Even when performing the following actions with the intent of enabling engine
braking, engine braking will not activate because cruise control will not be
canceled.
●While driving in D or 7-speed sport sequential shiftmatic mode, downshifting
to 6, 5 or 4. (P. 178)
●When switching the driving mode to sport mode while driving in D position.
(P. 177)
■Downshifting restrictions warning buzzer
To help ensure safety and driving performance, downshifting operation may
sometimes be restricted. In some circumstances, downshifting may not be
possible even when the shift lever is operated. (A buzzer will sound twice.)
■Sport mode automatic deactivation
Sport mode is automatically deactivated if the engine switch is turned off after
driving in sport mode.

CAUTION
■When driving on slippery road surfaces
Be careful of downshifting and sudden acceleration, as this could result in
the vehicle skidding to the side or spinning.

To set the parking brake, fully
pull the parking brake lever
while depressing the brake
pedal.
To release the parking brake,
slightly raise the lever and
lower it completely while press-
ing the button.

■Parking brake engaged warning buzzer
A buzzer will sound if the vehicle is driven at a speed of approximately 3 mph
(5 km/h) or more with the parking brake engaged. (P. 492, 504)

Fully release the parking brake.
Driving the vehicle with the parking brake set will lead to brake components
overheating, which may affect braking performance and increase brake

If a warning light turns on or a warning
buzzer sounds
Calmly perform the following actions if any of the warning lights
comes on or flashes. If a light comes on or flashes, but then
goes off, this does not necessarily indicate a malfunction in the
system. However, if this continues to occur, have the vehicle
inspected by your Toyota dealer.

Brake system warning light (warning buzzer)*1
Indicates that:
• The brake fluid level is low; or
• The brake system is malfunctioning
This light also comes on when the parking brake is not
released. If the light turns off after the parking brake is
fully released the system is operating normally.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and con-
tact your Toyota dealer. Continuing to drive the vehi-
cle may be dangerous.
Charging system warning light*3
Indicates a malfunction in the vehicle’s charging system
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and con-
tact your Toyota dealer.
Low engine oil pressure warning light*3
Indicates that the engine oil pressure is too low.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and con-
tact your Toyota dealer.

High engine coolant temperature warning light*3
Indicates that the engine is almost overheating. (P. 537)
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and con-
tact your Toyota dealer.

Malfunction indicator lamp
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The electronic engine control system;
• The electronic throttle control system;
• The electronic automatic transmission control system; or
• The electronic continuously variable transmission con-
trol system.
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
SRS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The SRS airbag system;
• The front passenger occupant classification system; or
• The seat belt pretensioner system
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.

ABS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The ABS; or
• The brake assist system
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
Electric power steering system warning light (warning
buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the EPS (Electric Power Steer-
ing) system
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
(Flashes in yellow for
15 seconds.)
Smart key system indicator light*3, 6
Indicates a malfunction in the smart key system.
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.

Slip indicator
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) system; or
• The TRAC (Traction Control) system
The light will flash when the VSC or the TRAC
system is
operating.

Cruise control indicator light*3, 6
Indicates a malfunction in the cruise control system.
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
Open door warning light (warning buzzer)*2, 3
Indicates that a door or the trunk is not fully closed
Check that all the doors and the trunk are closed.
Low fuel level warning light
Indicates that remaining fuel is approximately 2.0 gal. (7.5
L, 1.7 Imp. gal.) or less
Refuel the vehicle.
Seat belt reminder light (warning buzzer)*5
Warns the driver and/or front passenger to fasten their
seat belts
Fasten the seat belt.
If the front passenger’s seat is occupied, the front
passenger’s seat belt also needs to be fastened to
make the warning light (warning buzzer) turn off.
Low windshield washer fluid warning light*3, 6
Low level of washer fluid.
Fill the tank.
Master warning light*4
A buzzer sounds and the warning light comes on and
flashes to indicate that the master warning system has
detected a malfunction.

Tire pressure warning light*6
When the light comes on:
Low tire inflation pressure such as
• Natural causes (P. 499)
• Flat tire (P. 514)
Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified
level.
The light will turn off after a few minutes. In case
the light does not turn off even if the tire inflation
pressure is adjusted, have the system checked by
your Toyota dealer.
When the light comes on after blinking for 1 minute:
Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system
Have the system checked by your Toyota dealer.
