The vehicle is stuck in sand,
mud or snowRock your vehicle back and forth to free it. P. 6-32
WA R N I N G
!When attempting to rock your vehicle out of a stuck position, be sure that no one is near the vehicle. The rocking
motion may cause the vehicle to suddenly lurch forward or backward, possibly injuring bystanders.Avoid revving the engine or spinning the wheels. Prolonged efforts to free a stuck vehicle may result in overheating
and transaxle failure.
If the vehicle remains stuck after several rocking attempts, have a towing service pull the vehicle out.

Heated seats
(if so equipped)
N00435600381
The heated seats can be operated by pushing the switch when
the ignition switch or the operation mode is in ON. The indica-
tor light (A) will illuminate while the heater is on.1 (HI) - Heater high (for quick heating)
2 - Heater off
3 (LO) - Heater low (to keep the seat warm)
WA R N I N G
!Persons who are unable to feel temperature change
or skin pain due to age, illness, injury, medication,
alcohol use, fatigue or other physical conditions or
who have sensitive skin may suffer burns when
using the heated seat even at low temperatures. To
reduce the risk of burns, people with such conditions
must use care when using the heated seat.
CAUTION
!Switch off the heated seats when not in use. Operate
the heaters at the “HI” position for quick heating.
After the seat has become warm, set the heater
switch to the “LO” position to keep it warm. Slight
variations in the seat temperature may be felt while
using the heated seats. This is caused by the opera-
tion of the heater’s internal thermostat and does not
indicate a malfunction.

Operation of the CVT
N00560800043
CAUTION
!If a malfunction occurs in the CVT while driving,
the indicator will brink.
In this case, immediately park your vehicle in a safe
place and follow these procedures:
[If the indicator blinks rapidly (once per second),
the CVT fluid is overheating.]
Park your vehicle in a safe place but do not turn off
the engine. Move the selector lever to the “P”
(PARK) position and open the bonnet. Keep the
engine, idling.
After a while, move the selector lever into any posi-
tion other than “P” (PARK) position and confirm
that the indicator stops blinking. It is safe to con-
tinue driving if the indicator no longer blinks.
If the indicator continues blinking or blinks inter-
mittently, have your vehicle inspected at an autho-
rised Mitsubishi Motors dealer or repair facility of
your choice.
[If the indicator blinks slowly (once per 2 seconds),
the CVT safety device may be operating due to a
malfunction.]
Have the vehicle inspected at an authorized
Mitsubishi Motors dealer or repair facility of your
choice as soon as possible.
CAUTION
!Before selecting a position with the engine running
and the vehicle stationary, firmly depress the brake
pedal to prevent the vehicle from creeping.
The vehicle will begin to move as soon as the CVT is
engaged, especially when the engine speed or idle
speed is high, or with the air conditioning operating.
Do not release the brake pedal until you are ready to
drive away.Depress the brake pedal with the right foot at all
times.
Using the left foot could cause driver movement
delay in case of an emergency. To prevent sudden acceleration, never run the
engine at high rpms when shifting from the “P”
(PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL).Operating the accelerator pedal while the other foot
is resting on the brake pedal will affect braking effi-
ciency and may cause premature wear of brake
pads.Use the selector lever in the correct shift position in
accordance with driving conditions.
Never coast downhill backward in the driving shift
position “D” (DRIVE) or coast forward in the “R”
(REVERSE) position.
Engine stopping and increased brake pedal and
steering effort could lead to an accident.

Passing accelerationTo gain extra acceleration in “D” (DRIVE) position (when
passing another vehicle) push the accelerator to the floor. The
CVT will automatically downshift.WaitingFor short waiting periods, such as at traffic lights, the vehicle
can be left in selector lever position and held stationary with
the service brake.
For longer waiting periods with the engine running, place the
selector lever in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position and apply the
parking brake, while holding the vehicle stationary with the
service brake.
Prior to moving off after having stopped the vehicle, make sure
that the selector lever is in “D” (DRIVE) position.
ParkingTo park the vehicle, first bring it to a complete stop, fully
engage the parking brake, and then move the selector lever to
the “P” (PARK) position. When the CVT makes no speed changeIf the CVT does not shift while driving, or your vehicle does
not pick up enough speed when starting on an uphill slope, it
may be that there is something unusual happening in the trans-
mission, causing a safety device to activate. Have your vehicle
checked at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair
facility of your choice as soon as possible.
Do not rev the engine with the brake pedal pressed
when the vehicle is stationary.
This can damage the CVT.
Also, when you depress the accelerator pedal while
holding down the brake pedal with the selector lever
in the “D” (DRIVE) position, the engine revolutions
may not rise as high as when performing the same
operation with the selector lever in the “N” (NEU-
TRAL) position.
CAUTION
!
CAUTION
!To avoid transmission overheating, never try to keep
your vehicle stationary on a hill by using the acceler-
ator pedal. Always apply the parking brake and/or
service brake.Do not rev the engine unnecessarily while the vehicle
is stationary. Unexpected acceleration may occur if
the selector lever is in a position other than “P”
(PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL).

3 Electric power steering system (EPS)
N00568400074
The power steering system operates while the engine is run-
ning. It helps reduce the effort needed to turn the steering
wheel.
The power steering system has mechanical steering capability
in case the power assist is lost. If the power assist is lost for
some reason, you will still be able to steer your vehicle, but
you will notice it takes much more effort to steer. If this hap-
pens, have your vehicle inspected at an authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.NOTEDuring repeated full-lock turning of the steering wheel
(for example, while you are manoeuvring the vehicle into
a parking space), a protection function may be activated to
prevent overheating of the power steering system. This
function will make the steering wheel gradually harder to
turn. In this event, limit your turning of the steering wheel
for a while. When the system has cooled down, the steer-
ing effort will return to normal.
If you turn the steering wheel while the vehicle is station-
ary with the headlights on, the headlights may become
dim. This behavior is not abnormal. The headlights will
return to their original brightness after a short while.
Electric power steering system warning lightIf there is a malfunction in the system, the warning light will
come on.
Under normal conditions, the warning lamp comes on when the
ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation
mode is put in ON, and goes off after the engine has started.
WA R N I N G
!Do not stop the engine while the vehicle is moving.
Stopping the engine would make the steering wheel
extremely hard to turn, possibly resulting in an acci-
dent.
CAUTION
!If the warning light appears while the engine is run-
ning, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized
Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your
choice as soon as possible. It may become harder to
turn the steering wheel.

sure that the light has gone out before driving.Oil pressure warning light
N00520700170
This light comes on when the engine oil pressure is below nor-
mal. If the light stays on while driving, stop the engine as soon
as possible. Do not run the engine until the cause of the low oil
pressure is corrected.
High coolant temperature warning light - red
N00575700011
This light comes on in red if the coolant temperature becomes
excessively high.NOTEThe high coolant temperature warning light may illumi-
nate when the vehicle has been driven at high speeds or on
hilly roads. This illuminating does not necessarily indicate
a problem. It should stop if you keep the engine running
for a while or continue driving the vehicle.
CAUTION
!If the warning light stays on while the engine is run-
ning, park your vehicle in a safe place as soon as
possible and contact an authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice to
have the system checked.
CAUTION
!If this light comes on when the engine oil level is not
low, have your vehicle checked at an authorized
