❍Ultras ound source (e.g. pneumatic brakes of trucks or
air drill s) nearby could negatively influence the sens or
performance.
❍ Sens ors may detect a non-exi stent obs tacle (echo in-
terference) due to mechanical interference, for exam-
ple while wa shing the car, rain, s trong wind, hail.
❍ The sens ors might not detect objects of a particular
s hape or made from particular material s (very thin
poles , trailer beams , panels, nets, bushes, parking de-
terrents , rubbish bins, motor vehicles , etc.). Always take
great care, checking that the car and it s path are ef-
fectively compatible with the parking area identified by
the system.
❍ The us e of (one or more) ty res or rims of a different s ize
to thos e pr
es ent when the vehicle wa s purchas ed could
affect the operation of the system.
❍ If the batter y i s dis connected or very run down, before
the Magic Parking system is available it is necessary
to drive a few hundred metre s, not in a straight line,
to initiali se the system.
❍ If a trailer is fitted (with the plug correctly inserted) the
Magic Parking system will automaticall y be dis abled.
❍ If the Magic Parking system is in “search in progress”
mode, the system could incorrectl y identify a parking
s pace and carry out the manoeuvre (e.g. by a junction,
carriage track, roads crossing the direction of travel,
etc.) ❍
In the ca se of parking manoeuvres on roads on a gra-
dient, the performance of the system could be inferior
and it may deactivate.
❍ If a parking manoeuvr
e is being carried out between
two vehicles parked on the pavement, the Magic Park-
ing system may cause the vehicle to mount the pave-
ment.
❍ Some manoeuvres at very tight bend s may not be car-
ried out.
❍ Take great care to ens ure that conditions do not change
during the parking manoeuvre (e.g. if there are pers ons
and/or animals in the parking area, moving vehicle s,
etc.) and intervene immediatel y if necessary .
❍ During parking manoeuvres , pay s pecial attention to
vehicles approaching from the oppo site direction. Al-
ways follow the Highway Code.

DIESEL PARTIC ULATE FILTER (DPF)
(for vers ions/markets where provided)
The Dies el Particulate Filter is a mechanical filter, in-
tegral with the exhaus t system, that physically traps car-
bon particles present in the exhaus t gases of dies el en-
gines . The dies el particulate filter has been adopted to
eliminate almos t all carbon particle s in compliance with
current / future legal regulation s. During normal us e of
the vehicle, the engine control unit record s a s et of data
(e.g.: travel time, ty pe of route, temperature s, etc.) and
it will then calculate how much particulate ha s been
trapped by the filter. S
ince this filter physically traps particulate, it s hould be
regenerated (cleaned) at regular interval s b y burning car-
bon particles . The regeneration procedure is controlled au-
tomatically by the engine management control unit ac-
cording to the filter condition s and vehicle u se condition s.
During r
egeneration, the following may occur: a limited
increas e in the engine s peed, activation of the fan, a lim-
ited increas e in fumes and high temperatures at the ex-
haus t. Thes e are not faults ; they do not impair vehicle per-
formance nor damage the environment. If the dedicated
message is display ed, refer to the “Ins trument panel warn-
ing light s” paragraph in thi s chapter.

SAFETY

FRONT AIRBAGSThe car is provided with front airbags for the driver and
the passenger, driver’s knee bag (for versions/markets
where provided) and front side bags (side bags - window
bags).
The front airbags (driver, passenger driver’s knee bag)
protect the occupants of the front seats in the event of
moderate to serious front impacts by positioning the bag
between the occupant and the steering wheel or the dash-
board.
Therefore non-activation in other types of collisions (side
collisions, rear shunts, roll-overs, etc.) is not a system mal-
function.
An electronic control unit will make the bag inflate in the
event of a frontal impact.
The bag will
inflate instantaneously placing itself between
the front occupants body and the structures which could
cause injury. It will deflate immediately afterwards.
The front airbags (driver, passenger, driver knee bag) do
not replace but rather complement the seat belts, which
you are always advised to wear, as specified by law in Eu-
rope and most non-European countries.
In the event of an impact, someone not wearing a seat belt
could move forward and come into contact with a bag
which is still in the opening phase. The protection offered
by the bag is reduced in such a case. The front airbags may not be activated in the following sit-
uations:
❍front collisions agai
nst highly deformable objects not
affecting the front surface of the car (e.g. bumper col-
lision against guard rail, etc.);
❍car wedging under other vehicles or protective barri-
ers (e.g. trucks or guard rails).
Failure to activate in the conditions described above is due
to the fact that they may not provide any additional pro-
tection compared with seat belts, so their activation would
be inappropriate. In these cases, non-deployment of the
airbag does not necessarily indicate a system malfunction.
Do not apply stickers or other objects on the
steering wheel, on the dashboard in the pas-
senger side airbag area, on the side uphol-
stery on the roof and on the seats. Never put ob-
jects (e.g. mobile phones) on the passenger side of
the dashboard since they could interfere with cor-
rect inflation of the passenger airbag and also cause
serious injury to the passengers.

REPLACING FUSESGENERAL INFORMATION
Fuses protect the electric system: they blow in the event
of a failure or improper action on the system. Check the
condition of the corresponding fuse when a device does
not work: the filament A - fig. 37 must be intact. If it is
not, replace the blown fuse with another having the same
amperage (same colour).
Bintact fuse
C fuse with damaged filament.
To replace a fuse, use the pliers D - fig. 37 attached to
the dashboard fuse box.
Refer to the tables on the following pages to identify the
protection fuse.

If the fuse blows again contact a Lancia
Dealership.Never replace a blown fuse with metal wires
or other materials.Never replace a fuse with another with a
higher amp rating; FIRE RISK.If a general protection fuse (MEGA-
FUSE, MIDI-FUSE, MAXI-FUSE) blows,
contact a Lancia Dealership. Before changing a fuse, check that the igni-
tion key has been removed and that all the
other electric devices have been turned
off/disabled.If a general protection fuse for safety systems
(airbag system, braking system), power unit
systems (engine system, gearbox system) ac-
tive suspension system (for versions/markets, where
provided) or steering system blows, contact a Lan-
cia Dealership.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE
SCHEDULED SERVICINGCorrect servicing is essential in guaranteeing a long life for
the car under the best conditions.
This is why Lancia has planned a series of checks and
maintenance operations every 35,000 km.
It is however important to remember that scheduled ser-
vicing does not completely cover all the car’s requirements
- also in the initial period before 35,000 km service and
later, between one service and another, ordinary care is
still required such as for example routine check and top-
ping up the level of fluids, tyre pressure check, etc.
IMPORTANT Scheduled Servicing is required by the Man-
ufacturer. Failure to carry them out may invalidate thewarranty.Scheduled Services are offered by all Lancia Dealerships
according to a set time schedule.
If during each operation, in addition to the ones sched-
uled, the need arises for further replacements or repairs,
these may only be carried out with the express agreement
of the Customer.
IMPORTANT You are advised to contact a Lancia Deal-
ership in the event of any minor operating faults, with-
out waiting for the next service.
If the car is used frequently for towing a trailer, the in-
terval between services should be reduced.
