BRAKE/ ((D) Brake system
This warning/indicator light illuminates when
the brake fluid level is too low or when there
is a malfunction in the ABS, or when the park­
ing brake is set.
If the. (USA models) . (Canada models)
symbol flashes in the display with the parking
brake released , there is a malfunction in the
brake system. In addition to the symbol, one
of two messages appears in the display:
Stop vehicle and check brake fluid level
Stabilization program and ABS fault! See

The light . (USA)/ . (Canada) illuminates
when the ignition is turned on. It goes o ut af­
ter the engine has been started and the park­ ing brake is fully released . This indicates that
the brake warn ing light is funct ion ing proper­
ly.
If the brake warning light does not light up
when the engine is cranking or the parking
brake is applied, there may be a malfunction
in the electrical system. In this case, contact
your Audi dealer.
If the ABS fa ils, the ABS warn ing/ indicator
light

When the light comes on, an audib le warn ing
signal is also given .
Parking brak e set
The parking brake warning light./. (Cana­
da models) illuminates whe n the park ing
b rake is set. In addit ion, a warning tone will
sound after you have driven for longer than 3
seconds and faster than 3 mph (5 km/h).
Pa rking brak e set
The . warning/ind icator light illuminates
when the parking brake is set¢.&, .

- Driving with low brake fluid is a safety
hazard! Stop the car an d get professiona l
assistance.
- USA models: If both, the. warning
light and the
Ill warning light come on
at the same time, the rear wheels could
lock up first under hard brak ing . Lock-up
of the rear whee l brakes can cause loss of
vehicle control and an accident. Have
yo ur vehicle repaired immed iately by
you r autho rized Aud i dealer o r a quali­
fied workshop . D rive slowly and avo id
s u dden, hard brake application .
-Canada models: If both, the brake warn ­
ing light . and the ABS warning light
[iJ come on at the same t ime, the rear
wheels co uld lock up first unde r hard
braking . Lock -up of the rear wheel brakes
can cause loss o f vehicle control and an
acc ident. Have your vehicle repaired im­
med iate ly by your authorized Aud i dealer or a qualified workshop
. Drive slowly and
avoid sudden, hard brake application .
- If the brake warning/indicator light does
not go out after a few seconds and the
parking brake is released, or lights up
while you are dr iving, the f lu id leve l in
the brake flu id reservo ir is too low . If you
be lieve that it is safe to do so, proceed
immed iate ly at low speed to the nearest
author ized Audi dealer or qualified work­
shop and have the brake sys tem inspect­
ed .
- Always keep in mind that after severa l
brake applications, you will need greater
pressu re on the brake pedal to stop you r
vehicle . Do not rely on strained brakes to
respond with maximum stopping power
in critical s ituations. You must allow for
increased braking distances. The extra
distance used up by fading brakes could lead to an accident.

The . (USA models) /. (Canada models)
indicato r light monitors the safety systems
e.g. (a irbags, pre tensioners) and ill uminates
f or a few se conds eac h time you swi tch the ig­
nition on.
If the . (USA models)/ . (Canada models)
i ndicato r ligh t does no t go o ut, o r if it illum i­
na tes while yo u are driving, or if it starts to
blink, then there is a mal function somewhe re
in the system. If the light does not i lluminate
when you switch on the ignition , th is also
means there is a malfunct ion.
_& WARNING
If yo u have a ma lfunction in the safety sys­
tems, co ntact your authorized Aud i dea ler
immediately. Otherwise the safety sys­
tems may not work properly in an acc i­
dent.

4 Safety belt warning light
Applies to vehicles: with safety belt warning light
The warning light is a reminder to fasten
safety belts .
The warning light . comes o n for a few sec­
onds after the ignit io n is switched on as a re­
minder to fasten your safety be lt .

D Battery
This warning/indicator light detects o mal­
function in the generator or in the vehicle's
electrical system.
The . warning/in dicator lig ht ill uminates
when you switch on t he ignit ion and must go
out after the engi ne has started.
• Alternator fault: Battery is not being
charged
If the indicator light turns o n an d the me s­
sage a ppears, t he re is a m alfu nct ion in the
generato r or vehicle e lectr ica l system.

~ Engine oil pressure
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol
requires immediate service or repair .
If the . symbo l appears in the disp lay and
flashes, the o il pressure is too low . In add ition
to the symbol, the followi ng message also ap ­
pears in the display :
Switch off engine! Oil pressure is too low
.. Pull off t he roa d and stop the ve hicle .
.. Shut the eng ine down.

- The engine oil pressure symbol. is
not an indicator for a low engine oil lev­
el. Do not rely on it. Instead, check the oil level in your engine at regular inter­
vals, preferably each time you refuel, and always before going on a long trip .
- The yellow oil level warn ing indication
Ill requires oil refill or workshop serv­
ice without delay. Do not wait until the
red oil pressure warning symbol.

-Saved lap times cannot be individually
deleted from the total results.
- The saved lap timer values will not be
lost after turning the ignition off .
On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Ill in
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light illuminates when
the ignition is switched on and goes o ut after
the engine starts and the idle has stabilized.
This indicates that the MIL is working proper­
ly.
If the light does not go out after the engine
is started, or illuminates whi le you are driv­
ing, a ma lfunction may exist in the engine sys­
tem. If the light illuminates, the catalytic con­
verter could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the condition corrected.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer .
If the light illuminates, the electronic speed limiter may also be malfunctioning. For more

An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board D iagnostics monitors the compo­
nents of your emission control system . Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been ass igned a code. In case of a mal­
funct ion, the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control
module memory.
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a
leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery sys­
tem .
If the light illuminates after a refuelling,
stop the vehicle and make sure the fuel filler
cap is properly closed¢
page 162 .
In order to make a n accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can only be displayed using spe­
cial diagn ostic equipment (generi c scan tool
f or OBD).
In order to connect the spec ial diagnostic
equipment , push the plug into the Data Link
Connector (DLC). Th e DLC is located to the
right of the hood release
¢fig. 23.
Your authorized Audi dealer or a qualified
service s ta tion can interpret the code and per­
form the necessary repair.
~ARNING
Do not use the diagnostic connector for
personal use . Incorrect usage can cause
malfunctions, which can increase the risk
of a collision!
Electronic speed limiter
Your vehicle may be factory equipped w ith
-
tires that are rated for a maximum speed of .,..

-The operation of the remote control key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmitters in the vicinity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen­
cy range (e.g. a cell phone, radio equip­
ment) .
- In order to make sure the locking func­
tion is working, you should always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly locked .
- Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherwise you may unin­
tentionally lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the engine or open a
door. In case this happens anyhow, push
the unlock button
CD .
- Use the panic function only if you are in
an emergency situation.
Resetting the remote control
The remote control must be reset if the vehi­
cle does not unlock .
.,,. Press the unlock button CD on the remote
control.
.,,. Manually unlock the driver's door lock with
the mechanical key within 30 seconds.
.,,. Press either the lock-1'.D or the unlock
CD but­
ton to complete th e reset sequence.
Operating locks with the key
To lock and unlock the vehicle from the out­
side , turn the key in the lock of the driver's
door .

Locking and unlocking the vehicle from
inside
The vehicle can be locked or unlocked from
the inside using the power locking switch .

If you lock the vehicle using the power locking
switch , please note the following:
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside (increased security, for ex ­
ample when you are stopped at a red light).
- You can unlock and open the doors from the
inside by pulling on the door handle .
-If the driver's door is opened (after you have
locked the vehicle from the inside using the
power locking switch), the door will remain
unlocked to prevent you from locking your­
self out of your vehicle. After you close the
door, you have to lock the driver 's door
again.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat-
ed, the doors automatically unlock. ..,.

When will the anti theft ala rm system be
triggered?
When the vehicle is locked , the alarm system
monitors and protects the following parts of
the vehicle:
- engine compartment
- luggage compartment
- doo rs
- ignition
When the system is activated, the alarm will
be triggered if one of the doors, the engine
hood or the rear lid are opened, or if the ign i­
tion is turned on.
The anti-theft alarm system will also go off
when the battery is disconnected.
You can a lso trigger the alarm by pressing the
PANIC button on your remote-control key.
This will alert other people in case of emer­
gency. Press the
PANIC button again to turn
off the alarm .
How is the anti-theft alarm switched off
when triggered?
The alarm system is switched off when you
unlock the vehicle using the remote-control key or when the ignition is sw itched on . The
a larm will also switch itse lf off when it comes
to the end of its cycle.
Emergency flasher
The emergency flasher will blink briefly when
the doors, engine hood and rear lid are prop­
erly closed.
If the emergency flashers do not blink, check
the doors, engine hood and rear lid to make
sure they are properly closed. If you close a
door, the hood or the rear lid with the ant i­
theft alarm switched on, the emergency flash­
ers will blink only after you have closed the
door or lid.
(1) Tips
For the anti-theft alarm system to func­
tion properly, make sure all vehicle doors
and windows are closed before leaving the
vehicle.

- Do not leave children unattended in the
vehicle, especially with access to vehicle
keys . Unsupervised use of the keys can
result in start ing of the engine and use

injury.
