The leavin g home function i lluminates the area
around the vehicle when un locking it .
A WARNING
-Never use daytime running lights to see
where you are going. They are not bright enough and w ill not let you see far enough
ahead for safety, especially at dusk or when it is dark . Be aware of changes in outside
light cond itions when you are dr iv ing and re·
spond by switching on your low beams.
- Automatic head· and taillight control is only
intended to assist the d river. This feature
does not relieve the driver of his responsibi l­
ity to check t he headlights a nd to turn t hem
on manually according to the cur rent lig ht
and visibility conditions. For example, fog
and rain cannot be detected by the light
sensors. Consequent ly, always switch the
headlights on under these weather cond i·
tions and when dr iv ing in the da rk.
- Crashes can happen when yo u cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists.
- Always turn on the headlights so that you
can see ahead and so that others can see
your car from the back.
- Please observe lega l regulations when using
the light ing systems described .
@ Tips
-Always observe the specific local regulations
for your area when to use your lights.
- Turn on low beams as evening app roaches
or in conditions of poor visib ility.
- Do not attach stickers to the windshie ld in
front of the sensors as this can disab le the
automat ic head- and taill ight control and
the automatic glare-dimming of the rear·
v iew mirror(s) *.
- If you remove the ignit ion from the ign it ion
lock while the headlights are still on, a buz­
zer w ill sound as long as the dr iver's door is
open to remind you to t urn off the lights .
- In the AUTO mode, the low beams are
turned off when the ignition is t urned off.
The remaining lights ar e turned off when
t h e key is taken ou t of the ignition.
Cle ar vi sion
-In cool or damp weather conditions the
head lights may fog
over temporarily on the
inside .
- The c ritical factor is the temperature dif­
ference between the inter io r and the exte·
rior of the hea dlight lens .
- W ith the mai n beams switched on, the
lig ht-em itting area w ill be free of conden­
sation after a short time, however the
e d ges of the glass may still be fogged.
- This physical phenomeno n has no effect
on the life of your veh icle's lighti ng sys ­
tem .
Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever on the left side of the steering column
is used to operate the turn signals and the high
beam as well as the headlight flasher.

Warm and cold
Rear window defogger
The r ear window d efogger clears th e re ar win­
dow of cond ensation .
.,. Press the~ button c:;, page 61, fig . 74 to turn
the rear window defogger on and off.
The rear w indow defogger works only when the
engine is running. The indicator light in the but­
ton illuminates when the rear window defogger
is turned on .
The window between the cockpit and engine
compartment is also cleared with the rear w in­
dow.
The rear window defogger is switched off auto­
mat ica lly after approx. 10 minutes.
@ For the sake of the environment
As soon as the rea r window is clear, yo u
should switch the rear window defogger off .
The reduced power consumpt ion has a benef i­
cial effect on f uel consumption.
Heated seats
A pp lies to veh icles: w ith heated seats
The seat cushion and the seatback of the front
seats can be heated electrically.

set ting selected is shown by LEDs above the but­

Individua ls with reduced sensitivity to pain o r

the seat heating function. To reduce the risk
o f i njury, these ind iv iduals s hould n ot use seat
heating.
@ Note
To avo id damage to the heating elements in
the seats, do not kneel on the seats o r place
heavy loads on a small a rea of the seat.

Automat ic operation ensures constant tempera­
tures in the interior and dehumidifies the air in­
s ide the veh icle. Air temperature, vo lume, and
distribution are controlled automatically to reach
or maintain the desired interio r temperature as
quic kly as possible. Fluc tuat io ns in exterio r tem­
perature and the effects of temperature from the
pos it ion of t he sun are compe nsated for auto­
matically.
Manual air recirculation mode~
The recirculation mode prevents polluted outside
air from entering the vehicle in te rior.
Switching on air recirculation

To store maximum speed
•Turnoff the ignit ion.
• Briefly press the button in the instrument clus ­
ter
9 page 70, fig. 79. The odometer and the
digital clock are now illuminated.
• Press the button for at least 2 seconds. The cur­
rently stored maximum speed appears in the
display
or the crossed out symbol for warning
threshold 2, if no maximum speed was set pre­
viously.
• Press the function selector sw itch in the wiper
lever @r=>
fig. 80 up or down to change the set
val ue. Values run up or down in steps of 6 mph
(10 km/h).
To delete maximum speed
•Turnoff the ignition .
• Briefly press the button in the instrument clus­
ter
9 page 70, fig. 79 . The odometer and the
digital clock are now illum inated.
• Press the button for at least 2 seconds. The cur­
rently stored maximum speed appears in the
display.
• Press the
iRESETI button in the wiper lever @
r:=> fig. 80 until the crossed out speed warning
symbol for warning threshold 2 appears in the
display.
A few seconds after the adjustment is completed,
the illumination for the odometer and the digital
clock w ill go out.

This warning threshold can also be controlled
through the trip computer

On the road
Cruise control
Switching the system on
The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph (30kmlh).

• Pull the lever to position (Dr=> fig . 81 to switch
the system on .
• Drive at the speed you wish to set.
• Press button @to set that speed.
The display may vary depending on the type of
display in your vehicle. The indicator light
(lj;jl)~i~ (US model)/ . (Canadian model) will al­
so light up in the instrument cluster.
A WARNING
--
-Always pay attention to traffic even when
the cruise control is switched on. You are al­
ways responsible for your speed and the dis­
tance between your veh icle and other
veh icles.
- For safety reasons, the cruise control should
not be used in the city, in stop-and -go traf­
fic, on twisting roads and when road condi­
tions are poor (such as ice, fog, gravel,
heavy rain and hydroplaning) -risk of acci­
dent .
- T urn off the cruise control temporarily when
entering turn lanes, highway exit lanes or in
construction zones.
- Please note that inadvertently "resting"
your foot on the accelerator pedal causes
the cruise control not to brake. This is be­
cause the cruise control is overridden by the
driver's acce lerat ion.

-Never use gasoline, stain remover, ben­
zene, paint thinner or other solvents to re­
move.
-Windows
- Remove snow and ice on windows and ex-
terior mirrors with a plastic scraper. To avoid scratches, move the scraper only in
one direction and not back and forth.
- Never remove snow or ice from windows
and mirrors using warm or hot water be­
cause this could cause cracks to form.
- To avoid damage to the rear window de­
fogger, do not apply any stickers on the
heating wires on the inside of the window.
-Decorative parts/trim
- Never use chrome care or cleaning prod-
ucts.
-Paint
-To reduce the risk of scratches, the vehicle
must be free of dirt and dust before pol­
ishing or waxing.
- To prevent paint damage, do not polish or
wax the vehicle in direct sunlight.
- To reduce the risk of paint damage, do not
polish away rust film.
- Remove cosmetics and sunblock immedi­
atedly. Otherwise, the paint could be dam­
aged.
-Trim
- To reduce the risk of damage, do not treat
the trim around the panorama sunroof
with paint polish.
- Decorative decals
-To reduce the risk of damage, do not use
any rough powder or abrasive cleaning
products.
- To reduce the risk of damage, do not pol­
ish decorative parts that have a matte fin­
ish.
- Displays
-To avoid scratches, do not use dry cleaning
methods on displays.
- Controls
- Make sure that no fluids enter the con-
trols, because this could cause damage.
- Safety belts
Vehicle care and cleaning
- Do not remove the safety belts to clean
them.
- Never clean safety belts or their compo­
nents chemically or with corrosive fluids
or solvents and never allow sharp objects
to come into contact with the safety belts .
This could cause damage to the belt web­ bing .
- If there is damage to the webbing, the
connections, the retractors or the buckles,
have them replaced by an authorized Audi
dealer or a qualified workshop.
- Textiles/Vinyl/ Alcantara
- Never treat Vinyl/Alcantara with leather
care products, solvents, floor polish, shoe
polish, stain remover or similar products.
- To avoid damage , have stubborn stains re­
moved by an authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop.
- Never use steam cleaners, brushes, hard
sponges, etc. when cleaning.
- Do not turn on the seat heating* to dry
the seat.
- Objects with sharp edges such as zippers,
rivets on clothing or belts can cause dam­
age to the surface.
- Open hook and loop fasteners, for exam­
ple on clothing, can damage seat covers.
Make sure hook and loop fasteners are
closed.
- Natural leather
- Never treat leather with solvents, floor
polish, shoe polish, stain remover or simi­
lar products .
- Objects with sharp edges such as zippers,
rivets on clothing or belts can cause dam ­
age to the surface .
- Never use steam cleaners, brushes, hard
sponges, etc. when cleaning .
- Do not turn on the seat heating* to dry
the seat.
- To help prevent the leather from fading,
do not leave the vehicle in direct sunlight
for long periods of time. If leaving the ve­
hicle parked for long periods of time, you
should cover the leather to protect it from

Have the battery checked when you take your ve­
hicle in for service. You are well advised to re­
place a battery that is older than 5 years .
Disconnecting the batt ery terminal s
Some vehicle funct ions (power w indow regula ­
tors , fo r example) are lost if the battery termi­
na ls are disconnected. These functions have to be
re learned after the battery terminals are con ­
nected again. To prevent this , the batte ry shou ld
only be disconnected from the vehicle electrical
system when absolutely necessary for repairs.
V ehicl es not dri ven fo r lo ng p eriod s
If you do not drive your vehicle over a period of
several days or weeks , e lectrica l components are
gradually cut back or switched off. This reduces
energy consumption and maintains s tarting ca­
pability over a longer period<=> page 140. Some
of the convenience funct ions may not operate ,
such as the inter ior lights or powe r seat ad just­
ment. The convenience functions will be ava ilable
again when you switch on the ignition and start
the eng ine.
Wint er op erati on
During the winter months, battery capacity tends
to decrease as temperatures drop . This is because
more power is also consumed w hile start ing , and
the head lights, rear w indow defogger, etc., are
used more often.
Avoid unnecessary power consumption, part icu­
l arly in city traffic o r when traveling only short
d ista nces . Let you r a utho rized Aud i dea le r check
the capacity of the vehicle battery before w inter
sets in <=> page 167. A well charged battery will
not on ly prevent starting prob lems when the
w eather is cold, but will also last longer.
R eplacing battery
The new battery mu st ha ve the same capacity,
voltage
(12 vo lts), amperage, construction and
p lug sealing, as the original battery . Specifica ­
tions are listed on the battery housing. Batteries
specia lly deve loped by Audi fulfill the mainte­
nance, output, and safety requ irements .
Check ing and fillin g
When installing the battery, make sure the igni­
tion and all electrica l consumers are switched off
<=> 0 .
We recommend that you use main tenance-free or
cycle -res istant /leak-p roof batteries according to
the standards TL
825 06 (from Apri l 2008) and
VW 7
50 73 (from Apr il 2010).
Replac ing the bat tery shou ld be carried by a
qualified workshop. Please fo llow the ins truc ­
tions on the battery cover .

-All work on the battery req uires techn ica l
knowledge . Please contact an Audi dealer ­
ship or another authorized facility for ques­
tions about the battery - danger of ac id
burns and explosion ha zard!
- The battery must not be opened! Do not try
to change the battery's liquid level, other­
w ise detonating gas will escape from the
battery- exp losion hazard!
- The AGM battery in the luggage compart­ ment cannot leak, because the e lectrolyte
for this battery is absorbed into a special glass mat . This leak-proof battery must not
be replace with a convent ional battery.
- Make sure the ventilation hose on the side
of the battery is connected, otherwise
fumes or battery ac id can leak out.
- Battery holder and terminals always have to
be sec ured correctly .
- Before all work on the battery follow the
warnings be low <=>&. in Working on the bat­
tery on page 166.
@ For the sake of the environment
Because of the prob lem of proper disposal of
a battery, we recommend your autho rized
Audi dealer change the battery for you . Bat­
teries contain sulfur ic acid and lead and must
a lways be d isposed of properly in compliance
with all envi ronmental regula tions . Disposing
of vehicle batteries improperly is very danger­
ous to the environment . Make sure that the
removed battery cannot overba lance, other­
wise sulf uric ac id might escape!
