Valet parking
Applies to vehicles: with fold ing and lockable rear seat­
backs
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage comportment from unauthorized ac­
cess.

You can switch the "valet parking function" on
when someone else is parking your vehicle.
When the function is switched on, the vehicle
can be driven, locked and unlocked us ing the
maste r key, but access to the luggage com­
partment is not permitted .
• Take the mechanical key out of the master
key

• Open the glove compartment c;, page 67.
• Activate

tu re by press ing the
! VALET ! button. The in­

• Close the glove compartment and lock it

You can activate various systems s uch as ga­
rage doors, security systems and home light­
ing from inside your vehicle using the garage
door opener (Homelink). There are three but­
tons for this in the vehicle headliner that can
be in used in place of up to three hand-held
transmitters .
To operate systems using the garage door
opener, the three buttons in the roof headlin­
er must be programmed first.
A WARNING
Make sure no people or objects are in the
i mmediate vicin ity of the equ ipment when
using or p rogramming the garage door
opener. People can be injured and objects
can be damaged if they are ca ught in the
eq uipment .

-For security reasons, we recommend that
you clear the programmed b uttons be­
fore sell ing the vehicle .

Programming the button: Part 1 with the
controls
1. Sw itch the ignition on.
2 . Press and hold both outer buttons in the
roof head liner ~
page 46, fig. 41 until the
LED @turns
off completely (after about
20 seconds) . This procedure clears the
standard codes that were set at the facto­ ry and does
not need to be repeated again
to program the other buttons .
3 . Briefly press the button on the roof head­
liner that you would like to program.
4 . Wait unti l the LED@ beg ins to blink
qu ickl y. Programming mode is active for 5
minutes.
5. Move in front of your vehicle while hold­
ing the original remote control for the
system that would like to program to a
button in the roof headliner.

6. Hold the remote control up to the radiator
grille on your vehicle ¢

7. Press and hold the remote control until
the turn signa ls on your vehicle blink . This
may take up to 30 seconds .
8 . If the emergency flashers blink three
times, the programming was successful.
If the emergency flashers only blink one
time, the 5 minute time limit for the pro­
gramming has ended or the programming
was not s uccessful. Repeat the program­
ming from the third step, or try changing
the distance to the radiator gr ille.

9. If the garage door or other system does
not open using the buttons in the roof
headliner even though the programm ing
was successful, the system may use a roll­
ing code instead of a fixed code.

The other two buttons in the roof headliner
can be programmed according to the instruc­
tions above . Begin with the third step .
Erasing button programming
The programmed buttons cannot be erased
individua lly. They must a ll be erased together .
Reprogram the buttons if necessary.

roof headliner until the L ED @ turns
off
completely (after about 20 seconds).
Reprogramming the buttons

.,.. To reprogram an individual button, press
and hold the b utton until the LED @starts
to flash quickly (after about 10 seconds).
Release the button immediately. Program­
ming mode is active for 5 minutes.

-Programming using the buttons in the
roof headliner is not possible with all In­
fotainment systems . If this is the case,
program the buttons as descr ibed in ver­
sion A

- The requ ired distance between the hand

- Depending on the model of the system,
you may need to release the butt on on
the remote control during programming
and press it again. Hold eac h position
you try for at least 15 seconds before
trying another position. Keep the turn
signals on your vehicle in view when do­
ing this.

@ Tips
- The light sensor* for headlight control is
located in the rear view m irror mount.
You should therefore not apply any st ick­
ers to the windsh ield in this area in order
to prevent malfunctions or failures.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be
adjusted
c> page 50.
- When you remove your key from the igni­
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned
on, a buzzer sounds as long as the driv­
er's door is open .
- In cool or damp weather, the ins ide of
the headlights, turn signals and tail lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clea r shor tly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting.
- In the even t of a light sensor malfunc­
tion, the driver is no tified in the instru­
ment cluster disp lay¢
page 22.
Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher .

Travel mode*
T he headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
v ides stronger illum ination on the s ide of the
road on wh ich you are driving .
If you are driv­
i ng in a count ry that d rives on the opposite
side of the road from your own country, th is
will cau se glare for on coming dr ivers. To pre­
vent glare:
- Trave l mode must be selected in vehicles
with Xenon headlights*.
- In veh icles with halogen headlights, ce rtain
areas of the head light lenses must be cov­
ered w ith wate rproof adhesive covers that
prevent light from passing thro ugh. Fo r

The emergency flashers makes other moto­
rists aware that you or your vehicle are in an
emergency situation .

You can indicate a lane change or a tu rn w hen
the emergency flashers are switched on by us­
ing the turn signal lever. The emergency flash­
ers stop temporarily .
T he emergency flashers also work when the
ign ition is turned off .
T he emergency flashers w ill turn on a utomat i­
ca lly if yo u are in an accident where the airbag
has deployed.

You sho uld turn on the emergency f las hers
when:
- yo u are the last veh icle standing in a t raf ­
fic jam so that any other vehi cles coming
can see you, or whe n
- yo ur vehicle has bro ken down or you are
in an eme rgency s ituation, or when
- yo ur vehicle is be ing towed by a tow
truck or if you are tow ing another vehicle
beh ind you.

The instrument i llumination (for dials and
needles) lights on when the ignition is
switched on and the vehicle lights are
turned off . As the daylight fades, the illu­
mination of the dia ls likewise dims auto­
matically and wi ll go out completely when
the ou tside light is very low. This feature is
meant to rem ind you to sw itch on the
headlights when outside light conditions
become poor .

Passenger exter io r mirro r tilt function*
To help yo u see the curb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mirror t ilts
slightly . The knob m ust be in the
P posit ion
for this to happen .
You ca n adjus t the tilted mirror sur face by
turn ing the knob in the des ired direction .
When you move out of reverse and into anoth­
e r gear, the new mirror posit ion is stored and
assigned to the key you are using.
T he mirror goes back into its origina l posit io n
once yo u drive forward faster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or switch the ignition off .
_& WARNING
Curved mirror sur faces (convex or sphe ri­
c al *) incre ase yo ur field of v iew. Remem­
ber that vehicles or o ther objects will ap­
pear smaller and farther away than w hen
seen in a flat m irror. If you use this mirror
to estimate distances of following veh icles
w hen changing lanes, you co uld estimate
incorrectly and ca use an accide nt.
(D Note
- If the mirro r ho using is moved u ninten­
tiona lly (for example, whi le park ing your
vehicle), then you must first fo ld the mir­
ror electrically. Do not readjust the m ir­
ror ho using manually . You could da mage
the motor wh ich controls the m irror .
- If you wash t he vehicle in an automatic
ca r wash, yo u m ust fold the exte rior m ir­
r ors in to reduce the r is k of damage to

drop lets, the w indshield wiper performs one
afterwipe operation after several seconds
while driv ing . You can switch th is fu nction off
by mov ing the lever to position ® within 10
seconds of the afte rwipe operation . The after­
wipe func tion is reactiva ted the next time the
ignition is switched on.
a llroad: The rear w iper automatically switches
on when the reve rse gear is engaged and the
front w indshield w ipers are on and in opera­
tion .
C lean ing the headlights*. The headlight wash­
e r system* opera tes on ly when the headl ights
a re on. If you move the leve r to pos ition @,
the head lights are washed in intervals.
@ -allroad : Wipe the rear window. The rear
wiper moves about every 4 seconds.
(J) -allroad : Clean the rear window . The num­
ber of wiping operations depends on how long
the lever is held in pos ition

_& WARNING
- T he ra in sensor is only inte nded to assist
the drive r. The driver is still responsible
for man ually switching the wipers on ac­
cording to the v isibility conditions .
- T he windshie ld may not be treated w ith
water-repe lling windshie ld coating
agents . Unfavorable conditions, such as
wetness, darkness, low sun, can res ult in
increased glare. Wiper blade chatter is
also possible .
- Proper ly functioning windshie ld w iper
blades are required for a clear view and safe driving

windshield wiper blades.
@ Note
- In the case of frost, check whethe r the
windshield wiper blades are frozen to
the windshield. Sw itching on the wind­
shield wipers can damage the wiper
blades!
- Pr ior to us ing a car wash, the w indshield
w iper system must be sw itched off ( lever
in posit ion @). Th is he lps to prevent un­
intentional switching on and damage to
the windsh ield wiper system .
@ Tips
-The windshie ld wipers are switched off
when the ignit ion is turned off. Act ivate
the winds hield wipers after the ignition
is switched back on by moving the wind­
shield w iper lever to any position.
- Worn or d irty windshield wiper b lades
result in st reaking. This can affect the
rain sensor* function. Check your wind­
shield w ipe r blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozz les of t he wind­
shield w asher system a re heated at low
temperat ures when the igni tion is on.
- When stopping tempo rarily, (e .g. at a
t raffic light) the set speed o f the wind­
shield wipers is automatically reduced by
one speed.
· Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the windshie ld w iper b lades when they
begin to leave streaks. Use a soft cloth and
glass cle aner to clea n the windshield wiper
blades .

Removing the wiper blade
• Lift the w indshield wiper arm up from the
windshield.
• Press the locking knob

wiper blade . Hold the wiper blade fi rm ly.
• Remove the wiper blade in the direct ion of
the arrow .

• Insta ll the new wiper blade in the reta iner

to place on the wiper arm .
• Place the wiper arm back on the windshield.
• Turn the service position off.
A WARNING
For your safety, you should rep lace the
wiper b lades once or twice a year . See your
authorized Audi dealer for replacement b lades.
(D Note
- The windshield w iper blades must only
be replaced when in the service pos ition!
Otherw ise, you risk damag ing the pa int
on the hood o r the windshie ld w iper mo­
to r.
- Yo u should not move your vehicle o r
press the windsh ield wiper lever when
t he wipe r arms are folded away from the
w indshield . The windsh ield wipers wou ld
move back into their original position
and co uld damage the hood and wind­
shield.
- To help prevent damage to the w iper sys­
tem, always loosen blades which are fro­
zen to the windshield before operating
w ipers.
- To help p revent damage to wiper blades,
do not use gasoline, kerosene, paint
thinner, or other solvents on or near the
w iper blades .
- To help prevent damage to the w iper
arms or other components, do not at­
tempt to move the wipe rs by hand .
(D Tips
- Commercial hot waxes applied by auto­
matic car washes affect the how easily
the glass surface can be cleaned .
- You can also use the service position, for
example, if you want to protect the
w indshield from icing by using a cover .
