Failure of the central locking
In the event of failure of central locking, the key can be used to lock or unlock
the driver's door alone. The other doors and the tailgate can be emergency
locked or emergency released.

Displaying an error
If the warning icon in the driver's door initially flashes quickly for around 2 sec-
onds, and then lights up for 30 seconds without interruption before flashing
again slowly, you will need to seek the assistance of a specialist garage.
Discharged battery in the remote control key
If the red warning light B » Fig. 30 on page 50 does not flash when you press
a button on the remote control key the battery is dead.
If the voltage of the battery in the remote control key is too low, the following
message appears in the display of the instrument cluster.
Change the key battery!

Anti-theft alarm system


The anti-theft alarm system increases the level of protection against theft and
break-in
The alarm system triggers audible and visual signals if an attempt is made to
break into the vehicle (hereafter referred to only as alarm).
Triggering the alarm
The alarm is triggered when the following unauthorized actions are carried out
on the locked vehicle.
› Opening the bonnet.
› Opening the boot lid.
› Opening the doors.
› Manipulation of the ignition lock.
› Towing the vehicle

› Movement in the vehicle
» page 55.
› Sudden and significant voltage failure of the electrical system.
› Uncoupling the trailer

If the driver's door of a vehicle with a remote control is unlocked and opened by the lock cylinder, then the alarm is triggered.
Switching off the alarm
The alarm is turned off by pressing the  button on the radio remote control
key or switching on the ignition. 

The reflective vest can be stowed in the storage compartment inside the stor-
age compartment of the door A» Fig. 156 .

The fire extinguisher is attached by two straps in a bracket under the front
passenger's seat.
Removing/attaching

Loosen the two straps by pulling the buckles in the direction of the arrow
» Fig. 157 .

Remove the fire extinguisher.
›
For mounting re-sit the fire extinguisher back into the holder and secure it
with straps.
Please read carefully the instructions which are attached to the fire extin-
guisher.
The fire extinguisher must be checked by an authorised person once a year.
National legal requirements must be observed.
WARNINGThe fire extinguisher must always be secured safely so that they do not
come loose when making an emergency braking or in a vehicle collision
which could cause injuries to occupants.
Note
■ The fire extinguisher must comply with national legal requirements.■Pay attention to the expiration date of the fire extinguisher. Proper function-
ing of the fire extinguisher is not assured once it has passed its expiry date.■
The fire extinguisher is part of the scope of delivery in certain countries only.

Vehicle tool kit
The vehicle tool kit is housed in a box in the spare wheel or in the storage
space for the spare wheel.
Depending on the equipment, not all of the following components in the on-
board tool kit have to be contained in it.

Clamps for removing the wheel trims
Jack with sign
Wheel brace
Tool for removing wheel bolt caps
Replacement bulb set

WARNINGThe factory-supplied lifting jack is only intended for your model of vehicle.

CAUTION■Screw the jack back to the starting position before storing in the box with
the tool kit screws.■
Ensure that the vehicle tool kit is safely secured in the boot.

When using an emergency or spare wheel make sure to mount a wheel with
the appropriate dimensions and design as soon as possible.
After changing the spare wheel, the tyre pressure should be adjusted. In vehi- cles with tyre pressure monitoring tyre pressure values are to be stored
» page 127 .
WARNING■
If, you get a puncture a spare tyre has to be mounted with a non-bound
direction or opposite direction of rotation when, then drive carefully. In this
situation the best properties of the tyre are no longer present.■
If the dimensions or design of the spare wheel differ from the tyres fitted
to the vehicle (e.g. winter tyres or low-profile tyres), it must only be used
briefly in the event of a puncture and if an appropriately cautious style of
driving is adopted.
■
If the dimensions or design of the temporary spare wheel differ from the
fitted tyres, never drive faster than 80 km/h (or 50 mph).
■
Never use the temporary spare wheel if it is damaged.

The wheel is located in a well under the floor covering in the boot and is fixed
in place with a special bolt » Fig. 159.

Open the tailgate.

Lift up the floor in the luggage compartment.

Loosen the belt and take out the box with the tool kit.
›
Unscrew the nut in direction of arrow » Fig. 159.
›
Take out the wheel.
Stowing the wheel
›
Place the wheel into the spare wheel well with the wheel rim pointing down-
ward.
›
Pull the fixing band through the opposite holes in the wheel rim.
›
Screw on the nut in the opposite direction to the arrow » Fig. 159 until the
wheel is safely secured.
›
Replace the box with the tool kit into the spare wheel and secure it with the
tape.
›
Fold back the floor in the luggage compartment.
›
Close the tailgate.

›If the engine does not start, halt the attempt to start the engine after 10 sec-
onds and wait for 30 seconds before repeating the process.›
Detach the jumper cables in the exact reverse order that they were attached.
Both batteries must have a rated voltage of 12 V. The capacity (Ah) of the bat-
tery supplying the power must not be significantly less than the capacity of
the discharged battery in your vehicle.
Jump-start cables
Only use jump-start cables which have an adequately large cross-section and
insulated terminal clamps. Obey the instructions of the jump start cable manu-
facturer.
Positive cable - colour coding in the majority of cases is red.
Negative cable - colour coding in the majority of cases is black.
WARNING■
Do not clamp the jump-start cable to the negative terminal of the dis-
charged battery. There is the risk of detonating gas seeping out the battery
being ignited by the strong spark which results from the engine being star-
ted.■
The non-insulated parts of the terminal clamps must never touch each
other – risk of short circuit.
■
The jump-start cable connected to the positive terminal of the battery
must not come into contact with electrically conducting parts of the vehicle
– risk of short circuit.
■
Route the jump-start cables so that they cannot be caught by any rotat-
ing parts in the engine compartment.
■
There must not be any contact between the two vehicles otherwise cur-
rent may flow as soon as the negative terminals are connected.

A braided tow rope must be used for towing » Fig. 168 -

The following guidelines must be observed when towing.
Vehicles with manual transmission may be towed with a tow bar or a tow rope
or with the front or rear wheels raised.
Vehicles with automatic transmission may be towed with a tow bar or a tow
rope or with the front wheels raised. If the vehicle is raised at rear, the auto-
matic gearbox is damaged!
Driver of the tow vehicle

Engage the clutch gently when starting off or depress the accelerator partic-
ularly gently if the vehicle is fitted with an automatic gearbox.
›
Only then, approach correctly when the rope is taut.
The maximum towing speed is 50 km/h.
Driver of the towed vehicle
›
Switch on the ignition so that the steering wheel is not locked and so that
the turn signal lights, windscreen wipers and windscreen washer system can
be used. 

The removable towing ball may be fitted and used for towing on vehicles witha factory fitted tow hitch » page 129, Hitch .
Towing the vehicle using the towing device is a viable alternative solution to
using the towing eye.
CAUTION
The detachable ball rod and/or the vehicle can be damaged if an unsuitable
tow bar is used.

We recommend having faulty rechargeable batteries replaced by a ŠKODA
service partner.

Pay attention to the correct polarity when changing the battery.
