You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle

The emergency key is not intended for con­
stant use.
It should on ly be used in an emer­
gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not car ry
it on your key ring .
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized A udi
dealer immediately to have the

b led. Be s ure to bring all your keys with you.
Personal comfort settings
If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recom ­
mended that each person always uses "t heir
own" master key . When the ignition is switch­
ed off or when the vehicle is locked, persona l
conven ience settings for the follow ing sys­
tems are stored and ass igned to the remote
maste r key.

The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or w hen you switch t he ignition on.

pe rsons could endanger yo u or resul t in
theft or d amage t he vehi cle.

.. The check light comes on briefly once when
a button is pressed , and during an "inquiry"
by the convenience key system .
> If the check light does not come on, the bat­
tery is dead and has to be rep laced . In addi­

key

holder and at the same time pull the battery
holder out of the master key in the direction
of the arrow .
.. Install the new battery CR 2032 with the
"+" sign facing down.
• Push the battery holder carefully into the
maste r key .
• Insta ll the mechan ica l key.

D ispose of dead batteries properly so as
not to poll ute the environment.

The replacement battery must be the
same specification as the original.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthor­
ized use of your vehicle .
A computer chip ins ide your key automatically
deactivates the electron ic immobilizer when
the key is inside the vehicle . When you remove
the key from the vehicle, the electron ic immo­
bilizer is automatically ac tivated once aga in .

A lways take the key with you when you
l eave the vehicle . T he key can disarm the
e lectronic engine immobilize r and permi t
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle sys­
tems such as power window or power sun­
roof leadi ng to serious personal injury.

- The vehicle cannot be started if an una u­
thorized key is used . The vehicle may not
start if another radio device s uch as a key "'

If the vehicle is unlocked and no door, the rear
lid or the hood is opened within 60 seconds ,
the vehicle locks itself aga in automatically.

tion is working, you shou ld always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly locked .

you try to s tart the engi ne or open a

Locking and unlocking with convenience
key
Applies to vehicles: with conven ience key
The doors and the rear lid can be unlocked
and locked without operating the master key.

Do not reach inside the door handle.
T he veh icle can be locke d an d unl ocke d at any
doo r. The master key mus t be within a range
of about 1.5 m from the appropriate door or
the rear lid. It makes no difference whether
the master key is in your jacket pocket or in
your brief case .
It is not possib le to re -ope n the doo r for a
brief period directly after closi ng it. This a l­
l ows you to ensure that the doors are properly
locked.

If your vehicle has been sta nding for an ex­
tended period, please note the following:
- The p rox imity sensors a re deactivate d af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second t ime to
open the vehicle.
- To prevent the battery from being d is­
charged and to preserve your vehicle 's
ability to start for as long as possib le,
the energy management sys tem grad u­
ally switc hes off unnecessary conven­
ie nce func tions. It is possib le th at you
w ill not be ab le to unlo ck you r ve hicle us-
ing these convenience func tions.

sounds if you open the dr iver 's door when the
i gnit ion is switched on .
Press brake pedal to start engine
This message appears if you press the
I START ENGINE STOP! button to start the en­
gine and do not depress the brake peda l. The
engine can on ly be started if the brake pedal
is depressed.
Ill Is key in the vehicle?
If the indicator light turns on and the mes­
sage appears, the remote control key was re­
moved from the vehicle while the engine was
running . If the ignition key is not in the vehi­
cle you will not be ab le to switch on the igni­
tion or restart the engine after it has been
switched off. You w ill also not be able to lock
the vehicle from the outside .
Shift to P, otherwise vehicle can roll away.
Doors do not lock if lever is not in P.
This message appears for sa fe ty reasons
a long with an audib le warning tone if the P
selector lever position is not engaged when
stopping the engine with the
I STAR T ENGIN E ST OP ! button . Select the P se­
lector lever position . Otherwise the vehicle
could roll and it can not be locked .

Turn off ignition before leaving car. Battery
is discharging
T h is message appears if the driver's door is
opened while the ignition is switched on. Al­
ways switch off the ignit ion if you are leav ing
the vehicle . See also ¢

Shift to P and turn off ignition before leav­
ing car, otherwise vehicle can roll away
This message appears if the driver's door is
opened wh ile the ignition is switched on and
the selec tor lever is not in the P position. Shift
the selec tor lever into the P position and
swi tch off the ignition when you exit the vehi­
cle. Otherwise the vehicle could roll . See also
¢ page 80.
Starting the engine if there is a
malfunction
It may not be possible to start the engine un­
der cer tain circums tances, for example if the
ba ttery in the vehicle key is drained, if in ter­
ference hos affected the key or if there is a
system malfunction .

- Always remember that the radar sensor
for the braking guard works only within
defined detection and range limits that
may prevent the proper detection of oth ­
er vehicles .
- The radar sensor's function and range
can be reduced by rain, snow and heavy
spray . Moving vehicles up ahead may not
be promptly detected or may not be de­
tected at al l.
- Reflective surfaces in cl ud ing crash barr i­
ers or tunnel ent rances may impair the
function of the radar sensor.

- You can ca ncel the braking w ith increas­
i ng force that is initiated by the system
by b raking yo urself, by accelerating no­
ticeab ly or by swerving.

the case, the system w ill not provide warnings
about a poss ible collision.

pressure was applied due to an acu te warning.

ACC and Audi braking guard: not a vailable
The system cannot detect mov ing vehicles up
ahead correctly and is switched off . The sen­
sors have been displ aced or are not working
proper ly. The Audi pre sense functions may a l­
so be affected . Drive to your authorized Aud i
dealer or author ized Audi serv ice facility im ­
med iate ly to have the malfunction cor rected .
