expose
the plastic locking clip.Do not allow the wiper arm to fall
against the windshield, since it may
chip or crack the windshield.
2. Compress the clip and slide the blade assembly downward.
3. Lift it off the arm.
4. Install the blade assembly in the reverse order of removal.
Rear window wiper blade (if equipped)1.Raise the wiper arm and rotate the
wiper blade assembly (1).
2.Pull out the wiper blade assembly.

3.Install the new blade assembly by inser ting the center part into the
slot in the wiper arm until it clicks
into place.
4.Make sure the blade assembly is installed firmly by trying to pull it
slightly.
To prevent damage to the wiper arms
or other components, we recom-
mend that the wiper blade be
replaced by an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer.
