Switch the cooling system on/off
After the cooling system is switched off, only the ventilation function remains active, whereby the lowest temperature that can be reached is the outside
temperature.
Setting temperature
The set temperature value appears in the display (pos. 2
» Fig. 104 ).
The interior temperature can be set between +16 ℃ and +29 ℃. The interior
temperature is regulated automatically within this range.
If you set the temperature to below +16 °C, “LO” appears in the display. If you set the temperature to higher than +29 ℃, “HI” appears in the display.
At both end positions, Climatronic runs at maximum cooling/heating output
and the temperature is automatically not regulated.

The Climatronic system controls the blower stages automatically in line with
the interior- and ambient temperatures. However, the blower level can be
manually adjusted to suit your particular needs.
If the blower speed is reduced to a minimum, Climatronic is switched off.
The set blower speed is indicated by the corresponding number of segments
(pos. 9
» Fig. 104 ) in the display.
Automatic mode
The automatic mode is used in order to maintain a constant temperature and
to demist the windows in the interior of the car.

Automatic mode can be switched off by pressing any of the air distribution
buttons or by increasing/decreasing the blower speed. The temperature is
nevertheless regulated.

The air conditioning system compressor uses power from the engine when incooling mode, which will affect the fuel consumption.
It recommended to open the windows or the doors of a vehicle for which the
interior has been strongly heated through the effect of direct sunlight in order
to allow the heated air to escape.
The cooling system should not be switched on if the windows are open.

The parking aid (hereinafter referred to only as system) draws attention via
acoustic signals or the Infotainment display when manoeuvring around obsta-
cles in the vicinity of the vehicle.
The system uses ultrasound waves to calculate the distance between the
bumper and an obstacle. The ultrasonic sensors are, depending on vehicle
equipment,, located in the back or in the front bumper » Fig. 115 on page 117 .
WARNING■
The system only serves as an assistance and does not relieve the driver
of the responsibility for the vehicle operation.■
Moving persons or objects may not be recognised by the system sensors.
■
Under certain circumstances, surfaces of certain objects and types of
clothing cannot reflect the system signals. For this reason, such people or
objects may not be recognised by the system sensors.
■
External noise sources may affect the signals of the system sensors. Un-
der adverse conditions, this may cause objects or people to be not recog-
nised by the system.
■
Before reversing, you should make sure that there are no small obstacles,
such as rocks, thin posts, trailer drawbars etc. in front or behind your vehi-
cle. Such obstacles may not be recognised by the system sensors.
CAUTION
■ Keep the system sensors » Fig. 115 on page 117 clean, snow-and ice-free and
do not cover with any objects of any kind, otherwise the system functioning
may be impaired.■
Under adverse weather conditions (heavy rain, water vapour, very low or
high temperatures etc.) system function may be limited “incorrect obstacle de-
tection ”.

Additionally installed accessories such as e.g. bicycle carriers can impair the
system function.

If no speed limit is set, the current speed is set as the speed limit.
At the start of the regulation, the current speed is set as the speed limit and
displayed in the instrument cluster display. The warning light illuminates in
the instrument cluster.
Exceeding the speed limit during the regulation
If exceeding the speed limit is required during the regulation, for example
when overtaking, then the accelerator pedal is to be fully pressed.
When exceeding the speed limit, an acoustic signal sounds and the warning
light
in the instrument cluster flashes.
The regulation is resumed once the speed has fallen below the set limit.
CAUTION
When driving downhill, exceeding the set speed limit may occur. When exceed-
ing the limit, an acoustic signal sounds and the warning light in the instru-
ment cluster flashes.
Note
By pressing the button during the regulation this is cancelled and the GRA
is activated.

the danger of a collision with a vehicle or another obstacle in front of the vehi-
cle and tries to avoid a collision or mitigate its consequences by automatically
applying the brakes as appropriate.

Always adapt your speed and safety proximity to the vehicle ahead to the
current visibility, weather, road and traffic conditions.

The increased passenger protection afforded through the system must
not tempt you to take greater risks than otherwise – risk of accident!

The system does not respond to crossing or oncoming objects.
CAUTION
In case of failure of more than one brake light on the vehicle or on the electri-
cally connected trailer, the system becomes unavailable.

detect objects by radiating and receiving electromagnetic waves.
The sensor function may be impaired in the events of one of the following.
› The sensor is soiled by mud, snow and the like.
› The area in front and around the senor is obscured by labels, auxiliary lights
and similar.
› When visibility is poor, (e.g. fog, heavy rain, thick snowfall).
If the sensor is dirty or covered, the corresponding message appears on the
display of the instrument cluster » page 124, Information messages .
WARNING■
If you suspect that the sensor is damaged, deactivate the system. Have
the sensor checked by a specialist garage.■
The sensor can become misaligned by collisions or by damage to the front
of the vehicle, the wheel arch or the underside of the vehicle. This can lead
to impaired function of the sensor - risk of accidents! Have the sensor
checked by a specialist garage.
■
The area in front and around the senor should not be obscured by labels,
auxiliary lights and similar. This can lead to impaired function of the sensor
- risk of accidents!

Remove the snow with a brush and the ice with a solvent-free de-icer.

fuel consumption and polluting emissions and CO 2 emissions by turning the
engine off, e.g. when stopping at traffic lights, and starting the engine again
when moving off.WARNING■ Never let the vehicle roll with the engine switched off.■The brake servo unit and power steering only operate if the engine is run-
ning.

For the system-dependent automatic engine shutdown to operate, the follow-
ing conditions must be met.
The driver's door is closed.
The driver has fastened the seat belt.
The bonnet is closed.
The driving speed exceeded 4 km/h after the last stop.
No trailer is coupled.
Some additional conditions for the system to function cannot be either influ-
enced or recognised by the driver. Therefore, the system can react differently
in situations which are identical from the driver's view.
If, after stopping the vehicle, the check icon
» Fig. 125 appears on the dis-
play, then the conditions for automatic engine shutdown are not met.
Running the engine is essential, for example, for the following reasons.
› The engine temperature for the proper function of the system has not yet
been reached.
› The charge state of the vehicle battery is too low.

WARNING (Continued)■Never install any airbag parts into the vehicle that have been removed
from old cars or have been recycled.■
Never fit damaged airbag parts to a vehicle. The airbags may then not be
triggered properly or not at all in the event of an accident.
■
No modifications of any kind must be made to parts of the airbag system.
WARNING■ A change in the suspension of the vehicle including the use of non-ap-
proved wheels and tyre combinations can alter the functioning of the air-
bag system - there is a risk of accident and fatal injury.■
Never make any changes to the front bumper or bodywork.
WARNINGThe airbag control unit operates using pressure sensors located in the front
doors. For this reason, no adjustments may be carried out to the doors or
door panels (e.g. installation of additional loudspeakers). Resulting damage
can have a negative impact on the function of the airbag system. Any work
on the front doors and door panels must be carried out by a specialist ga-
rage. The following guidelines must be observed.■
Never drive with inner door panels removed.
■
Never drive if parts of the inner door panel have been removed and the
resulting openings have not been properly sealed.
■
Never drive if the loudspeakers in the doors have been removed, unless
the loudspeaker openings have been properly sealed.
■
Always make sure that the openings are covered or filled if additional
loudspeakers or other equipment parts have been installed in the inner
door panels.
Acceptance and recycling of used vehicles

In a lot of countries sufficient trade-in networks have been created, where you
can trade-in your vehicle. After you trade-in your vehicle, you will receive a
confirmation stating the recycling in accordance with environmental regula-
tions.

The best protection for your vehicle against harmful environmental influences
is frequent washing.
The longer insect residues, bird droppings, tree sap, road and industrial dust,
tar, soot particles, road salt and other aggressive deposits remain adhering to
the paintwork of your vehicle, the more detrimental their destructive effect
can be. High temperatures, such as those caused by intensive sun's rays, ac-
centuate this caustic effect.
It is essential to also thoroughly clean the underside of the vehicle at the end
of the winter.
WARNINGWashing your vehicle in the winter: water and ice in the brake system can
affect the braking efficiency – there is the risk of an accident.
CAUTION
The temperature of the water used for cleaning must not exceed 60 °C – there
is a risk of damaging the vehicle.
For the sake of the environment
Only wash the vehicle at washing bays intended for this purpose.1)
Subject to fulfilment of the national legal requirements.

Soften the dirt with plenty of water and rinse as much as you can of this off.Clean the vehicle with a soft sponge, a washing glove or a washing brush.
Work from the top to the bottom - starting with the roof.
For stubborn dirt, agents specifically intended for this purpose are to be used.
Wash out the sponge or washing glove thoroughly at short intervals.
Clean wheels, door sills and similar parts last. Use a second sponge for such areas.
Give the vehicle a good rinse after washing it and dry it off using a chamois
leather.
WARNINGProtect your hands and arms from sharp-edged metal parts when cleaning
the underfloor or the inside of the wheel housings or the wheel trims – risk
of cuts!
CAUTION
■ Only apply slight pressure when cleaning the vehicle's paintwork.■Do not wash your vehicle in bright sunlight – there is a risk of paint damage.
Automatic car wash systems

The usual precautionary measures must be taken before washing the vehicle
in an automatic car wash system (e.g. closing the windows including the slid-
ing/tilting roof, etc.).
If your vehicle is fitted with any particular mounted parts, such as a spoiler,
roof rack, two-way radio aerial – it is best to consult the operator of the car
wash system beforehand.
The lips of the windscreen wiper rubbers must be cleaned and degreased with
cleaning agents especially formulated for the task after an automatic wash
with wax.
CAUTIONFold in the exterior mirrors to prevent damage before washing the vehicle in
an automatic car wash system. Never manually fold in electric exterior mirrors -
always use the electric controls.
Washing with a high-pressure cleaner
Read and observe

When washing the vehicle with a high-pressure cleaner, the instructions foruse of the equipment must be observed. This applies in particular to the pres-
sure used and to the spraying distance .
Maintain a sufficiently large distance to the parking aid sensors and soft mate-
rials such as rubber hoses or insulation material.
CAUTION
■ Do not aim the water jet directly at the lock cylinders or the door or opening
joints when washing the vehicle in the winter using a hose or high-pressure
cleaner – there is a risk of freezing.■
To avoid damaging the parking aid sensors while cleaning with high-pressure
cleaners or steam jets, the sensors must only be directly sprayed for short pe-
riods while a minimum distance of 10 cm must be observed.
