th e afterwipe operation. The afterwipe function
is reactivated the next time the ignition is switch­
ed on.
Clean ing the headlights*. The headlight washer
system* operates only when the headlights are
on.
If you move the lever to pos ition @ , the
headlights are washed in intervals.
A WARNING
- The rain sensor is only intended to assist the
driver . T he driver is still responsible for
manually switching the wipers on according
to the v is ibility conditions .
- The w indshield may not be treated w ith wa­
ter -repelling windsh ield coating agents . Un ­
favorable condit ions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, low sun, can result in increased g lare.
Wiper b lade chatter is also possible.
- Properly functioning w indshield w iper
blades are required for a clear view and safe

-In the case of frost, check whether the
windsh ield wiper b lades are frozen to the
windsh ield. Sw itching on the windsh ield
wipers can damage the wiper blades!
- Prior to using a car wash, the winds hield
wiper system m ust be switched off (lever in
position @). T his helps to prevent uninten­
tiona l switching on and damage to the
windshield wiper system .
@ Tips
-The windshield wipe rs are switched off
when the ignition is turned off. Activate the
windshield wipers after the ignition is
switched back on by moving the windsh ield
wiper lever to any pos it ion.
- Worn or dirty windshie ld w iper blades result
i n streaking. This can affect the rain sensor*
funct ion. Check your windshield wiper
blades regularly .
- The washer fluid nozzles of the windshield
washer system are heated at low tempera­
tures when the ignit ion is on.

- W hen stopping temporarily, (e .g. at a traffic
light) the set speed of the windshield wipers
is automat ica lly reduced by one speed.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the windshie ld w iper blades when they be­
gin to leave streaks . Use a soft cloth and glass
cleaner to clean the windshield w iper blades .

blades once or twice a year. See your author­
ized Aud i dea ler for replacement blades.

-The windshield wiper blades must only be
replaced when in the service position! Oth­
erwise, you r isk damaging the paint on the
hood or the windshield wiper motor.
- You should not move your vehicle or press
the windshie ld w iper lever when the wiper
arms are folded away from the windshield .
The windshield wipers would move back in­
to their original position and could damage
the hood and windshield.
- To he lp prevent damage to the wiper sys­
tem, always loosen blades which are frozen
to the windshie ld before operating wipers .
- To he lp prevent damage to w iper blades, do
not use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, or
other solvents on or near the wiper blades.
- To he lp prevent damage to the wiper arms
or other components, do not attempt to
move the wipers by hand .

-Commercial hot waxes applied by automatic
car washes affect the how easily the glass
surface can be cleaned.
- You can also use the service position, for ex­
ample, if you want to protect the windshield
from icing by using a cover .

not bring any remote controls, electrical devi­
ces or metallic objects near the mirror .

Memory function
Description
Applies to vehicles: with memory function
The memory function allows you to quick ly and
eas ily store and recall personal seating profiles
for the driver. The memo ry function is operated
through the master key and the memory buttons
in the driver's door.
The driver's seating profile is stored and assigned
to the master key each time the veh icle is locked.
When you open the door, the seat profile is auto­
matically recalled. If two people use one vehicle,
it is recommended that each person always uses
"their own" master key.
Up to 2 seat profiles can be stored in the memory
buttons in the driver's door. Once they are stored,
these seat profiles can be selected at any time .
I n addition to the driver's seat settings, you can
also store and access the exterior mirror adjust­ ment settings* using the remote control key or
memory button.
Remote control key
Applies to vehicles: with seat memory
To assign the driver's seat settings to the remote
control key when locking the vehicle, the function
must be activated in the radio or

Switching the memory function on/off
.,. Press the ION/OFF ! button to switch the memo­
ry function on/off. The word
OFF lights up when
the memory function is switched off. Seat pro­
files are neither stored nor recalled .
Storing a seat profile
.,. Press the ISETI button. When the word SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
tings.
• Press a memory button
(ill or [II) briefly. A tone
confirms that the settings were stored.
Accessing a seat profile
.,. If the driver's door is open and the ignition is
switched off, press the memory button .
.,. If the driver's door is closed or the ignition is
switched on, press and hold the memory but­
ton until the seat adjustment is complete.
.8, WARNING
- For safety reasons, the seat setting can only
be recalled when the vehicle is stationary -
otherwise you risk having an accident.
- In an emergency the recall procedure can be
cancelled by pressing the
ION/OFF I switch or
by tapping the memory buttons.

Sw itching the ignition on /off
If you would like to switch the ignition o n wit h­
out starting the engine, fo llow these steps:
• Inse rt the key into the ignition lock.
• Press the key brief ly
wi thout p ress ing the b rake
pedal.
• To sw itch the ignition off , press the key again.
When starting the engine, major e lectr ica l loads
are sw itched off temporar ily.
You ca n only remove the key with the ignition
sw itched off .
If the engine should not start immedia tely , the
starti ng process is automatically stopped after a
short time . Repeat sta rting procedure .
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces - dange r of asp hyxiation.
- Never remove the ignition key from the ign i­
t ion loo k while the vehicle is moving . Other­
wise, the steering lock cou ld sudden ly en­
gage and you would not be able to steer the
vehicle.
- Always ta ke the key with yo u wheneve r you
leave your vehi cle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical eq uipment
s uch as the power windows cou ld be operat­
ed . T his can lead to ser ious injury.
- Never leave ch ildren or persons requiring as­
sistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doors can be locked using the remote trans­
mitter, preventing peop le from escap ing
from the vehicle on their own in the event of an emergency . Depending on the time of
year, people inside the vehicle can be ex­ posed to very high o r very low tempe ra­
t ur es.

Avoid high engine rpm, full throttle and heavy
eng ine loads until the eng ine has reached op­
erati ng temperature - otherwise you risk en­
gine dam age.

Steering lock

Emergency off
If necessary, the e ngine can be switched off with
the se lec to r lever in the R or D/S posi tions. The

I START ENGI NE STOP I button at speeds below
6 mph (10 km/ h) and press the brake peda l.
_& WARNING
-Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steer ing is not guaranteed. You must use
more force to turn or b rake if necessary. Be­
caus e you cannot stee r and brake as you
usually wo uld, this cou ld lead to crashes
a nd se rio us in juries.

Your veh icle is equipped w ith an electromechan i­
cal parking b rake. The par king b rake is designed
to p revent the veh icle from rolling unintentional­
ly and replaces the hand brake.
In addition to the norma l funct ions of a tradit ion­
a l hand bra ke, the e lectromechan ical pa rking
b rake provides var ious convenience and safety
f u nctions.
When start ing f rom rest
- The integral starting assist helps you when
driv ing by automat ically releasing the parking

-When sta rting on inclines , the starting assist
prevents the vehicle from un intent ionally roll­
ing back. The bra kin g for ce of the par kin g b rake

A WARNING

- If the parking brake is applied with the igni ­
tion switched off, the indicator lights in the

- Whe n the vehicle is pa rked, the park ing
brake goes through a self-test cycle at regu­
lar intervals. Any associated noises are nor­

start t he engine, release the parking b rake
or operate elect rical equipment (e.g. power

- When the veh icle is locked, no one -part icu­
larly no t chi ld ren shou ld remain in the ve hi­
cle. Lo cked doors m ake it more d ifficul t for
emergency workers to get into the veh icle -
putting lives at risk.
Starting from rest
The star ting assist function ensures that the
parking brake is released automatically upon
starting .

Cruise control system
Switching on
The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph (30
km/h) .

The speed is kept constant by modifying engine
power or through an active brake intervention.
A WARNING
-Always pay attention to the traffic around
you when the cruise control is in operation.
You are always responsible for your speed and the distance between your vehicle and
other vehicles.
Driving
- For reasons of safety , cruise control should
not be used in the city, in stop-and-go traf­
fic, on twisting roads and when road condi­
tions are poor (such as ice, fog, gravel, heavy ra in and hydroplaning) - risk of acci­
dent .
- Turn off the cruise control temporarily when entering turn lanes , highway exit lanes or in
construction zones.
- Please note that inadvertently "resting" your foot on the accelerator pedal causes
the cruise control not to brake. This is be­
cause the cr uise control is overridden by the
driver's accele rat ion.
- If a brake system malfunction such as over­
heating occurs when the cruise control sys­
tem is switched on, the braking function in
the system may be switched off . The other
cruise control functions remain active as
long as the ind icator

The brake lights illuminate as soon as the
brakes apply automatically.
Changing speed
• To increase/decrease the speed in incremen ts,
tap the lever in the

"'To increase/decrease the speed quickly, hold
the lever in the
010 direct ion until the de­
sired speed is displayed.
You can also press the accelerator pedal down to increase your speed, e.g . if you want to pass
someone . The speed you saved earlier will re­
sume as soon as you let off of the accelerator
pedal.
If, however, you exceed your saved speed by
6 mph (10 km/h) for longer than 5 minutes, the
cruise control will be turned off temporarily . T he
green symbo l in the display turns white. The
saved speed remains the same .
