Note:Refer to local regulations whendisposing of transmitter batteries.
Note:Do not wipe off any grease on thebattery terminals or on the back surface ofthe circuit board.
Note:You do not need to reprogram theremote control after you have replaced itsbattery, it should operate normally.
A message will appear in the informationdisplay when the remote control batteryis low. See Information Messages (page96).
Integrated Keyhead Transmitter
The remote control uses one coin-typethree-volt lithium battery CR2032 orequivalent.
Press the button to release the key beforebeginning the procedure.
1.Insert a suitable tool, for example ascrewdriver, in the position shown andgently push the clip.
2.Press the clip down to release thebattery cover.
3.Carefully remove the cover.
Note:Do not touch the battery contacts orthe printed circuit board with thescrewdriver.
4.Insert a screwdriver as shown torelease the battery.
5.Remove the battery.

7.Replace the battery cover.
Intelligent Access Transmitter
The remote control uses two coin-typethree-volt lithium batteries CR2025 orequivalent.
1.Slide the release on the back of theremote control and pivot the cover off.
2.Insert a coin into the slot and twist toseparate the housing.
3.Remove the batteries.
4.Install new batteries with the + facingeach other.
Note:Make sure to replace the labelbetween the two batteries.
5.Reinstall the housing and cover.
Remote Start (If Equipped)
WARNING
To avoid exhaust fumes, do not useremote start if your vehicle is parkedindoors or in areas that are not wellventilated.
Note:Do not use remote start if your vehicleis low on fuel.
The remote start button is on thetransmitter.
This feature allows you to start yourvehicle from outside the vehicle. Thetransmitter has an extended operatingrange.
If your vehicle has automatic climatecontrol, you can configure it to operatewhen you remote start your vehicle. SeeClimate Control (page 111). A manualclimate control system will run at thesetting it was set to when you switchedthe vehicle off.

The remote start system will not work if:
•The ignition is on.
•The alarm system triggered.
•You disable the feature.
•The hood is open.
•The transmission is not in park (P).
•The vehicle battery voltage is too low.
•The service engine soon light is on.
Remote Starting the Vehicle
Note:You must press each button withinthree seconds of each other. Your vehiclewill not remote start if you do not follow thissequence.
The tag with your transmitter details thestarting procedure.
To remote start your vehicle:
1.Press the lock button to lock all thedoors.
2.Press the remote start button twice.The exterior lamps flash twice.
The horn sounds if the system fails to start,unless quiet start is on. Quiet start will runthe blower fan at a slower speed to reducenoise. It can be switched on or off in theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 86).
Note:If you remote start the vehicle withan integrated keyhead transmitter, you mustswitch the ignition on before driving yourvehicle. With an intelligent accesstransmitter, you must press theSTART/STOP button on the instrumentpanel once while applying the brake pedalbefore driving your vehicle.
The power windows will not work duringthe remote start and the radio will not turnon automatically.
The parking lamps will remain on and thevehicle will run for 5, 10 or 15 minutes,depending on the setting.
Extending the Vehicle Run Time
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 with the vehicle stillrunning to extend the run time for anotherremote start duration. If you programmedthe duration to last 10 minutes, the second10 minutes will begin after what is left ofthe first activation time. For example, if thevehicle had been running from the firstremote start for five minutes, the vehiclewill continue to run now for a total of 15minutes. You can extend the remote startup to a maximum of 35 minutes.
Wait at least five seconds before remotestarting after a vehicle shutdown.
Turning the Vehicle Off After RemoteStarting
Press the button once. Thevehicle and parking lamps willturn off.
You may have to be closer to the vehiclethan when starting due to ground reflectionand the added noise of the running vehicle.
You can disable or enable the remote startsystem through the information display.See General Information (page 86).

WARNING
The bounce-back feature will notwork and it will not detect obstacleswhen the liftgate is in contact withthe vehicle body.
Note:Do not leave a passive key in yourvehicle when closing the liftgate. A messagewill be shown in the display. SeeInformation Messages (page 96).
Note:A recessed grip is located inside theliftgate to help with closing.
You can either:
•Press the button on the remote controltwice within three seconds.
•Press the center console switch or theliftgate switch.
•Use the liftgate release handle.
•Manually close the liftgate
The liftgate will close automatically whenit comes into contact with the vehicle body.
Programming the Liftgate
1.Open the liftgate.
2.Manually move the liftgate to the newrequired position.
3.Press and hold the liftgate switch forat least three seconds. You will hear achime.
KEYLESS ENTRY
General Information
The system will not function if:
•Your vehicle battery has no charge.
•The passive key frequencies arejammed.
•The passive key battery has no charge.
Note:If the system does not function, youwill need to use the key blade to lock andunlock your vehicle.
The system allows you to operate yourvehicle without the use of a key or remotecontrol.
Passive locking and unlocking requires avalid passive key to be located within oneof the three external detection ranges.These are located approximately 3.3 ft(1 m) from the front door handles and theliftgate.
Note:The system may not function if thepassive key is close to metal objects orelectronic devices, for example keys or a cellphone.

Your vehicle can be locked and unlockedwith the passive key. You can use thepassive key as a remote control. SeeLocking and Unlocking (page 44).
Locking Your Vehicle
Locking sensors are located on each of thefront doors.
For central locking and to arm the alarm,touch a locking sensor once.
For double locking and to arm the alarm,touch a locking sensor twice within threeseconds.
Note:Your vehicle does not automaticallylock. If you do not touch a locking sensoryour vehicle will remain unlocked.
Note:When locking your vehicle, do notgrip the door handle.
Note:Keep the door handle surface cleanto make sure the system operates correctly.
Note: Your vehicle will remain locked forapproximately three seconds. When thedelay period is over, you can open the doorsagain, provided the passive key is within therespective detection range.
Two short flashes of the directionindicators confirms that all the doors andthe liftgate have been locked and that thealarm has been armed.
Liftgate
Note:The liftgate cannot be closed andwill reopen if the passive key is locatedinside the luggage compartment with thedoors locked.
Note:If a second valid passive key islocated within the liftgate detection range,the liftgate can be closed.
Unlocking Your Vehicle
One long flash of the direction indicatorsconfirms that all the doors and the liftgatehave been unlocked and that the alarmhas been disarmed.
Note:When your vehicle remains lockedfor longer than three days, the system willenter an energy-saving mode. This is toprevent the vehicle battery running out ofcharge. When your vehicle is unlocked whilein this mode, the reaction time of the systemmay be a little longer than normal. To exitthe energy-saving mode, unlock yourvehicle.
Note:A valid passive key must be locatedwithin the detection range of that door.
Unlocking Only the Driver Door
You can program the system so that onlythe driver door is unlocked. See RemoteControl (page 32).
If the unlocking function is reprogrammedso that only the driver door is unlocked thefollowing will occur:
•If the driver door is the first dooropened, all the other doors will remainlocked. All the other doors can beunlocked from inside your vehicle bypressing the unlock button. The otherdoors can be unlocked individually bypulling the interior door handle on therespective door.
•If the front passenger door is the firstdoor opened, all the doors will beunlocked.

Note:A valid passive key must be locatedwithin the detection range of that door forkeyless entry. See Keyless Entry (page 48).
Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors and switching your vehicle on orunlocking the doors with the remotecontrol.

Alarm System
WARNING
Do not arm the alarm with full guardif passengers, animals or othermoving objects are inside yourvehicle.
Perimeter Alarm
The perimeter alarm is a deterrent againstunauthorized access to your vehiclethrough the doors and the hood.
Interior Sensors
The interior lamp unit sensors are locatedin the overhead console.
Note:Do not cover up the interior lamp unitsensors.
The sensors act as a deterrent againstunauthorized access by sensing anymovement within your vehicle.
Battery Back-up Sounder
The battery back-up sounder is anadditional alarm system, which sounds asiren if your vehicle battery or the batteryback-up sounder is disconnected. Whenyou lock your vehicle the system is armed.The sounder has its own battery and willsound an alarm siren even if someonedisconnects your vehicle battery or thebattery back-up sounder itself.
Triggering the Alarm
Once armed, the alarm is triggered in anyof the following ways:
•If someone opens a door, the liftgateor the hood without a valid key orremote control.
•If someone removes the audio ornavigation system.
•If you switch your vehicle on without acorrectly coded key.
•If the interior sensors detect movementwithin your vehicle.
•On vehicles with a battery back-upsounder, if someone disconnects yourvehicle battery or the battery back-upsounder itself.
If the alarm is triggered, the alarm horn willsound for 30 seconds and the hazardwarning flasher will flash for five minutes.
Any further attempts to perform one of theabove sounds the alarm again.
Full and Reduced Guard
Full Guard
Full guard is the standard setting.
In full guard, the interior sensors are onwhen you arm the alarm.
Reduced Guard
In reduced guard, the interior sensors areoff when you arm the alarm.
