CHECKS

2 LITRE HDI ENGINE
 Fill the fuel tank with at least fi ve litres of Diesel.
 Open the bonnet.
 If necessary, unclip the style cover for access to the priming pump.
 Slacken the bleed screw.
 Squeeze and release the priming pump repeatedly until fuel appears in the transparent pipe.
 Tighten the bleed screw.
 Operate the starter until the engine starts (if the engine fails to sta\
rt at the fi rst attempt, wait around 15 seconds before trying again).
 If the engine fails to start after a few attempts, operate the priming pump again, then the starter.
 Put the style cover back in position and clip it in place, ensuring that\
it has clipped correctly.
 Close the bonnet.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL (DIESEL)
If the engine does not start fi rst time, don't keep trying.
Operate the priming pump again, then the starter motor.
On vehicle fi tted with HDi engines, the fuel system must be primed
if you run out of fuel; refer to the engine compartment view on the
"Diesel engine" page.

CHECKING LEVELS
ENGINE OIL LEVEL
The check is carried out either when the ignition is switched
on using the oil level indicator in the instrument panel, or using
the dipstick.
Take care when working under the bonnet, as certain areas of the engine m\
ay be extremely hot (risk of burns) and the cooling fan could start
at any time (even with the ignition off).
Check all of these levels regularly, in line with the warranty and maintenance record. Top them up if necessary, unless otherwise indicated.
If a level drops signifi cantly, have the corresponding system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualifi ed workshop.
To ensure that the reading is correct, your vehicle must be on
level ground and the engine must have been off for more than
30 minutes.
It is normal to top up the oil level between two services (or oil chang\
es).
PEUGEOT recommends that you check the level, and top up if
necessary, every 3 000 miles (5 000 kms).
Checking using the dipstick
Refer to the "Petrol engine" or "Diesel engine" section for the location\
of
the dipstick in the engine compartment of your vehicle.
- Take the dipstick by its coloured grip and remove it completely.
- Wipe the end of the dipstick using a clean non-fl uffy cloth.
- Refi t the dipstick and push fully down, then pull it out again to make the visual check: the correct level is between the marks A and B . A = MAX
B = MIN
If you fi nd that the level is above the A mark or below the B mark, do
not start the engine .
- If the level is above the MAX mark (risk of damage to the engine),
contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualifi ed workshop.
- If the level is below the MIN mark, you must top up the engine oil.

BATTERY
The battery is located under the bonnet.
For access to it:
 open the bonnet using the interior release lever, then the exterior safety catch,
 remove the plastic cover for access to the two terminals,
 wait 2 minutes after switching off the ignition before disconnecting the battery,
 unclip the fusebox to remove the battery, if necessary.
STARTING USING ANOTHER BATTERY
 Connect the red cable to the positive terminal (+) of the fl at battery A , then to the positive terminal (+) of the slave battery B .
 Connect one end of the green or black cable to the negative terminal (-) of the slave battery B .
 Connect the other end of the green or black cable to the earth point C on the broken down vehicle.
 Operate the starter, let the engine run.
 Wait until the engine returns to idle and disconnect the cables.
ACCESS TO THE BATTERY
The batteries contain harmful substances such as sulphuric
acid and lead. They must be disposed of in accordance with
regulations and must not, in any circumstances, be discarded with
household waste.
Take used remote control batteries and vehicle batteries to a
special collection point.

The fusebox is placed in the lower section of the dashboard (left-hand \
side). It consists of two boxes.

IDENTIFICATION MARKINGS
Various visible markings for the identifi cation of your vehicle.
A. Vehicle identifi cation number (VIN) under the bonnet.
This number is engraved on the bodywork near the damper support.
For access to it, raise the plastic cover. C. Manufacturer's label.
The number is indicated on a self-destroying label affi xed to the
door aperture, below the door striker, on the right-hand side.
This label also indicates the unladen weight, the gross vehicle weight (GVW) and the gross train weight (GVW).
The tyre pressures must be checked when the tyres are cold, at
least once a month.
If the tyre pressures are too low, this increases fuel consumption.
B. VIN on the windscreen lower cross member.
This number is indicated on a self-adhesive label which is visible
through the windscreen. D. Tyre/paint label.

This label is affi xed to the door aperture, on the driver's side.
It bears the following information:
- the tyre infl ation pressures, laden and unladen,
- the tyre sizes,
- the infl ation pressure of the spare wheel,
- the paint colour code.
