Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock and un lock the vehicle centrally.
You have the following choices:
- Remote master key¢
page 34,
-Door handles with convenience key*
¢page 35 ,
-Lock cylinder at the driver's door
¢ page 36, or
- Power locking switch inside¢
page 36.
Selective unlocking
When you lock the vehicle, the power locking
system w ill lock the doors and the rear lid.
When unlocking, you can set in the M MI
whether only the driver 's doo r or the entire
vehicle should be unlocked
¢ page 34.
Automatic locking
The automat ic locking feature locks all the ve­
hicle doors and the rear lid when you drive
faster than 9 mph ( 1S km/h).
T he car is unlocked again, when the opening
function in the power lock ing system sw itch
or at one of the door levers is actuated . Th e
Auto Lock function can be turned on and off in
the MMI
¢page 34.
Anti-theft alarm warning system
If the anti-theft alarm warning system de­
tects a break- in into the vehicle, acoustic and
visua l warning signals are triggered.
The anti-theft warning system is activated au­
tomatically when you lock the vehicle . It is de ­
activated when u nlocking using the remote
key, with the mechanical key, and when you
switch the ignition o n.

The alarm also turns off when the a larm cycle
has expired.
Turn signals
When you unlock the veh icle, the turn s ignals
flash twice. When you lock the veh icle the
tu rn s ignals flash once. If they do not flash,
one of the doors, the rear lid or the hood is
not locked.
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the follow ing cases there safeguards to
prevent yo u lock ing your remote master key in
the vehicle:
- The vehicle does not lock w ith the central
locking switch¢
page 36 if the driver's
door is open.
- On veh icles with convenience key*, if the
most recently used maste r key is in the lug­
gage compartment, the rear lid is a utomat i­
cally un locked again after it is closed.

and the rear lid are closed . In this way you
avoid locking yoursel f out accidentally .
Power side door closer*
The vehicle doors are equipped w ith a power
s ide door closer . When closing a door, you on­
ly have to let it fall light ly into the latch. The
door will then automatically close by itself

A WARNING
-When you lock your vehicle from outside,
nobody -especia lly children -shou ld re­
main inside the vehicle. Remember,
when you lock the vehicle from the out­ side the windows cannot be opened from
the inside.
- When you leave the veh icle, always take
the ignition key w ith you . Th is w ill pre­
vent passengers (children, for example)
from accidentally being locked in the ve­
hicle should they accidentally press the
power locking sw itch in the doors. .,.

If the vehicle is unlocked and no door, the rear
lid or the hood is opened within 60 seconds,
the vehicle locks itself agai n automatically .

accidenta lly left unlocked over a long period

- In o rder to make sure the locking func­
tion is working, you s hou ld always keep
you r eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
proper ly locked.

- Do not use t he remo te control if you are
i nside the car, otherwise you may unin­
tentiona lly lock the ve hicle, and then yo u
would set
off the anti-theft alarm w hen
you try to start the engine or open a
door. In case this happens anyhow, push
the unlock button

- The vehicle can only be locked when the
se lector lever is in the P posit ion.
- Use the panic function only i f you are in
an emergency situation.

Th e doors and th e rear lid can be unlocked
and locked without operating the master key.

Unlocking vehicle
~ Take ho ld of the door handle. The door is un -
locked automatically .
~ Pull the handle to open the door.
Locking vehicle
~ Select the P se lec to r lever posit ion. Othe r­

Do not reach inside the door handle.
T he vehicle can be locked and un locked at any
door . The master key must be within a range
of about 1.5 m from the appropriate door or
the rear lid. It makes no difference whether
the master key is in your jacket pocket or in
your brief case.
It is not possib le to re-open the door for a
brief period directly after closing it. This al­
lows you to ensure that the doors are proper ly
locked.

Error messages
Applies to vehicles: with parking system plus/rear view
camera/per ipheral cameras
There is an e rror in the system if the LED in
the
p, qA button is blinking and you hear a con­
tinuous alarm for a few seconds afte r switch­
ing on the parking system or when the park ­
ing system is already activated. If the error is
not corrected before you switch off the igni­
tion, the LED in the
Pw.6. button will blink the
next time you switch on the parking system by
shifting into reverse.
Parking system plus
If a sensor is faulty, the~ symbol will appear
in front of/behind the vehicle in the Infotain­
ment display. If a rear sensor is fau lty, only
obstacles that are in areas @ and @ are
shown
c> page 117, fig . 124. If a front sensor
i s faulty, only obstacles that are in areas ©
and @are shown .
Peripheral cameras*
There is also a system error if:
- the
'(:8:)• • symbol appears in the display and
the corresponding display area is shown in
blue. The camera is not working in this area.
- all segments around the vehicles are red or
if no segments are displayed.
Drive to your authorized Aud i dea ler o r au­
thorized repair fac ility immediately to have
the ma lfunction corrected.
Trailer hitch
Appl ies to vehicles: with parking system plus/rear view
camera/per ipheral cameras and trailer hitch
For vehicles using the tra iler socket, the park­
ing system rear senso rs do not turn on when
you shift into reverse gear or when yo u press
the P
01A button. This results in the following re­
strictions:
Parking system plus*
There is no distance wa rning for the rear. The
front sensors rema in activated. The visual d is­
play switches to the traile r tow ing mode.

There is no distance warning for the rear. The
front sensors remain activated. The visual dis­
play switches to the trailer towing mode. The
rear view camera image will not show the ori­
entation lines and the blue surfaces .

Trailer hitches that are not installed at the
factory may cause the park ing system to
malfunction or they may restr ict its func­
tion.

Before you check anything in the engine com­
partment,

The brake flu id level must be be­
tween the "MIN" and "MAX" markings.
The location of the brake flu id reservoir can be
seen in the engine compartment illust rat ion
¢ page 227.
The fluid level may drop
slightly after some
time due to the automatic adjustment of the
brake pads. This is not cause for alarm.
If the brake fluid level falls
considerably be­
low the "MIN" mark, the brake warning/indi­
cator light . (U.S. models)/ . (Canadian
models) will come on¢
page 15. Do not con­
tinue to operate the vehicle. The comp lete
brake system shou ld be thoroughly checked
by an authorized A udi dealer or other quali­
fied facility and the cause corrected.
If the
brake fluid level is too low, the brake warning/
indicator light will illuminate. Contact an au­
thorized Audi dealer
immediately .
Changing brake fluid
Have the brake fluid changed by an experi­
enced technician .
Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air. If
the water content in the brake fluid is too high, corrosion in the brake system may result
after a period of time . The boiling point of the
brake flu id will also decrease conside rably and
decrease braking pe rformance.
Therefore, the brake fluid must be changed
every two years . Always use new brake flu id
which conforms to Federal Motor Vehicle
Standard "FMVSS 116 DOT 4".
The brake fluid reservoir can be difficult to reach, therefore, we recommend that you
have the brake fluid changed by your author­
ized
Audi dealer. Your dealer has the correct
tools, the right brake fluid and the know-how
to do this for you.
A WARNING
- Brake fluid is poisonous . It must be stor­
ed only in the closed original container
out of the reach of children!
- Brake failure can resu lt from o ld or inap­
propriate brake fluid. Observe these pre­
cautions:
- Use only brake fluid that meets SA E
specification
J 1703 and conforms to
Federal Motor Vehicle Standard 116.
Always check with your authorized Audi
dealer to make sure you are using the
correct brake fluid. The correct type of
brake f luid is also indicated on the
brake fluid reservoir.
- The brake fluid must be new. Heavy use
of the brakes can cause a vapor lock if
the brake fluid is left in the system too
long. This can seriously affect the effi­
c ie ncy of the brakes as well as your
safety. This could resu lt in an accident.

A WARNING
Whenever working on the battery or on
the electrical system, there is the r isk of
injury, acc ident and even fire. Read and
heed the following WARNINGS:
- Always wear eye protection. Do not let
battery acid or any lead part icles get on
your sk in or cloth ing . Sh ield your eyes .
Explosive gases can cause blindness or
other injury.
- Battery acid contai ns sulfur ic acid. Sulfu­
ric acid can cause blindness and severe
burns.
- Always wear gloves and eye protection.
Do not tilt the battery because ac id
could leak out of the vent ilation open­
ings.
- If you get battery acid in your eyes or
on your sk in, immediately rinse with
cold water for severa l m inutes and get
medical attention .
- If you should ingest any battery acid,
seek medical attention immediately .
- Do not expose the battery to an open
flame, electric sparks or an open light.
- Do not smoke.
- Do not interchange the positive and neg-
ative cab les.
- When working on the battery, be sure
not to short-circuit the terminals with
tools or other metal objects. This would
cause the battery to heat up very quickly,
wh ich could lead to damage or explosion
and personal injury. -
When a battery is charged, it produces
hydrogen gas which is explosive and
could cause personal injury.
- Always keep the battery well out of the
reach of children.
- Before work is done on the electrical sys­
tem, disconnect the negat ive ground ca­
ble.
- Before performing any work on the e lec­
trica l system, switch off the engine and
ignit ion as well as any electrical equip­
ment. The negative cable on the battery
must be disconnected .
If you are just go­
ing to replace a light bulb, then it is
enough to swi tc h off the lights.
- Before disconnecting the battery, switch
off the anti-theft alarm system! Other­
wise you wi ll set off the alarm.
- When disconnecting the battery, f irst
d isconnect the negat ive cab le and then
the posit ive c ab le.
- Before reconnecting the batte ry, ma ke
sure all e lectr ica l consumers are sw itch­
ed off. Re connect the pos it ive cable first
and then the negative cable. Never inter ­
change the cables - this could start a fire!
- Never charge a frozen or a thawed-out
battery. It could exp lode! If a battery has
frozen, then it must be replaced . A dis­
charged battery can freeze over at 32
°F
(0 oc).
- Make sure the vent hose is always attach­
ed to the opening on the s ide of the bat­
tery.
- Never use batteries which are damaged.
There is the danger of an explosion! Al­
ways rep lace a damaged battery.
A WARNING
Ca lifornia Proposition 65 Warning:
- Battery posts, terminals and related ac­
cessories conta in lead and lead com­
pounds, chemicals known to the State of
California to cause cancer and reproduc­
tive problems . Wash hands after han-
dling.
