Some indicators lights in the disp lay can turn
on in several colors.
A WARNING
- Failure to heed warning lights and other
important vehicle information may result
in serious personal injury or vehicle dam­
age.
- Whenever stalled or stopped for repair,
move the vehicle a safe distance off the
road, stop the engine, and turn on the
emergency flasher¢ page 47.
- The engine compartment of any motor
vehicle is a potentially hazardous area.
Before you check anything in the engine
compartment, stop the engine and let it
cool down. Always exerc ise extreme cau­
t ion when work ing under the hood

Malfunctions or faults will be identified e i­
ther with a red symbo l (pr iority 1 = Dan ­
ger!) or with a ye llow symbol (priority 2 -
Warning).
Overview
Some ind icator lights turn on briefly to check
the function of that system when you switch
the ign ition on . These systems are marked
with an../ in the follow ing tables . If one of
these ind icator lights does not turn on, there
is a malfunction in that system.
Red indicator lights
Red symbols indicate a priority malfunction -

- Pull off the road .
- Stop the vehicle .
- T urn off the engine.
- Check the malfunctioning system. Contact

workshop for assistance.

BRAKE /((f) ) Brake system
The light illuminates when the ignition is
switched on .
It goes out afte r the engine has
been started . This indicates that the brake
warning light is functioning properly.
If the brake warning light does not light up
when the engine is cranking, there may be a
malfunction in the electrical system . In this
case, contact your Audi dealer.
If the brake system warn ing/indicator light
turns on, there is a brake system ma lfunction.

Stop vehicle and check brake fluid level
If the indicator light turns on and the mes­
sage appears, proceed as follows:

- Never rely exclusively on the outside
temperature display to determine if a
road surface is icy or not. Keep in mind
that road surfaces, especially bridges
and overpasses, could be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside temperature
above 41 °F
(+5 °() .
- Always remember, even if the "snow­
flake" symbol (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the d isplay, black ice could be on
the road .
- Always reduce your speed and drive with special care in cold weather cond itions
when the chance of encountering icy
road surfaces increases.
(D Tips
-At temperatures below 14 °F (+ 5 °C) a
snowf lake symbol appears ahead of the
temperature display. It is intended to re­
m ind the driver to pay special attention
to
ice on the road c::> ,&. If the vehicle is
stationary, or if you are driving at a very
low speed, the temperature shown in the
display might be slightly higher than the
actual outs ide temperature. This is .,.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. A mechanical key is integrat­
ed in the remote control key¢
page 32.
® Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for con­
stant use.
It should only be used in an emer­
gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not carry
it on your key ring .
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi
dealer immed iately to have the
lost key disa­
bled. Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Personal comfort settings
If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recom­
mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key. When the ignition is switch­
ed
off or when the vehicle is locked, personal
conven ience settings for the following sys­
tems are stored and ass igned to the remote
master key.
- Automatic climate control
- Central locking system
- Rear window sun blind
- Amb ient lighting
- Seat memory
- Parking system*

The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or when you switch the ignition on.
A WARNING
---Do not leave your vehicle unattended. Al-
ways take your ignition key with you and
lock your vehicle . Entry by unauthorized
persons could endanger you or result in
theft or damage the vehicle.
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportun ity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows, etc.
Unsupervised operation of any vehicle
system by children can result in serious
injury.
(!} Tips
- Th e operation of the remote control key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transm itters in the vic inity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen­
cy range (e.g. a cell phone, radio equip­
ment).
- For security reasons, replacement keys
are only ava ilable from Audi dealers.
- For Declaration of Compliance to United States FCC and Industry Canada regula­

If you switch the system off during a stop
phase, the engine will start again auto­
mat ically.
Messages in the instrument cluster
display
App lies to vehicles: with Start -Stop-System
Start-Stop system deactivated: Please re­
start engine manually
This message appears when specific condi­
tions are not met dur ing a stop phase and the
Start-Stop-System will
not be able to restart
the engine.
If the Dor R selector lever posi ­
tions were engaged, P will be selected auto­
matica lly. The engine must be sta rted with
the
! S TAR T ENGINE ST OPI button.
Start-Stop system: System fault! Function
unavailable
There is a malfunct ion in the Start-Stop-Sys­
tem . Dr ive the veh icle to an authorized repair
fac ility for servicing as soon as possible to cor­
r ect the malfunction.
Speed warning system
Introduction
The speed warning system helps you to stay
under a specified maximum speed.
The speed warning system warns you if you
are exceeding the maximum speed that you
have set. You will hear a warning tone when
your speed exceeds the stored value by ap­ prox imately 3 mph (3 km/h) . An indicator
light . (USA models)/ . (Canada models) in
the instrument cluster display also turns on at
the same time . The indicator light ••
turns off when the speed decreases below the
stored maximum speed.
Sett ing a thresho ld is recommended if you
wou ld like to be reminded when you reach a
cer tain maximum speed. Situations where you
may want to do so include driving in a country

with a general speed limit or if there is a
specified max imum speed for winter tires .
@ Tips
Even though your vehicle is eq uipp ed w ith
a speed warning system, you should still
watch the speedometer to make sure you
are not dr iv ing faster than the speed limit.
Setting the threshold
You can set, change and delete the threshold
in the MMI.
.. Select: !CAR I function button> Car systems
cont rol button > Driver assist > Speed warn·
ing .
You can set any threshold between 20 mph
(30 km/h) and 150 mph (240 km/h) . Sett ings
can each be ad justed in increments of 5 mph
(10 km/h).
Cruise control
Switching on
The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph (30 km/h) .

• Drive at the speed you wish to set .
• Press button @to set that speed.

The speed is kept constant via an engine o ut­
p ut adjustment or act ive brake intervention .
A WARNING
-Always pay attention to traffic even when
the cruise control is switched on . You are
always responsible for your speed and
the distance between your vehicle and other vehicles.
- For safety reasons, the cruise control
should not be used in the city, in stop­
and-go t raff ic, on twist ing roads and
when ro ad conditions are poor (such as
ice , fog, grave l, heavy rain and hydro­
planing) -risk of accident.
- T urn off the cruise control tempor aril y
when entering turn lanes, highway exit lanes or in construction zones.
- Please note tha t inadvertent ly "rest ing"
yo ur foot on the accelerator peda l causes
the cruise control not to brake. This is
because the cr uise control is overridden
by t he driver 's acce lerat ion.
- If a brake system malfunction such as
overheat ing occurs when the cru ise con­
tro l system is sw itched on, the braking
function in the system may be switched
off . The other cruise control functions re­
ma in active as long as t he indicator light
[ij;rn~i~ (US models) Iii.I (Canad ian mod­
els) is on.
(D Tips
The b rake lights illuminate as soon as the
brakes decelerate automat ica lly.
Changing speed
• To increase/decrease the speed in inc re ­
men ts, tap the lever in the
0 10 direction
¢ page 91, fig. 91 .
• To increase/decrease the speed quick ly, hold
the lever in the
0 10 direction until the de ­
sired speed is displayed.
You can also press the accelerator pedal down
to increase yo ur speed, e.g . if you want to
pass someone . The speed you saved earlier
will res ume as soon as you release the acce ler­
ator pedal.
If, however, you exceed your saved speed by
6 mph (10 km/h) for longer than 5 minutes,
the cr uise control w ill turn off temporari ly.
The green symbol
[ij;(l)~i~ (US mode ls) ,ii in
the d isplay is replaced with a white symbol.
T he saved speed remains the same .
Presetting your speed
You can preset your desired speed while the
vehicle is not moving.
• Switch on the ign ition.
• Pull lever into position

• Press the lever in t he 0 o r 0 direction to
increase or decrease your speed .
• Release t he lever to save that speed .
Th is function makes it possib le, for examp le,
to save the speed you want before dr iv ing on
the highway. Once on the h ighway, act ivate
the cr uise con trol by pulling the leve r toward
CD -
