Power locking system
General description
The power l ocking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the luggage compar tment lid si­
multaneously.
You ca n lock and un lock the vehicle cent rally.
You have the following choices:
- Remote maste r key
¢ page 35,
-Door handles with convenience key *
<=>page 35,
-Lock cylinder at the dr iver 's door
¢ page 36, or
- Power locking switc h inside ¢
page 36.
Selective unlocking
When you loc k the vehicle, the powe r locking
system wi ll lock the doors and the l uggage
compa rtment lid. When unlocking, you can
set in the MMI whet her only the driver 's door
or the entire vehicle s houl d be unlocked
¢ page 34.
Automatic locking
The automatic loc kin g feat ure locks all t he ve ­
h icle doors and the luggage compartment lid
when you drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h) .
The car is un locke d again , when the opening
f u nction in the power locking system sw itch
or at one of the door leve rs is actuated. The
Auto Lock function can be turned on and off in

Anti-theft alarm warning system
If the an ti-t heft ala rm warning sys tem de­
tects a b reak -in in to the vehicle , acous tic and
vis ual war ning signals a re triggere d.
T he anti-theft wa rning sys tem is a ctiv ated au­
t omat ic all y when you lock t he ve hicl e. It is de­
activated when unlocking using the remote key, with the mecha nica l key, an d when yo u
switc h the ignition on.
T he al arm also turns off w hen t he al arm cy cle
has expired .
Turn signals
When you un lock the veh icle, the turn signals
flash twice. When you lock the veh icle once,
the turn sig nals flash once.
If th ey do no t
f lash, one o f th e doors, the luggage com part­
ment lid or the hood is no t locked .
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the fo llow ing cases there safeg ua rds to
preve nt yo u locki ng you r remo te mas ter key in

- The vehicle does not lock w ith the cent ral
loc king switch <=>
page 36 if the drive r's
door is open.
- On veh ides with convenience key*, if the
most recently used master key is in the lug­
gage com pa rtment, the l uggage compa rt­
ment lid is a utomat ic al ly unlocked again af­
t er it is closed .

In this way you avoid locking yo urse lf o ut acci ­
dentally .
Power side door closer*
The veh icle doo rs a re equipped w it h a powe r
s ide door closer . W hen clo sing a doo r, you on­
l y h ave to le t it fall light ly in to the la tc h . The
doo r will then automatically close by itself

ton again to deactivate the panic function.
If the vehicle is unlocked and no door, the lug­
gage compartment lid or the hood is opened
within 60 seconds, the vehicle locks itself
again automatically. This feature prevents the
vehicle from be ing acc identally left unlocked
over a long period of t ime.
It depends on the settings in the MMI wheth­
er the entire veh icle is unlocked or only cer­
tain doors

- In order to make sure the locking func­
tion is working, you s hou ld always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly locked.

off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the engine or open a door . In case this happens anyhow, push

selector lever is in the P position .
- Use the panic function only if you are in
an eme rgency situation .

Applies to vehicles: wit h convenience key
The doors and the luggage compartment lid
can be unlocked and locked without operat­
ing the master key.

Do not reach inside the door handle .
T he vehicle can be locked and un locked at any
doo r. The master key must be within a range
of about 1.5 m from the appropriate door or
the luggage compartment lid . It makes no dif­
ference whether the master key is in your jack-
et pocket or in your brief case . ..,.

- Changed settings are activated when the parking system is switched on aga in.

Error messages

There is an error in the system if the LED in
the
P •1! b utton is bli nki ng and you hear a con­
tinuous alarm for a few seconds afte r switch­
ing on the parking system or when the park -ing system
is already activa ted . If the error is
not co rrected before you switc h off the igni­
t ion, the LED in the
P, g! button wi ll blink the
next t ime yo u sw itch on t he parking system by
shifting into reverse.
If a sensor is fa ulty, the !:l4 symbol will appear
i n front of/behind the vehicle in the Infota in­
ment display . If a rear sensor is faulty, only
obstacles t hat are in the front detection area
are shown . If a front senso r is fau lty, o nly ob ­
stacles that are in the rear area are show n.
Peripheral camera s*
There is also a system error if:
- t he
°C8l" symbol appears in the display and
t he corresponding display area is shown in
b lue. The camera is not working in this area.
- all segments aro und the vehi cles are red or
if no segments are displayed.

For vehicles us ing the trailer socket, the park­
ing system rear sensors do not tu rn on wh en
yo u shift i nto reverse gea r or whe n you press
the
P' #! bu tton. This res ults in the following re­
strictions:
T he re is no distance warn ing fo r th e rea r. T he
fron t sensors remain ac tivated. The visua l dis­
play sw itches to the trailer towing mode. The
r ear view camera image will no t show the or i­
entatio n lines and the blue surfaces.

- the temperature of the engine coolant rises
due to th e heat bui ld-up from the engine in
the engine compartment, or
- the engine compartment heats up because
the vehicle is parked in intense sunlight.
.&_ WARNING
- To reduce the r isk of personal injury nev­
er touch the radiator fan.
- The auxiliary electr ic fan is temperature
controlled and can switch on sudden ly
even when the engine is not runn ing.
- The auxiliary radiator fan switches on au­ tomat ically when the engine coolant
reaches a certain temperature and will
continue to run until the coolant temper ­
at ure drops.

The brake fluid level can be checked with a
quick glance.

Checkin g and fillin g 239
The fluid level may d rop slightly afte r some
time due to the automatic adjustment of the
brake pads . T his is not cause for alarm .
If the brake flu id leve l falls considerably be­
low the "MIN" mark, the brake warning/indi­
cator light . (U.S. models) . (Canadian
models) w ill come on
~ page 14 . Do not con­
tin ue to operate the vehicle . The complete
brake sys tem should be thoroughly checked
by an authorized Audi dea ler or other quali ­
fied facility and the cause corrected.
If the
brake f lu id leve l is too low, the brake warning/
indica tor ligh t will illumi nate. Conta ct an au­
thorized Aud i de aler
immediately .
Changing brake fluid
Have the brake fluid changed by an experi­
en ced technician.
B rake fluid absorbs moisture from the air . If
the water content in the brake fluid is too
high, co rrosion in the brake system may resu lt
after a pe riod of time. The boiling point of the
brake f lu id will also dec rease conside rably and
decrease brak ing performance.
T herefo re , the bra ke fluid must be changed
every tw o year s. Always use new br ake f lu id
which con forms to Federal Mo tor Veh icle
Standard " FMVSS 116 DOT 4".
T he bra ke fluid reservo ir can be d iff icu lt to
reach, the refore, we recommend that you
have the bra ke fluid changed by your author­
ized
Audi dealer. Your dealer has the cor rect
tools, the right brake fluid and the know -how
to do this for you.
A WARNING
---- Brake flu id is poisonous. It must be stor­
ed only in the closed or iginal container
out of the reach of children!
- Brake failure can resu lt from old or inap­
prop riate brake f lu id. Observe these pre­
cautions:

Working on the battery

ment under the floor. Before you check any­
thing in the luggage compartment,

A WARNING
Whenever working on the battery or on
the electrical system, there is the r isk of
injury, acc ident and even fire. Read and

- Always wear eye p rotection . Do not let
battery acid or any lead particles get on
your sk in or cloth ing . Sh ield your eyes .
E xplosive gases can cause blindness or
other injury .
- Battery acid contains sulfuric acid . Sulfu­
ric acid can cause blindness and severe
burns .

Do not tilt the battery because acid
could leak out of the ventilation open­

- If you get battery acid in your eyes or
on your skin, immediately rinse with
cold water for several minutes and get
med ical attent ion .
- If you should ingest any battery acid,
seek medical attention immediately .
- Do not expose the battery to an open
f lame, e lectr ic sparks or an open light.
- Do not smoke.
- Do not interchange the positive and neg-
ative cables.
- When working on the battery, be su re
not to short-circuit the termina ls with
too ls or other metal objects. This would
cause the battery to heat up very quickly,
which could lead to damage or explosion and personal injury .
- When a battery is charged, it produces
hydrogen gas which is explos ive and
could cause personal in ju ry .
- Always keep the battery well out of the reach of children .
- Before work is done on the electrical sys­
tem, disconnect the negat ive ground ca­
ble.
- Before performing any work on the e lec ­
trical system, switch off the eng ine and
ignit ion as well as any electrical equip­
ment. The negative cable on the battery
m ust be disconnected. If yo u are just go­
ing to replace a light bulb, then it is
enough to switch off the lights .
- Before disconnec ting the battery, switch
off the anti -theft alarm system! Other ­
wise you wi ll set off the alarm.
- When disconnecting the battery, f irst
disconnect the negative cab le and then
the positive cab le .
- Before reconnecting the battery, ma ke
sure all e lectrica l consumers are switch-
ed off . Reconnect the pos it ive cable first
and then the negative cable . Never inter­
change the cables - this could start a fire!
