T he 12 vo lt socket can be used for electrical
accessories. T he power cons umption a t the

The socket works only when the ignition is

of injur ies, never leave childre n unattend­
ed in the vehicle wi th the vehicle key.

Increasing the size of the luggage
compartment
The rear seat backrests can be folded forward
either separately or together.

T here is a release lever on each of the side
panels in the luggage compartment to release
both rea r seat backres ts.
Folding the b ackre st forward
• Pull the release lever for the backrest in the
direction of the arrow. The backrest w ill fold
forward automat ically after it is released

• Fold th e backrest down until it latches se­

A WARNING
-W hen releasing the rear se at backrest,
make sure t here are no peop le or animals
wit hin its range of motion. The backrest
will fold forward automatically after it is
re leased.
- The backrest m ust be securely latched so
objects cannot s lide forward out of the
luggage compartment during sudden
brak ing.
- Always make sure the backrest is latched
completely by pul ling forward on it.
- Make sure the safety be lt is not caught in
the door hinges or the seat fittings and

sliding, and it can also be used as a cargo bag .

Due to the laws of p hys ics, even small objects
that are loose in the vehicle can become heavy
projectiles and cause serious i njuries dur ing a
collis ion. Objects in the vehicle increase in ki­
n etic energy, which varies depending on the
ve hicle and the weight of the object. The vehi­
cle speed is the most important factor in th is.
E xample : In a frontal impact at a speed of
30 mph (48 km/h), the weight of a 10- lb (5-
kg) object increases to app roximately
20
times its normal weight d ue to the forces act­
ing upon it. This means the weight of the ob- ject is suddenly equivalent to approximately
200 lb (90 kg). It is easy to imagine the type
of injuries an object of that weight could
cause if it slides through the passenger com­
partment unrestrained during a collision at a
relat ively low speed.
_&. WARNING
-
Weak, damaged or faulty straps used to
secure objects to the tie-downs can fail
d uring heavy bra king or a collis ion and
l ead to se rious in juries.
- Always use su itable straps and secure
objects to the tie-downs in t he luggage
compartment to preven t objects from
shifting and sliding forward .
- Never secure a child seat restraint to a
tie -down .
- Because of thei r load capacity, the hooks
should only be used to secure objects
that weig h a maximum of 10 lb (5 kg).
Heavy objects will not be secured suff i­
ciently, and t his increases the risk of in­
jury.

Reversible mat

The reversible mat protects the luggage com­
partment and bumper from dirt and scratch­ es.

You can use the reversible mat with the dirt­
resistant side or the decorative side. After
loading or unloading, fold up the reversible
mat and close the luggage compartment lid.
Only store the reversible mat if it is dry .

Manual climat e control system*
For a comfortable temperature, we recom­
mend :
- in warmer times of the yea r, set the temper­
atu re so that it is only a few degrees be low
the outside tempe ratu re.
- set the blower at a moderate speed
- don't direct the air flow d irectly on the pas-
sengers
IA/C l Switching the cooling mode* on and
off
The cooling mode only f unct ions w ith the
b lower turned on . The a ir is not cooled and
h umidity is not removed when cooling mode
i s swit ched off. This c an cause fog o n the w in­
dows. The cooling mode sw itches off auto­
matica lly in co ld outside temperatures (below
32 °F/0°C) .

To prevent the windows from fogging over,
the blower sh ou ld always ru n at a low speed.

The temperature can be adjusted individually
for the driver and front passenger using the
dials . Temperatu res between 60 °F (+16 °C)
and 84 °F (+28 °C) can be set . Outs ide of this
range,
Lo or Hi will appear in the climate con­
trol system display. In both settings, the cli­ mate control runs with constantly at the max­
i mum cooling or heating level. The tempera­
ture is not regu lated.
Syn chroni zation: By pressing the !AU TO I but ­
ton for two seconds , the temperat ure setting
for the driver is transferred to the front pas­
senger's side. This applies a temperature
change to the front passenger's side.
~ Adjusting the blower
To prevent the windows from fogging over,
the blower shou ld always run at a low speed.
You ca n adj ust the volume of air generated by
the blower to you r preference. To have the
b lower regu la ted automatically, press the
!AU TO! button.

ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as
poss ible . The maximum amount of air flows
main ly from the vents below the windshield.
Recircu lation mode switches off. The tempera­
ture is controlled automatically. In the

! AIC ! cooling mode sw itches on auto­
matically, depending on the outside air tem ­
perature .
The
! AU TO ! button sw itches the defroster off.

The recircu lation mode can be turned on man ­

- Switching manual recirculation mode on and
off: Press the~ button. The LED light up
when switched on.
- Automatic* recircu lation mode: The recircu ­

The a ir quality sensor that is des igned for
diesel and gasoline exhaust automatically
sw itches the rec irculat ion mode on or off
depending on the leve l of po llutants in the
outs ide air .
In recirculation mode, the air inside the vehi­
cle is circulated and filtered . This prevents the
unfiltered air outs ide the veh icle from e nter­
ing the vehi cle interior. We recommend
switching recircu lation mode on when driving
th rough a tunne l or when sitting in traffic

The 1- 1 button, IAU TO ! or the [i] bu tton
switches rec irculation mode off.
The system switches to recirculation mode
whe n driving in reve rse when the engine is
cold.

When seat heating should not be
sw itch ed on
Do not turn the seat heating on under the fol­
l owing circumstances:
- T he seat is unoccupied.
- T he seat is covered w ith a seat cover.
- The seat is covered w ith a ch ild seat .
- The seat is damp or wet .
A WARNING
Individuals with reduced sensitivity to pain
or temperatu re could develop burns when
using the seat heating function. To reduce
t he risk of inju ry, these individ uals should
not use seat heating.
(D Note
To avo id damage to the heating elements
in the seats, do not kneel on the seats or
p lace heavy loads on a small area of the
seat.
(D Tips
- The se tti ng fo r the seat heating on the
driver's side is assigned to the key that is
1 n use .
- If the fron t passenger's seat heating is
turned on, it will not turn on again auto­
ma tically if more than
1 0 minutes have
passed between switching the ignition
