NOTE:
•WhenyouoverrideandpushtheSET+button or SET-buttons, the new Set Speed will
be the current speed of the vehicle.
•WhenyouusetheSET-button to decelerate, if the engine’s braking power does not
slow the vehicle sufficiently to reach the set speed, the brake system will automatically
slow the vehicle.
•TheACCsystemappliesthebrakedowntoafullstopwhenfollowingatargetvehicle.
If an ACC host vehicle follows a target vehicle to a standstill, the host vehicle will release
the vehicle brakes two seconds after coming to a full stop.
•TheACCsystemmaintainssetspeedwhendrivinguphillanddownhill.However,a
slight speed change on moderate hills is normal. In addition, downshifting may occur
while climbing uphill or descending downhill. This is normal operation and necessary
to maintain set speed. When driving up hill and down hill, the ACC system will cancel
if the braking temperature exceeds normal range (overheated).
Distance Setting (ACC Only)
The specified following distance for ACC can be set by varying the distance setting
between four bars (longest), three bars (long), two bars (medium) and one bar (short).
Using this distance setting and the vehicle speed, ACC calculates and sets the distance to
the vehicle ahead. This distance setting displays in the DID.
•Toincreasethedistancesetting,pushtheDistanceSetting—Increasebuttonand
release. Each time the button is pushed, the distance setting increases by one bar
(longer).
•Todecreasethedistancesetting,pushtheDistanceSetting—Decreasebuttonand
release. Each time the button is pushed, the distance setting decreases by one bar
(shorter).
ACC Operation At Stop
If the ACC system brings your vehicle to a standstill while following a target vehicle, if the
target vehicle starts moving within two seconds of your vehicle coming to a standstill, your
vehicle will resume motion without the need for any driver action.
If the target vehicle does not start moving within two seconds of your vehicle coming to a
standstill, the driver will either have to push the RES (resume) button, or apply the
accelerator pedal to reengage the ACC to the existing Set Speed.
While the ACC system is holding your vehicle at a standstill, if the driver seatbelt is
unbuckled or the driver door is opened, the parking brake will be activated, and the ACC
system will be cancelled.

•YourvehiclecouldmoveandinjureyouandothersifitisnotinPARK.Makesure
the transmission is in PARK before leaving the vehicle.
•ItisdangeroustoshiftoutofPARKorNEUTRALiftheenginespeedishigherthan
idle speed. If your foot is not firmly pressing the brake pedal, the vehicle could
accelerate quickly forward or in reverse. You could lose control of the vehicle and hit
someone or something. Only shift into gear when the engine is idling normally and
your foot is firmly pressing the brake pedal.
•Unintendedmovementofavehiclecouldinjurethoseinornearthevehicle.Aswith
all vehicles, you should never exit a vehicle while the engine is running. Before
exiting a vehicle, always apply the parking brake, shift the transmission into PARK,
turn the engine OFF, and remove the key fob. When the ignition is in the OFF
position, the transmission is locked in PARK, securing the vehicle against un-
wanted movement.
•Whenleavingthevehicle,alwaysmakesuretheignitionisintheOFFposition,
remove the key fob from the vehicle, and lock the vehicle.
•Neverleavechildrenaloneinavehicle,orwithaccesstoanunlockedvehicle.

AutoStick is a driver-interactive transmission feature providing manual shift control,
giving you more control of the vehicle. AutoStick allows you to maximize engine braking,
eliminate undesirable upshifts and downshifts, and improve overall vehicle performance.
This system can also provide you with more control during passing, city driving, cold
slippery conditions, mountain driving, trailer towing, and many other situations.

•Alwaysengagetheparkingbrakewhenpoweringdownthevehicleifthe“SERV
AWD Warning Light” is illuminated. Not engaging the parking brake may allow the
vehicle to roll which may cause personal injury.
•Youorotherscouldbeinjuredorkilledifyouleavethevehicleunattendedwiththe
transfer case in the NEUTRAL position without first fully engaging the parking
brake. The transfer case NEUTRAL position disengages both the front and rear
driveshafts from the powertrain and will allow the vehicle to roll, even if the
transmission is in PARK. The parking brake should always be applied when the
driver is not in the vehicle.

Recreational Towing — Rear-Wheel Drive Models
DO NOT flat tow this vehicle. Damage to the drivetrain will result.
Recreational towing (for two-wheel drive models) is allowedONLYif the rear wheels areOFF
the ground. This may be accomplished using a tow dolly or vehicle trailer. If using a tow
dolly, follow this procedure:
1. Properly secure the dolly to the tow vehicle, following the dolly manufacturer's
instructions.
2. Drive the rear wheels onto the tow dolly.
3. Firmly apply the parking brake. Shift the transmission into PARK.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
5. Properly secure the rear wheels to the dolly, following the dolly manufacturer’s
instructions.
6. Install a suitable clamping device, designed for towing, to secure the front wheels in
the straight position.

Recreational towing is not allowed.These models do not have a NEUTRAL (N) position in
the transfer case.

This vehicle may be towed on a flatbed or vehicle trailer provided all four wheels are
OFFthe ground.

The transfer case must be shifted into NEUTRAL (N) and the transmission must be in
PA R K f o r r e c r e a t i o n a l t o w i n g . T h e N E U T R A L ( N ) s e l e c t i o n b u t t o n i s a d j a c e n t t o t h e
transfer case selector switch. Shifts into and out of transfer case NEUTRAL (N) can take
place with the selector switch in any mode position.

Shifting Into NEUTRAL (N)
WARNING!

transfer case in the NEUTRAL (N) position without first fully engaging the parking
brake. The transfer case NEUTRAL (N) position disengages both the front and rear
driveshafts from the powertrain and will allow the vehicle to roll, even if the transmis-
sion is in PARK. The parking brake should always be applied when the driver is not in
the vehicle.
Use the following procedure to prepare your vehicle for recreational towing.
CAUTION!
It is necessary to follow these steps to be certain that the transfer case is fully in
NEUTRAL (N) before recreational towing to prevent damage to internal parts.
1. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop, with the engine running.
2. Press and hold the brake pedal.
3. Shift the transmission into NEUTRAL.
4.Using a ballpoint pen or similar object, press and hold the recessed transfer case NEUTRAL
(N) button (located by the selector switch) for four seconds. The light behind the N symbol
will blink, indicating shift in progress. The light will stop blinking (stay on solid) when the
shift to NEUTRAL (N) is complete. A “FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM IN NEUTRAL”
message will appear in the Driver Information Display (DID). Refer to “Driver Information
Display (DID)” in “Understanding Your Instrument Panel” for further information.
