carried out, this can result in malfunctions or
system failures. There isarisk of an accident.
Always have the prescribed service/
maintenance work as well as any required
repairs carried out ataqualified specialist
workshop.
GWARNING
If you switch off the ignition while driving,
safety-relevant functions are only available
with limitations, or not at all. This could affect,
for example, the power steering and the brake
boosting effect.You will require considerably
more effort to steer and brake. There isarisk
of an accident.
Do not switch off the ignition while driving.
GWARNING
Modifications to electronic components, their
software as well as wiring can impair their
function and/or the function of other
networked components. In particular,
systems relevant to safety could also be
affected. Asaresult, these may no longer
function as intended and/or jeopardize the
operating safety of the vehicle. There is an
increased risk of an accident and injury.
24Introduction
!To ensure the longevity and full
performance of the engine, only premium-
grade unleaded gasoline must be used.
If standard premium-grade unleaded
gasoline is unavailable and unleaded
gasoline ofalower grade is used for
refueling, observe the following
precautions:
Ronly fill the fuel tank to half full with
regularunleaded gasoline and fillthe rest
with premium-gradeunleadedgasoline
as soonaspossible.
Rdo not drive at the maximum speed.
Ravoid sudden acceleration and engine
speeds above 3000 rpm.
Rnever refuel using fuel withaoctane
number lower than 87. Otherwise,
engine failure could occur.
Only refuel using unleadedgasoline with a
minimum octane rating of 91. If gasoline with
alower octane rating is used, engine damage
may occur.
If unleadedgasoline is unavailable and
gasoline of an octane grade lower than 91 is
used, observe the following precautions:
ROnly refuel using enough gasoline to reach
agas station that offers unleadedgasoline.
RDo not under any circumstances refuel
using gasoline withalower octane rating
than 87. Otherwise, immediate engine
damage may occur.
RAvoid sudden acceleration and engine
speeds over 3,000 rpm.
Using mixtures of methanol and ethanol is not
permitted. E10 fuel,amixture of 10% ethanol
and 90% unleadedgasoline, may be used.
You will usually find information aboutthe fuel
grade on the pump. If you cannot find the
label on the pump, ask the staff for
assistance.

Information on refueling (Ypage 165).
Additives
!Operating the engine with fuel additives
added later can lead to engine failure. Do
not mix fuel additives with fuel. This does
not include additives for the removal and
prevention of residue buildup. gasoline
must only be mixed with additives
recommended by Mercedes-Benz. Comply
with the instructions for use on the product
label.More information about
recommended additives can be obtained
from any authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use
branded fuels that have additives.
Do not mix fuel additives with fuel. This
causes unnecessary costsand could lead to
engine failure.
Carbon deposits may form if the availability
of gasoline with relevant additives is
insufficient (in certain regions). In this case,
Mercedes-Benz recommends additives
approved for use in Mercedes-Benz vehicles;
see http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com.
Engine oil
General notes
!Never use engine oil or an oil filter of a
specification other than is necessary to
fulfill the prescribed service intervals. Do
not change the engine oil or oil filter in
order to achieve longer replacement
intervals than those prescribed. You could
otherwise cause engine damage or damage
to the exhaust gas aftertreatment.
Follow the instructions in the service
interval display regarding the oil change.
Otherwise, you may damage the engine and
the exhaust gas aftertreatment.
Comply with the important safety notes for
service products when handling engine oil
