PParking Distance Warning
(Reverse) System (if equipped)The Parking Distance Warning
(Reverse) System assists the driver
during reverse movement of the vehi-
cle by chiming if any object is sensed
within the distance of about 120 cm
(47 in.) behind the vehicle. This is a supplemental system that
senses objects within the range and
location of the sensors, it cannot
detect objects in other areas where
sensors are not installed.
Operation of the Parking Distance
Warning (Reverse) SystemOperation condition • This system will activate when
backing up with the power on.
• Sensing distance when backing up is approximately 120 cm (47 in.)
when you are driving less than 10
km/h (6 mph).
• When more than two objects are sensed at the same time, the clos-
est one will be recognized first.

ALWAYS look around your vehi-
cle to make sure there are no
objects or obstacles before mov-
ing the vehicle in any direction to
prevent a collision.
•
Always pay close attention when
the vehicle is driven close to
objects, particularly pedestrians,
and especially children.

Be aware that some objects
may not be detected by the sen-
sors, due to the objects dis-
tance, size or material, all of
which can limit the effectiveness
of the sensor.

••If an object is in between sensors
or close to a sensor, the displayed
indicator may differ from the above
illustration.
• Do not wash the vehicle's sensor with high pressure water.
• When you shift into the R (Reverse) position and one or
more of the below situation occurs,
this may indicate a malfunction
with the parking assist system.
• You don't hear an audible warning sound or the buzzer sounds inter-
mittently.
If this occurs, we recommend that
the system be checked by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Non-operational conditions of Parking Distance Warning(Reverse) SystemThe Parking Distance Warning
(Reverse) System may not operate
normally when:• Moisture is frozen to the sensor.
• The sensor is covered or stained
with foreign material, such as snow
or water, or the sensor cover is
blocked.There is a possibility of a parking
assist system malfunction when:• Driving on uneven road surfacessuch as unpaved roads, gravel,
bumps, or gradient.
• Objects generating excessive noise such as vehicle horns, loud motor-
cycle engines, or truck air brakes
can interfere with the sensor.
• Heavy rain or water spray is present.
• Wireless transmitters or mobile phones are present near the sensor.
• The sensor is covered with snow.
• Any non-factory equipment or accessories have been installed, or
if the vehicle bumper height or sen-
sor installation has been modified.

switch or related parts.
Unexpected and sudden vehicle
movement can occur.
•NEVER reach through the steer
ing wheel for the ignition switch\b

ence of your hand or arm in this
area may
cause a loss of vehicle
control resulting in an accident.

•NEVER turn the ignition switch
to the LOCK or ACC position

the steering and brake systems.

To turn the engine off in an emer
gency:
Press and hold the Engine
Start/Stop button for more than
two seconds OR Rapidly press
and release the Engine Start/Stop
button three times (within three
seconds).
If the vehicle is still moving\b you
can restart the engine without
depressing the brake pedal by
pressing the Engine Start/Stop
button with the shift lever in the N
(Neutral) position.

Good braking practices Wet brakes can be dangerous! The
brakes may get wet if the vehicle is
driven through standing water or if it
is washed. Your vehicle will not stop
as quickly if the brakes are wet. Wet
brakes may cause the vehicle to pull
to one side.
To dry the brakes\b apply the brakes
lightly until the braking action returns
to normal\b taking care to keep the
vehicle under control at all times. If
the braking action does not return to
normal\b stop as soon as it is safe to
do so and we recommend that you
call an authorized HYUNDAI dealer
for assistance.
DO NOT drive with your foot resting
on the brake pedal. Even light\b but
constant pedal pressure can result in
the brakes overheating\b brake wear\b
and possibly even brake failure. If a tire goes flat while you are driv
ing\b apply the brakes gently and
keep the vehicle pointed straight
ahead while you slow down. When
you are moving slowly enough for it
to be safe to do so\b pull off the road
and stop in a safe location.
Keep your foot firmly on the brake
pedal when the vehicle is stopped to
prevent the vehicle from rolling for
ward.
Whenever leaving the vehicle or
parking\b always come to a com
plete stop and continue to depress
the brake pedal. Move the shift
lever into the 1st gear (for Manual
Transaxle vehicle) or P (Park)
position (for Automatic
Transaxle/Continuously Variable
Transaxle vehicle)\b then apply the
parking brake\b and place the igni
tion switch in the LOCK/OFF posi
tion.

injury to yourself or others.

$#!!" !If the engine doesn't turn over or
turns over slowly • Be sure the shift lever is in N
(Neutral) or P (Park) if it is a
Continuously Variable Transaxle
vehicle. The engine starts only
when the shift lever is in N
(Neutral) or P (Park).
• Check the battery connections to be sure they are clean and tight.
• Turn on the interior light. If the light dims or goes out when you operate
the starter, the battery is drained.
Do not push or pull the vehicle to
start it. This could cause damage to
your vehicle. See instructions for "Jump Starting"
provided in this chapter.
If the engine turns over normally but doesn't start • Check the fuel level and add fuel if
necessary.
If the engine still does not start, we
recommend that you call an author-
ized HYUNDAI dealer for assistance.
!$#'#"'"' %'$%'&&&%Push or pull starting the vehicle
may cause the catalytic converter
to overload which can lead to
damage to the emission control
system.
WARNING

If your temperature gauge indicates
overheating, you experience a loss
of power, or hear loud pinging or
knocking, the engine may be over-
heating. If this happens, you should:
1.Pull off the road and stop as soonas it is safe to do so.
2.Place the shift lever in P (Park, for Continuously Variable Transaxle
vehicle) or neutral (for Manual
Transaxle vehicle) and set the
parking brake. If the air condition-
ing is ON, turn it OFF.
3.If engine coolant is running out under the vehicle or steam is com-
ing out from the hood, stop the
engine. Do not open the hood until
the coolant has stopped running or
the steaming has stopped. If there
is no visible loss of engine coolant
and no steam, leave the engine
running and check to be sure the
engine cooling fan is operating. If
the fan is not running, turn the
engine off. 4.Check for coolant leaking from the
radiator, hoses or under the vehi-
cle. (If the air conditioning had
been in use, it is normal for cold
water to be draining from it when
you stop.)
5.If engine coolant is leaking out, stop the engine immediately and
we recommend that you call an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer for
assistance.$$ !%%#$#%% %"!!!$#'#"'"' %'$%'&&&%
While the engine is run-
ning, keep hands,
clothing and tools away
from the moving parts
such as the cool ing fan
and drive belt to pre-
vent serious injury.WARNING
NEVER remove the
radiator cap or the
drain plug while the
engine and radiator are
hot. Hot coolant and
ste am may blow out under pres-
sure, causing serious injury.
Turn the engine off and wait until
the engine cools down. Use
extreme care when removing the
radiator cap. Wrap a thick towel
around it, and turn it c ounterclock-
wise slowly to the first stop. Step
back while the pressure is
released from the cooling sy stem.
When you are sure all the pres-
sure has been released, press
down on the cap, using a thick
towel, and continue turning coun-
terclockwise to remove it.WARNING
