A WARNING ,~ ~
If the ~ (USA models)/ . (Canada
models) brake system indicator light turns
on together with the ABS and ESC indica
tor lights, the ABS/ESC regulating function
may have failed. Functions that stabilize
t he vehicle are no longer avai lab le. This
cou ld cause the vehicle to swerve and in
crease the risk of sliding . Drive caref ully to
the nearest a uthorized Audi dea ler and
have the malfunction corrected.

ABS/(@!) Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
This warning/indicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differential lock (EDL).
The warning/indicator light rII:1 (USA mod
els)/ [I] (Ca nada models) w ill come o n for a
few seconds when the ignition is switched on.
The light will go out after an a utomatic chec k
sequence is completed.
There is a malfunction in the ABS when :
- The warning/ indicator lig ht does not illumi
na te when you swi tc h t he ignition on.
- T he warning/i ndicator lig ht does not go out
after a few seconds .
- T he warn ing/ind icator lig ht illuminates
wh ile driving.
T he ESC indicator light also illuminates if
there is a malfunction in the ABS . The mes
sage
Stabilization contro l (ESC) : Fault! See

also appears in the inst ru
men t clus ter display and a war ning tone
sounds.
Th e brake sy ste m will still respond even
without th e assi stan ce of the ABS sy ste m .

Malfunction in the brake system

Malfunction in th e electronic diff erential
lock (EDL)
The EDL works together w ith the ABS. The
ABS warning light will come on if there is a malfunction in the EDL system

The
II (USA models)/ m (Canada models) in
d icator light monitors the safety systems (e .g .
a ir bags, pretensioners) and illuminates for a
few seconds each time you switch the ignition
on.
If the
ffl (USA models)/ EI (Canada models)
indicator light does not go out, or if it illumi
nates whil e you are driv ing, or if it sta rts to
b link , then there is a malf unction somewhere
in the system. If the light does not illuminate
when you switch the ignition on, this also
means there is a ma lfunction.
A WARNING
If you have a malfunction in the safety sys
tems, contact your authorized Audi dealer
immediately . Otherwise the safety sys
tems may not work properly in an acci
dent .
(0) Worn brake pads

If the warning light illumina tes, immediately
contact your authorized Audi dealer or quali
fied workshop to have all brake pads inspect

EPC Electronic power control
This warning/indicator light monitors the
electronic power control.
The ~ warning/indicator light (Electronic
Power Control) illuminates when you switch
the ignition on as a function check.

If this warning/indicator light illuminates
while you are driving, then there is a mal
function in the engine electronics. Have
the malfunct ion corrected as soon as pos
sible by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified repair facility.
0 Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
Th e Ma lfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is part
of the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
T he symbo l¢• lights up when the ignition is
switched on and will turn off after the engine
has started and has settled at a constant idle
speed. This indicates that the MIL is working
properly.
T he warning light illuminates when there is a
malfunction in the engine electronic system .
Contact your authorized Audi dea ler and have
the malfunction corrected.

Some f unctions and vehicle components are
scanned for their operating sta tus when yo u
switch the ign ition on and wh ile you are driv
ing . Malfunctions or required s ervice proce
dures are signaled audib ly and indicated by
red and yellow illuminated symbols and re
minders in the display .
A WARNING
-
- Never rely exclusively on the outside
temperature display to determine if a
road surface is icy o r not . Keep in m ind
th at r oad surfaces, espec ia lly br idges
and overpasses, co uld be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside tempe ratu re
above 41 ° F (+S °C).
- Always remember , even if the "snow
f lake" symbo l (ice warning) does not ap
pear in the d isp lay, black ice cou ld be on
the road .
- Always reduce your speed and drive with
special care in cold weather conditions
when the chance of encountering icy
road surfaces increases.
{I) Tips
If the vehicle is stationary, or if yo u a re
driving at a very lo w speed, the tempera
ture shown in the display might be s light ly
higher than the actua l outs ide tempera
ture. This is caused by the heat be ing radi
ated from the engine .

Single-trip memory (Trip computer 1)
The single -trip memory stores the trip infor
mat ion from the time the ignition is turned on
until it is turned off. If the trip is continued
within 2 hours from the time the ignition was
turned off, the new data will be included in
the calculation of the current trip informa
tion. If the trip is interrupted for
more than 2
hours the memory is reset automatically.
Total-trip memory (Trip computer 2)
Unlike the sing le-trip memory, the total-trip
memory is not reset automatically. This per
mits you to evaluate your driving data for the
enti re pe riod between manual resets.

ignition is on. When you turn on the ign it ion,
the function that was in use when you last
turned the ignition off will be displayed .
In addition to information about the trip com
puter (trip computer 1, 2 and the efficiency
program*), information about other systems
can also be shown in the disp lay. To switch the
display between the different information ,
tap the
! RESET I button @briefly.
Resetting values to zero
~ Select a value in the desired tr ip computer
or in the eff iciency program".
~ Press and hold the I RESE T I button @for at
least one second . All values in the selected
trip computer or in the efficiency program*
are reset to zero.
If the data in trip computer
1 are deleted ,
then the values in the efficiency program* w ill
also be reset.
With some vehicle equipment levels, the val
ues for the single trip or total trip memory
can a lso be reset in the Infotainment system
¢page 25 .
(D Tips
All stored va lues w ill be lost if the vehicle
battery is disconnected.

F ue l economy messages are disp layed when
fuel consumption is increased by certain con ditions. If you follow these fuel economy mes
sages, you can reduce your vehicle's consump
tion of fuel. The messages appear automati
cally and are only displayed in the efficiency program. The fuel economy messages turn
off
automatically after a certain period of time.

The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due.

The schedule for the next o il change or inspec
tion is ca lculated automatically and displayed
accord ingly. The d isp lay works in two stages:
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a serv
ice reminder appears in the display when you
turn on the ign ition

After about 5 seconds the display switches
back to normal. The distance and time re
main ing are updated each time the ignit ion is
turned on until the date due for serv ice is
reached.
Service due
When the due date for service is reached, the message
Service due! appears in the instru
ment cluster immed iately after you turn on
the ignition. Additional ly, a warning tone
sounds. After about 5 seconds the disp lay
switches back to normal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspection is due,
can be shown in the rad io or MMI* display by
selecting the service interval display in the car

Resetting the service interval display
Your authorized Audi dealer w ill rese t the cor
responding service schedule after performing
the appropriate service on your vehicle. Yo u
also have the possibility to reset the oil
change schedule after having performed an
oil change according to Audi specifications.

- Only reset the oil change d isplay when

-If you disconnect the battery terminals,

terva ls is vitally important to extending
the life of your vehicle, particularly the
engine, and maintaining its va lue. Even if
the mileage dr iven is low, the max imum
period of one year from one serv ice to
the next must not be exceeded .

On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ¢..ift in
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light illuminates when
the ignition is switched on and goes out after
the engine starts and the idle has stabilized .
This indicates that the MIL is work ing proper
l y.

If the light does not go out after the engine
is started, or illuminates while you are driv
ing , a malfunction may exist in the engine sys
tem.
If the light illuminates, the catalytic con
verter could be damaged.
Continue d rivin g
with reduced power (avoid
ing su sta ined high speeds and/or rapid accel
erations) and have the cond ition corrected.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer.
If the light illuminates, the electronic speed
li miter may also be malfunct ioning. For more

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board Diagnostics monitors the compo
nents of your emission contro l system . Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been assigned a code. In case of a mal
function, the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control
module memo ry .
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a
leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery sys
tem. If the light illumi nates afte r a refueling,
stop the vehicle and make sure the fuel filler
cap is properly closed
¢ page 210.
In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can on ly be displayed using spe
c ial diagnostic equipment (generic scan tool

Opening and closing
Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock and unlock the vehicle centrally.
You have the following choices:
- Remote master key~

-Door handles with convenience key*

Automatic locking
The automat ic locking feature locks all the ve
hi cle doors and the rear lid when you drive
faster than 9 mph (15 km/h).
The car is un locked again once the ignition key
is removed . In addition, the veh icle can be un
locked if the opening fu nction in the power
lock ing system sw itch or at one of the door
l eve rs is actuated. The Au to Lo ck function can
be turned o n and off in the rad io or
MMI*
r=> page 36 .
Additionally, in the event of a c rash with air
bag deployment the doors are automatically
u nl ocked to a llow access to the veh icle.
Selective unlocking
When you lock the vehicle, the power locking
system w ill lock the doors and the rear lid.
W hen unlocking, you ca n set in the rad io or
M MI* whethe r
only the dr iver's door or t he
enti re ve hicle should be unlocked

Anti -theft alarm warning system
If the a nti-theft alarm warning system de
tects a brea k-in into t he vehicle, acoust ic and
visua l wa rning sig na ls are triggered.
The an ti-theft warn ing system is act ivated au
tomatically when you lock the vehicle .
It is de
activated when u nlocking using the remote

switch on the ignition.
T he al arm a lso t urns off w hen t he a la rm cy cl e
has expired.
Turn signals
When you u nlock the ve hicle, the turn signals
flash twice, when yo u lock it once. If they do
not flash, one of the doo rs, the luggage com
partment lid or the hood is not lo cked or the
ignition is s till sw itched on.
Unint entionally locking yourself out
In the follow ing cases there safeg uards to
prevent you lock ing you r remote master key in
t h e ve hicl e:
- The vehicle does not loc k w ith the power
lock ing switc h
r=> page 35 if the drive r's
door is open.
- On veh icles with convenience key*, if the
most recently used master key is in the lug
gage compartment, the rear lid is a utomat i
cally u nlocked again after it is closed.
Do not lock your veh icle w ith the remote mas
te r key o r convenience key* unt il all doors a nd
the rear lid a re closed. In this way you avoid
l ocking yo urse lf o ut accidentally.
_&. WARNING
-
-When you leave the veh icle, alw ays re
move the ignition key an d take it with
you. This wi ll prevent passengers (chil
dren, for example) from acc identally be
ing locked in the vehicle should they acci
dentally press the power locking switch in the front doors.
- Do not leave ch ildren inside the vehicle
unsuperv ised. In an emergency it would
be imposs ible to open the doors from
the o utside w itho ut the key.

- In the event of a crash with airbag de
ployment all locked doors will be auto
matically unlocked to give access to the
v ehicle occupants from the outside.
