adaptive light*
When switched on, adap tive ligh t ad ap ts to
curves in the road depending on the vehicle
speed and the steering ang le. This provides bet
ter light ing through the curve. The system oper
ates at speeds between approximately 6 mph
(10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Static cornering light* (vehicles with adaptive
li ght) -the corne ring light switches on at speeds
up to approximate ly 25 mph (40 km/h) when a
certain steering wheel angle is reached or when a
turn s ignal is act ivated . T he area to the side of
the ve hicle is illuminated better when turning .
The adaptive light and the cornering light only
funct io n when the switc h is in the AUTO position
(automat ic head lights*) .
A WARNING
- Daytime r unning lights and a utomat ic head
lights* are only intended to as sist the driver .
T h ey do not re lieve the driver of his respon
sibility to c heck t he hea dlights and to tur n
t hem on m anually ac co rding to the cur rent
light and visibili ty conditions. Fo r exam ple,
fog cannot be detected by the light sen
sors*. So a lways sw itch on the headlights

under these weather conditi ons and when
driving in the dark.
- Crashes can happen when y ou cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be

braking or in an acc ident -especially if the
airbag is deployed -these objects could in
jure any passenge rs ins ide the veh icle.
- T o reduce the r isk of persona l injury in an ac
cident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while dr iv ing .
- Read and follow all WARNINGS

on the side airbag system.
- Hang clothes in such a way that they do not
impa ir the d river's vision.
- The coat hooks must only be used for light
weight clot hing . Do not leave any heavy o r
sharp edged objects in the pockets which may in terfere with the side curtain airbag
deployment and can cause personal injury in
a cras h.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging cloth
ing on the coat hooks as this can interfere
with proper deployment of the side c urtain
airbags in an accident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal injury in
a sudden stop.
- Always keep the compartment above the
rearview mirror closed while dr iving to re
duce the r isk of injury in the event of sudden
braking maneuvers or a collision .

If luggage or cargo is to be carr ied on the roof,
you must observe the following:
- Onl y use roof racks approved for your vehicle .
T hese approved roof racks are the bas is for a
comp le te roof rack system . Addi tional attach
ments or carrier systems are needed to trans
port luggage and sports equipment. We recom
mend using roof racks from the Aud i origina l
accessories program.
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it is
only mounted on the designated locations on
the roof

- We recommend that you keep the installation
instructions for your roof rack system together
w ith your Owner 's litera ture in the vehicle.
When should the roof rack be r em oved?
- Before going through an automatic car wash (it
is best to ask the car wash operator for advice).

wind noise and to guard against theft .

-Use of an unapproved roof rack or incorrect
mounting of an approved roof rack can
cause the roof rack or the items attached to

Disconnecting the battery terminals
Some vehicle functions (power window regula
tors , for example) are lost if the battery termi
nals are disconnected. These functions have to be
re learned after th e battery terminals are con
nected again. To prevent this, the batte ry should
only be disconnected from the ve hicle electrical
system when absolutely necessary for repairs.
Vehicles not driven for long periods
If you do not drive your vehicle over a period of
several days or weeks, e lectrica l components are
gradually cut back or switched off. This reduces
energy consumption and maintains starting ca pability over a longer period
c:> page 175 .
Some of the conven ience functions may not oper
ate, such as the interior lights or the power seat
adjustment. The convenience functions will be
available aga in when you turn on the ignition and
start the engine.
Winter operation
During the winter months, battery capacity tends
to decrease as temperatures drop. This is because
more power is also consumed while s tart ing, and
the headlights, rear window defogger, etc ., are
used more often .
Avoid unnecessary power consumption, part icu
larly in city traffic or when traveling only short
d istances . Let your authorized Aud i dealer check
the capacity of the vehicle battery before w inter
sets in ¢
page 202 . A well charged battery will
not only prevent starting problems when the
weather is cold, but will also last longer.
(D Tips
If your vehicle is left standing for severa l
weeks at extremely low temperatures, the ve
hicle battery should be removed and stored
where it will not freeze. This will prevent it
from being damaged and having to be re placed.
