Parking n ext to obstacles
When the re is an obs ta cl e (such as a wall)
nex t to the pa rk ing space, choose a space with
more space on the sides. Position the long
side of the b lue area so that there is sufficient
space from the curb. The area must not be on
the curb. You w ill also need to start turning
the steering wheel much earlier . There should
be a suffic ient amount of space between the
curb and the b lue c urve, and the blue curve
¢ page 126, fig. 137 must not touch the cu rb.

The left or right orientation li nes and sur­

Error messages

There is an error in the system if the LED in
the
P •1A b utton is blinking and you hear a con- t
in uous alarm for a few seconds after switch ­
ing on the parking system or when the park­
ing system is already activated. If the error is
not corrected before you switch off the ign i­
t ion, the LED in the
P' "A button will blink the
next t ime you sw itch on the parking system by
shifting into reverse .
If a sensor is faulty, the!¾ symbol will appear
in front of/behind the vehicle in the Infota in­
ment display . If a rear sensor is faulty, only
obstacles that are in the front detection a rea
are shown . If a front sensor is fau lty, on ly ob­
stacles that are in the rear area are shown.
Peripheral cameras*
There is also a system error if:
- the
'(l.Q ,, symbol appears i n the display and
the corresponding display area is shown in
blue. The camera is not work ing in this area.
- all segments around the vehicles are red or
if no segments are displayed.
Drive to your authorized A udi dealer or au­
thorized repair facility immediately to have
the malfunction corrected .
Trailer hitch
Applies to vehicles: with adva nced parking sys te m with
rear view camera/top view camera system
For vehicles us ing the trailer socket, the park­
ing system rear sensors do not turn on when
yo u shift into reverse gear or when you press
the
P 1JA button. This results in the following re­
strictions:
T he re is no distance warning for the rear. The
front sensors remain activated. The visua l dis­
play switches to the trailer towing mode . The
rear view camera image will not show the ori ­
entation lines and the blue surfaces.
(D Tips
Trailer hitches that are not installed at the
factory may ca use the parking system to
malfunction or they may restrict its func­
tion.

Programming a button
T he re quired di sta nce between the hand he ld
t ransmit ter and the Homel ink modu le in t he
bumpe r depe nds on the system that you are
programming . When programm ing a new de­
vice, keep the b utton pressed for at least 15
seconds before trying aga in with the transm it­
te r in a diffe rent position .
Each of the b uttons can be reprogrammed in­
dividua lly . The p rocedure is the same as for in­
it ial programm ing .

Erasing the button programming
Individual b uttons ca n be re programmed . Fol­
l ow the same steps used when first program­
ming the button.
If you wo uld like to erase all prog rammed but ­
tons at the same time, select Erase butto n

A lways remember, a chi ld seat or infant carr i­
e r i nsta lled on the front seat may be struck
and knocked out of position by the rapidly in ­
flating passenger's airbag in a frontal colli­
sion. The airbag could greatly reduce the ef­
fectiveness of the chi ld restraint and even se­
riously injure the child during inflat ion.
F or this reason, and because the back seat is
the safest p lace for chi ldren -when properly
restra ined accord ing to their age and si ze -we
strongly recommend that children always sit
in the back seat

A WARNING
A child in a rearward-facing child seat in­
stalled on the front passenger seat will be
ser iously injured and can be killed if the
front airbag inflates -even with an Ad­
vanced Airbag System.
- The inflating a irbag will hit the child seat
or infant carrier w ith great force and w ill
smash the ch ild seat and child against
the backrest, center armrest, door or
roof .
- Always install rear -facing child seats on
the rear seat .
- If you must install a rearward facing
child seat on the f ront passenge r seat
because of except iona l circumstances
and the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light
does not come on and stay on, immedi­
ately i nstall the rear-facing chi ld seat in a
rear seating position and have the airbag
system inspected by your Aud i dealer .
- Forward-fac ing ch ild seats installed on
the front passenger's seat may interfere
with the deployment of the airbag and c ause se rious pe rsonal injury to the
c hild.
A WARNING
If, in exceptional c ircumstances, you mus t
install a forwa rd-facing child restra int on
the front passenger's seat: -
Always make sure the forward-facing
seat has been designed and certified by
its manufacturer for use on a front seat
with a passenger front and s ide a irbag .
- Never put the forward-facing child re­
straint up against or very near the instru­ ment panel.
- Always move the passenger seat into its
rearmost pos ition in the seat's fore a nd
aft adjustment range, as fa r away from
the airbag as possible before installing
the forwa rd-fa cing ch ild restra int. The
b ackrest mus t be ad justed to an up right
position.
- Make sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF
li ght comes on and stays o n all the
time wheneve r the ignition is switched
on.
A WARNING -ra----
To reduce the risk of serious injury, make
sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light will be displayed whenever a child re­
straint is installed on the front passenger
seat and the ignition is sw itched on.
- If the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light
does not stay on, perform the checks de­
scribed

in the instrument cluster display . Th is is to in­
form the driver of the current front passenger
a irbag status .
Important safety instructions on
monitoring the Advanced Airbag System
A WARNING
An airbag system that is not functioning
properly cannot provide supplemental pro­
tect ion in a frontal crash.
- If the airbag indicator light

comes when the vehicle is be ing used,
have t he system inspected immediate ly
by you r authorized Aud i dea le r.
It is pos­
s ible that the a irbag will inflate when it
is not s upposed to, or w ill not inflate
w hen it sho uld.
A WARNING
If the front air bag infla tes, a c hild wi tho ut
a chil d restra int, or in a rearward-fac ing
child safety seat, or in a forward-facing
child rest raint that has not been prope rly
installed will be serious ly injured and can
be killed.
- Even though your ve hicle is equipped
with an Advanced Airbag System, make certain that all children, especially 12
years and younger, a lways ride on the
back seat properly restra ined fo r the ir
age and size .
- Always insta ll forward or rea r-facing
child seats on the rea r seat -even w ith
an Advanced Airbag System.
- If you must install a rearward-fac ing
child seat on the front passenge r seat
because of except io na l circumstances
and the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF ligh t
does not appe ar and stay on, imme diate- ly insta
ll the rear-facing child seat in a
rear seat ing pos ition and have the airbag
system inspected by your Audi dealer.
- A t ight tether or other strap on a rear­
ward-facing child restraint attached to
the front passenger seat can put too
much p ressu re on the weight-sensing
mat in the seat and reg iste r mor e we ight
than is actually on the seat. The heavie r
weight regis tered can make the sys tem
wo rk as though an adult we re on the seat
and deploy the Advanced Airbag when it
m ust be suppressed causing serious or
even fata l injury to t he chi ld .
- If, in exceptiona l circumstances, you
m ust install a forward-facing c hild re­
straint on the front passenger seat, al ­
ways move the seat into its rearmost po­ sition in the seat's fore and aft ad just­
ment range, as far away from the a irbag
as poss ible. The backrest mus t be ad just­
ed to an upright pos ition. Make su re that
the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light
comes on and st ays o n all the time when ­
eve r the ignit ion is swit ched on .
A WARNING
- If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light
does not go o ut when an a dult is sitting
on the front passenger seat after taking
the steps described above, make sure the
adu lt is properly seated and restra ined at
one of the rear seat ing pos itions.
- Have the airbag system inspected by
your Aud i dealer before transporting
a nyo ne on the front passenger seat .
(D Tips
If the weight-sensing mat in the front pas­
senger seat detects an empty seat, the
front airbag on the passenger side will be
turned off, and the
PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF
light will stay on.
