suitable for 1 to l.S-liter bottles.

An electrical accessory can be connected to
the 12-vol t power outlet.

The 12-volt outlets can be used for electrical
accessories. The power input must not exceed
120 watts.
There may be just one out let at the front of
the center conso le depending on your model.
There are two additional 12-vo lt outlets in the
rear center console.
Before you purchase any accessories, always
read and fo llow the information in
c::> page 328, Additional accessories and parts
replacement.

A WARNING
-Always remove objects fro m the inst ru­
men t pa nel. Any items not stored could
slide around inside the vehicle whi le dr iv­

ing the brakes or when driving around a

-Any articles of cloth ing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv­
er's view. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang
any clothing with hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks.
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects could injure any passen­
gers inside the vehicle.

To open glove compartment

.. Push the glove compartment lid up until the
lock engages.
In the g love compartment lid you will find a
p lace to store a pen and a pad of paper .
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of persona l injury in an
accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed whi le driving.

The cooling box works only when the air-con­
ditioning is in cooling mode.

not impair the driver 's vision .
- T he coat hooks must only be used for
lightwe ight cloth ing. Do not leave any
heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere with the side cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause
personal injury in a crash.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging
clothing on the coat hooks as this can in- terfere with proper deployment of the
side curta
in a irbags in an acc ident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal in­
jury in a sudden stop.
Storage in the door panels
There is a storage compartment in the interi­
or door panel .

A WARNING
Use the storage compa rtme nts in the door
panels only for holding sma ll obje cts,
which do not prot rude from the compart­
ment, so that the effective range of the
side a irbags is not comprom ised.

Synchroniz ing clim ate control
By pressing and holding the regu lator on the
d river's s ide, the temperature setting on the
driver's side can be switched to the passeng ­
e r's side, and vice versa. The new temperature
is shown in the display.
Synchronizing four-zone automatic
comfort air conditi oning*
By pressing and holding the regu lator on the
driver's side, the temperature setting on the
driver's side can be switched to the passeng­
er's side and to the outer rear seats. The new
temperature is shown in the disp lay. By sim
ultaneously pressing and holding the
regulators o n the driver's side and front pas ­
senger's s ide, the temperature setting on the
driver's side can be switched to the front pas­
senger's side . The new temperature is shown
i n the disp lay .

The gr ille on the controls m ust rema in un­
obstr ucted and m ust not be taped over.

With the ign ition t urned off, you can acti­
vate the residua l heat funct ion by pressing
the
ION/O FF I button. The res idual heat
from the coolant can be used to heat the
vehicle interior .
Air Conditioner On/Off~
Switching off the air conditioner saves fuel.
.,. Press the IAIC I button to switch the air con-
ditioner on or off.
When the air conditioner is switched on, the
indicator lamp in the button will illum inate
and the heat ing/venti lation system is control­
led automatically.

duce , or shut down the airflow from that
outlet.

adjusted horizontally and vertically .

The air out lets are actuated either automati ­
cally or manually depend ing on the operating
mode selected.
@ Tips
When climate contro l is working, coo led
air will flow primarily from outlets @and
@ . To assure adequate cooling, o utlets @
and @ should never be completely closed.
Air outlets in the rear

outlet to open or close it.

the outlet, move the tab in the center of the

The automatically controlled air distribution
con be changed manually.
., Press the [a button.
., Rotate the regulator to the desired setting.
You can adjust the air circulation so that air
flows from specific vents.
- In position
:J, all air flows from the vents in
the center console and the outlets to the
door pillars.
- In position
:0, air flows from the outlets in
the door pillars.
- In position~, air flows from the outlets un-
der the front seats.
There are additional combinations available to
adjust air distribution as needed.
To regulate air distribution automatically,
switch to IAUTOI.
Basic settings
General
The basic climate control settings con be ad­
justed in the MMI.

Automatic recirculation mode '
An air quality sensor detects increased con­
centrations of pollutants in the outside air
and automatically switches to recirculation
mode .
We recommend that you always keep auto ­
matic air recirculation ON to prevent polluted
outside air from entering the vehicle interior.
If the
air quality sensor located in the air con­
ditioning system detects polluted outside air,
the sensor decides whether the air pollution
can be reduced by the factory-installed pollu­
tant filter or whether it is necessary to switch
to air recirculation. With heavy concentrations
of pollutants, the air conditioning system is
switched automatically to recirculation mode
and the supply of outside air is blocked. As
soon as the concentration of pollutants in the
outside air drops, fresh air is supplied to the
vehicle interior again.
In the event that the windows fog up during
automatic air recirculation, you must press
the® button immediately .
Under certain operating conditions, automatic
air recirculation is switched off automatically.
With outside temperatures below about SO °F
(+10 °(), automatic air recirculation is limited
to 30 seconds. With outside temperatures be­ low about 30 °F
( - 1 °() and with the air condi ­
tioner switched off, the automatic air recircu­ lation is limited to 15 seconds.
Synchronization
One climate control setting for the driver and
front passenger seats .
With synchronization active, the driver's set­
tings are adopted for the passenger or vice
versa. All the other settings that were made
are transferred to the other seat . This in­
cludes all the climate control settings, except
for the seat heating/ventilation* .
If a different setting is selected at a
"synchronized seat ", synchronization is can­
celled.
