LUGGAGE COMPARTMENTOPENING
When unlocked, the luggage compartment can be
opened from the outside the car by pressing the
electric logo fig. 73.
The tailgate can be opened at any time, if the doors
are unlocked.
The key with remote control should be used to open
the tailgate.
If the tailgate is not closed properly, the warning light
or the symbol
switch on in the instrument
panel (together with the dedicated message on the
display) (see “Warning lights and messages” chapter).
Opening the tailgate will switch the luggage
compartment light on: the light will go off
automatically when closing the tailgate. The light will stay on for about 15 minutes after
turning the key to STOP: if during this time, a door
or the tailgate is opened, the light will switch on
again for 15 minutes.
Opening the tailgate using the key with
remote control
Press button
even with alarm (for versions/
markets where provided) on.
Luggage compartment opening is indicated by the
double flashing of the direction indicators; tailgate
closing is indicated by single flashing (only with
the alarm switched on).
If the tailgate is opened when the alarm is on, the
system will:
❒ switch off the volume sensing protection;
❒ switch off the anti-lift protection;
❒ switch off the tailgate control sensor.
When the tailgate is closed again, all the functions
are restored.
CLOSING
Lower the tailgate, pressing near the lock until you
hear it click into place.

WARNING
If you are travelling in an area with
limited opportunities for vehicle
refuelling and you wish to bring fuel with you in
a petrol can, you must do so in compliance
with current regulations and using an approved
can, appropriately secured to the load securing
attachments. Anyway, by doing so, you increase
the risk of fire in case of an accident with
your vehicle.
CARGO BOX
It consists of a preformed box fig. 83, which is
located in the luggage compartment and can be used
to store objects, making it possible to have a flat
loading surface.
BONNETOPENING
Proceed as follows:
❒ pull lever A fig. 84 in the direction indicated by the
arrow;
❒ pull lever B fig. 85 and lift the bonnet.
❒ lift the bonnet and, at the same time, release the
bonnet stay C fig. 86 from its locking device, then
insert the end of the stay into the housing D.
WARNING
The bonnet may drop suddenly if the
supporting rod is not positioned
correctly.

Use both hands to lift the bonnet . Before
lifting, check that the windscreen wiper
arms are not raised from the windscreen,
that the car is stationary and that the handbrake
is engaged. CLOSING
Proceed as follows:
❒
hold the bonnet up with one hand and with the
other remove the stay C fig. 86 from the housing
D and fit it back in its locking device;
❒ lower the bonnet to approximately 20 centimetres
from the engine compartment and let it drop.
Make sure that the bonnet is completely closed
and not only fastened by the safety catch by trying
to open it. If it is not perfectly closed, do not try
to press the bonnet lid down but open it and
repeat the procedure.
If the bonnet is not closed properly, the warning light
or the symbol
switch on in the instrument
panel (together with the dedicated message on the
display) (see “Warning lights and messages” chapter).
IMPORTANT Always check that the bonnet is closed
correctly to avoid it opening while the car is
travelling.
WARNING
Perform these operations only when the
car is stationary.

IMPORTANT If the car is equipped with (Xenon) gas
discharge headlights, the headlight alignment is
controlled electronically, as a consequence
the
and
buttons are not present.
FOG LIGHT ALIGNMENT
Contact a Fiat Dealership to have the lights checked
and adjusted, if necessary.
ADJUSTING THE HEADLIGHTS WHEN
ABROAD
The dipped beam headlights are aligned for operation
in the country where the vehicle was originally
purchased. When in countries where you drive on
the other side of the road, you need to alter the
beam direction by affixing a specially designed
self-adhesive film in order not to dazzle the vehicles
travelling in the opposite direction.
Such film is provided by Lineaccessori Fiat and is
available at Fiat Dealerships.
ABS SYSTEMABS is an integral part of the braking system which
prevents, whatever the road conditions and force
applied to the brake pedal, the wheels from locking
and consequently sliding under braking, thus ensuring
that the vehicle remains under control even during
emergency braking.
The EBD system (Electronic Braking Force
Distribution) completes the system allowing the
brake force to be distributed between the front and
rear wheels.
IMPORTANT To obtain the maximum efficiency of
the braking system, a bedding-in period of about 500
km is needed: during this period it is better to
avoid sharp, repeated and prolonged braking.
WARNING
The ABS gets the most from the
available grip, but it cannot improve it ;
you should therefore take every care when
driving on slippery surfaces and not take
unnecessary risks.
SYSTEM INTERVENTION
The driver can feel that the ABS system has come
into action because the brake pedal pulsates slightly
and the system gets noisier: it means that the car
speed should be altered to suit the type of road
surface.

WARNING
When the ABS cuts in and you feel the
brake pedal pulsating, do not raise
your foot , but keep it pressed; in doing so you
will stop in the shortest amount of space
possible depending on the current road
conditions.WARNING
If the ABS intervenes, it is a sign that the
grip between tyre and the road surface
has reached the limit : you must slow down to
adapt the speed to the road grip available.
ABS FAILURE INDICATION
This is indicated by thewarning light on the
instrument panel together with the dedicated
message on the multifunction display (for versions/
markets where available) coming on (see “Warning
lights and messages” section).
In the case, the braking system will work as normal
without the extra capacity offered by the ABS
system. Drive carefully to the nearest Fiat Dealership
to have the system checked. EBD FAILURE INDICATION
This is indicated by the warning lights
and
on
the instrument panel together with the dedicated
message on the multifunction display (for
versions/markets where available) coming on (see
“Warning lights and messages” section).
In this case, the rear wheels may suddenly lock and
the vehicle may swerve when braking sharply. Drive
carefully to the nearest Fiat Dealership to have
the system checked.
WARNING
If only the warning light
on the
instrument panel switches on - together
with a message in the multifunction display (for
versions/markets, where provided) - stop the
car immediately and contact the nearest Fiat
Dealership. Fluid leaking from the hydraulic
system will compromise the operation of the
braking system, whether it is of the conventional
type or with ABS.

IMPORTANT When the SPORT button is pressed,
the function is activated about 5 seconds later.
IMPORTANT During acceleration, when the SPORT
function is used the steering may shudder which is
typical of a sports setting.
IMPORTANT During parking manoeuvres requiring a
lot of steering, the steering may become harder;
this is normal and is due to the intervention of the
system to protect the electric steering motor from
overheating; so, no intervention is required. When
the car is used again later on, the power steering will
work normally.Acceleration
Sudden acceleration has a very negative effect on fuel
consumption and emissions: accelerate gradually to
contain consumption.
When the SPORT function is used the consumption
figures will be slightly higher than those stated.
WARNING
Under no circumstances should
aftermarket operations involving
steering system or steering column
modifications (e.g.: installation of anti-theft
device) be carried out that could badly affect
performance and safety. This also causes the
warranty to become null and void and results in
vehicle non-compliance with type-approval
requirements.WARNING
Before starting any servicing operation,
stop the engine and remove the key
from the ignition switch to operate the steering
lock, particularly when the wheels do not touch
the ground. If this is not possible (for example
if the key needs to be turned to MAR-ON or
the engine must be running), remove the main
fuse that protects the electric power steering.

For diesel engines, only use diesel fuel for
motor vehicles in accordance with EN 590
European specifications.The use of other
products or mixtures may damage the engine
beyond repair and consequently invalidate the
warranty, due to the damage caused. If you
accidentally refuel with another type of fuel, do
not start the engine, and drain the tank. If the
engine has been run for even an extremely
limited amount of time, you must not only drain
the fuel tank, but the rest of the supply circuit
as well.
REFUELLING CAPACITY
To fill the tank completely, top-up twice after the
first click of the fuel delivery gun. Further top-ups
could cause faults in the fuel feeding system.
FUEL FILLER CAP
Opening fig. 97
Open flap A pulling it outwards, hold cap B still,
insert the ignition key in the lock and turn it
anticlockwise.
Turn the cap anticlockwise and remove it. The cap
has a device C that attaches it to the flap so it
cannot be lost. When refilling, attach the cap to the
flap, as shown. Closing
Fit the cap (complete with key) and turn it clockwise
until it clicks once or more.
Turn the key clockwise and extract it, then close the
flap.
IMPORTANT The airtight sealing of the tank may
cause a slight vacuum. A suction noise when you
release the cap is therefore entirely normal.
WARNING
Do not bring naked flames or lit
cigarettes near to the fuel tank opening:
fire risk. Keep your face away from the fuel
filler to prevent breathing in harmful vapours.

SEAT BELTSUSING THE SEAT BELTS
The seat belt should be worn keeping the torso
straight and rested against the backrest.
To fasten the seat belts, hold the tongue A fig. 98
and insert it into the buckle B, until it clicks into
place.
If the seat belt jams during removal, let it rewind for
a short stretch, then pull it out again without jerking.
To unfasten the seat belt, press button C. Guide
the seat belt with your hand while it is rewinding, to
prevent it from twisting.Through the retractor, the seat belt automatically
adapts to the body of the occupant wearing it,
allowing freedom of movement.
The reel may lock when the car is parked on a steep
slope: this is perfectly normal. Furthermore, the
reel mechanism locks the belt if it is pulled sharply or
in the event of sudden braking, collisions and
high-speed bends.
The rear seat is fitted with inertia seat belts with
three anchor points and a reel for the side seats and
the middle one.
Wear the rear seat belts as shown in fig. 99.
