display
Introduction
The Driver information display inside the in ­
strument cluster provides you, the driver ,
with important information .

With the ignition on, the display in the Dr iver
I nforma tion System shows the fo llowing in­
formation :

Some f unctions and vehicle components are
scanned for their operating sta tus when yo u
switch the ign ition on and wh ile you are driv ­
ing . Malfunctions or required s ervice proce­
dures are signaled audib ly and indicated by
red and yellow illuminated symbols and re­
minders in the display .
A WARNING
-
- Never rely exclusively on the outside
temperature display to determine if a
road surface is icy o r not . Keep in m ind
th at r oad surfaces, espec ia lly br idges
and overpasses, co uld be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside tempe ratu re
above 41 ° F (+S °C).
- Always remember , even if the "snow­
f lake" symbo l (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the d isp lay, black ice cou ld be on
the road .
- Always reduce your speed and drive with
special care in cold weather conditions
when the chance of encountering icy
road surfaces increases.
{I) Tips
If the vehicle is stationary, or if yo u a re
driving at a very lo w speed, the tempera­
ture shown in the display might be s light ly
higher than the actua l outs ide tempera­
ture. This is caused by the heat be ing radi­
ated from the engine .

The values in the single -trip or the total-trip
memory can a ll be reset to zero at the same
time under
Reset in the menu.
I n addition, you can determine what informa­
tion from the trip computer should be shown
in the instrument cluster d isplay. If one of the
p ieces of driver information is turned
Off, that
driver information will not be shown in the
display. The information will continue to be
calculated by the trip computer and can be
turned back
On at any time .
@ Tips
-This function is not available on all
vehicles.
- The dr iving information in the efficiency
program is also reset to zero with the
s ingle-trip memory.
Gearshift Indicator
App lies to vehicles: with manua l transmission and gear­
shift indicator
This indicator can help conserve fuel.

In order to become familiar with the gearshift
indictor, at first just drive the way you are
used to. If the current gear -and the driving
situa tion -is not the best one for conserving
fuel, then the indicator will display the recom­
mended gear. The display shows the current
gear and the gear that is recommended
¢ fig. 12.
- Upshifting The display will light up to the
right of the gear currently se lected if it is
recommending a higher gear.
-Downshifting: The display will light up to
the
left of the gear currently selected if it is
recommend ing a lower gear.
Sometimes the indicator will recommend
skipping a gear (3
> S).
If there is no gearshift recommendation, then
j us t drive in the appropriate gear for conserv­
ing fuel.

This indicator can help you conserve fuel.
This indicator is not meant to show you
which gear you should always be in in all
driving situations . Sometimes, in situa­
tions such as passing, driving through
mountains or when towing a trailer, there
won't be any gearshift recommendation.
@ Tips
The display does not light up when the
clutch pedal is being depressed.
Efficiency program
Description

T he efficiency program can help you to use
less fue l. It evaluates driving information in
reference to fuel consumption and shows oth­
er equipment influencing consumption as well
as shift recommendat ions . Fuel economy

The color of the circle indicates if the most
suitab le gear is engaged or if you sho uld sh ift
up or down.

Other equ ipment that is currently affecting
fuel consump tion is listed in the effi ciency
program. The disp lay shows up to th ree other
items of eq uipment @. The equ ipment using
the most fuel is listed first. If more than three
items using fuel a re switched on, the equip­
ment that is currently using the most fuel is
displayed.
A scale @also shows the c urrent tota l con ­
sumption of all othe r equipment .

Locking and unlocking with convenience
key
Applies to vehicles: with convenience key
The doors and the rear lid can be unlocked
and locked without operating the master key .

The vehicle can be locked and unlocked at any
door. The remote control key cannot be more
than 1.5 m away from the door handle. It makes no difference whether the master key
is in your jacket pocket or in your brief case .
If you grip the door handle while locking, this
can adversely affect the locking function.
It is not possible to re-open the door for a
brief period directly after closing it. This al­
lows you to ensure that the doors are properly
locked.

If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended period, please note the following:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power . You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second t ime to
open the vehicle.
- To prevent the battery from being dis­
charged and to preserve your vehicle's
ability to start for as long as possible,
the energy management system gradu­
ally switches off unnecessary conven­
ience functions. It is possib le that you
w ill not be able to unlock your vehicle us­
ing these convenience functions.

Manually adjustable steering wheel
The steering wheel position is fully adjustable
up and down and forward and bock .

First, adjust the driver's seat correctly .
• Pull the lever

• Move the steer ing whee l to the desired posi­
t ion.
• Push the lever against the steering column
until it locks.
There must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­ tween your chest and the center of the steer­
ing wheel. If you cannot sit more than 10 in­
ches (25 cm) from the steering whee l, see if
adaptive equipment is available to help you
reach the pedals and increase the distance
from the steering wheel.

A WARNING
Improper use of steeri ng wheel adjust­
ment and improper seating position can
cause serious personal injury.
- Adjust the steering whee l co lumn on ly
when the veh icle is not moving to pre­
vent loss of veh icle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel
so that there is a minimum of 10 inches
(25 cm) between your chest and the
steering wheel

yo u cannot mainta in this min imum dis- tance, the airbag system cannot protect
you proper ly.
- If physical limitations prevent you from
sitting 10 inches (25 cm) or more from
the steering wheel, check with your au­
thorized Audi dealer to see if adaptive
equ ipment is ava ilable .
- If the steer ing wheel is aligned with your
face, the supplementa l driver's a irbag
cannot provide as much protection in an
accident . Always make sure that the
steer ing wheel is aligned with your
chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel w ith your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of persona l injury
if the driver's airbag dep loys .
- Never hold the stee ring wheel at the 12
o'clock position or with your hands inside
the steeri ng wheel rim or on the steering
wheel hub . Holding the steering wheel
the wrong way can cause serious injuries
to the hands, arms and head if the driv­
er's airbag deploys.
Ignition lock
Starting engine with the key
Applies to vehicles : w ith ign ition lock
The ignition is switched on and the engine
started with the ignition key .

clutch pedal and move the shift lever to the
neutra l position .
