SENS ORS
While searching for a parking place, the system uses s ide
s ens ors (see fig. 78).
Thes e sens ors are automatically activated below around
30 km/h; during thi s s tage if the driver ha s ju st passed a
s pace that might be us eful for a manoeuvre, the function
can be reques ted using the s pecial button; at this point the
ins tructions for carry ing out the manoeuvre will be s hown
on the dis play. If the function is not requested by the dri-
ver us ing the s pecial button, no information will be di s-
play ed on the ins trument panel. OPERATION
The assi
sted parking manoeuvre can onl y be activated with
the ins trument panel on and at speeds below about 30
km/h. It is divided into the following stages :
❍ Activation: pr
essing the button fig. 79 activates the
s earch stage.
❍ Search: through s ide sens ors, the system continuous -
l y s earches for a free parking space, suitable to the vehi-
cle dimens ions. The driver determine s on which s ide of the
road they intend to park us ing the direction indicators
(if no information i s available from the direction indica-
tors or hazard warning lights, the search takes place on
the passenger side).

To select the s earch and manoeuvring s ide, the driver
mus t:
1) D Choos
e to carry out the search for the s pace and
the manoeuvre on the pa ssenger side with:
❍ the direction indicator in the middle po sition;
❍ the hazard warning light s on;
❍ the hazard warning lights on and the direction indi-
cator in the pa ssenger side pos ition;
❍ the direction indicator pointing toward s the passenger
s ide.
2) F Choos
e to carry out the search for the space and the
manoeuvre on the driver side with:
❍ the direction indicator in the driver’ s s ide pos ition;
❍ the hazard warning lights on and the direction indi-
cator in the driver side pos ition;
The system will notify the driver, on the s ide in which the
s earch and the manoeuvre are taking place b y means of ded-
icated messages in the instrument panel dis play and the
symbols (
F and
D) differ
ent on the right and left s ides.
The search will, however, take place on both sides , there-
fore it is possible to make the selection us ing the direc-
tion indicators even when having ju st driven pas t a park-
ing space that is deemed suitable. During the s
earch stage, the s peed must not exceed 30
km/h; when 25 km/h have been reached, the driver i s s ig-
nalled to decreas e the speed; if a s peed of 30 km/h i s ex-
ceeded, the system is deactivated; in thi s cas e, the sys-
tem mus t be restarted by pressing the button
S.
If the Lane crossing function is activated (see “Exterior
lights ” paragraph) the s earch for the parking space always
takes place on the pa ssenger side.
If the parking sens ors are activated during the search for
a parking s pace (see “Front and rear parking sens ors”
paragraph), the operation of the Magic Parking system
i s deactivated.
The search for the parking space and the
parking manoeuvres must be carried out in
compliance with the current regulations of the
Highway Code.

Proceed as follows:
❍engage the handbrake;
❍put the gear lever into neutral;
❍turn the ignition key to MAR: the
m
and
Y
warn-
ing lights on the instrument panel will turn on;
❍wait for the warning lights
Y
and
m
to turn off. The
hotter the engine is, the quicker this will happen;
❍fully depress the clutch pedal without operating the ac-
celerator;
❍turn the ignition key to AVV as soon as the
m
warn-
ing light goes out. Waiting too long will waste the heat-
ing work carried out by the glow plugs.
Release the key as soon as the engine starts.IMPORTANT With cold engine, the accelerator pedal shall
be completely released while turning the ignition key to
AV V.
If the engine does not start at the first attempt, turn the
ignition key to STOP again before repeating the procedure.
If instrument panel
Y
warning light remains lit when the
ignition key is turned to MAR, turn the key to STOP and
then back to MAR; if the warning light remains lit, try the
other keys provided with the vehicle. Contact a Lancia Deal-
ership if you still cannot start the engine.
The
m
warning light will flash for 60 sec-
onds after starting or during prolonged
cranking to indicate a fault with the glow
plug pre-heating system. Use the car normally if the
engine starts and go to a Lancia Dealership as soon
as possible.

Never remove or cover the label. Never apply
a hub cap on a space-saver wheel. The la-
bel bears the following instructions in four
languages: WARNING! FOR TEMPORARY USE
ONLY! 80 KM/H MAX.! REPLACE WITH STAN-
DARD WHEEL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DO NOT
COVER THIS LABEL.
If you change the type of wheel (alloy rims instead
of steel rims) you will have to change the entire set
of fastening bolts with another set of suitably sized
bolts.Alert other drivers that the car is stationary
in compliance with local regulations: hazard
warning lights, warning triangle, etc. Any
passengers on board should leave the car, especial-
ly if it is heavily laden. Passengers should stay
away from on-coming traffic while the wheel is be-
ing changed. If parked on a slope or rough surface,
chock the wheels with wedges or other suitable de-
vices.
204
IN AN EMERGENCY
The jack can only be used for changing
wheels on the car with which it is provided
or on cars of the same model. Never use the
jack for other purposes, such as lifting other car
models. Never use it for repair operations under the
car. Incorrect positioning of the jack may cause the
car to fall. Do not use the jack for loads higher than
those shown on the label. Snow chains cannot be fit-
ted to the space-saver wheel. Therefore, if a front
(drive) wheel is punctured and chains are required,
a rear wheel should be fitted at the front of the car
and the space-saver wheel should be fitted to the
rear. This way, with two normal front driving
wheels, you can install the snow chains on them,
thus resolving the emergency.If the hub cap is not installed properly, it may
detach when the vehicle is running. Never
tamper with the inflation valve. Never intro-
duce tools of any kind between rim and tyre. Reg-
ularly check tyre and space-saver wheel pressure,
complying with the data in the chapter “6”.

USEFUL ADVICE FOR EXTENDING THE LIFE OF
YOUR BATTERY
To avoid draining your battery and make it last longer,
observe the following instructions:
❍when you park the car, ensure the doors, tailgate and
bonnet are closed properly, to prevent any light from
remaining on inside the passenger compartment;
❍turn off the internal roof lights, although the car does
have an automatic system for switching off internal
lights;
❍do not leave devices (e.g. car radio, hazard warning
lights, etc.) switched on for a long time when the en-
gine is not running;
❍before performing any operation on the electrical sys-
tem, disconnect the negative battery cable;
❍battery termi
nals should always be perfectly tightened.
IMPORTANT If the charge level remains under 50% for
a long time, the battery is damaged by sulphation, re-
ducing its capacity and efficiency at start-up.The battery will also be more at risk of freezing (this can
happen as early as –10°C). In case of prolonged idling, re-
fer to the “Car inactivity” paragraph, in chapter “3”.
If, after purchasing your car, you decide to install electri-
cal accessories which require a permanent electric power
supply (alarm, etc.) or accessories which have a serious
impact on the electrical balance, contact a Lancia Deal-
ership: their qualifi
ed personnel will suggest the most suit-
able Lancia Lineaccessori devices and assess the overall
electric consumption, checking whether the car’s electri-
cal system can cope or whether a more powerful battery
is required.
Since some of these devices continue to consume electric-
ity even when the engine is off, they gradually run down
the battery.
