The transmission temperature has increased

Drive in a less sporty manner unt il the tem ­

DI Transmiss ion malfunct ion: You can con­
tinue driving
There is a system ma lf u nction in the transmis­
sion. You may continue driving. Drive to your
author ized Audi dealer or qualified repair fa­
cility soon to have the malfunction corrected.
DI Transmission malfunction: Limited driv­
ing funct ionality
There is a system ma lf u nction in the transmis ­
sion. The transmission is switching to emer­
gency mode. Th is mode only shifts into cer­
tain gears or will no longer shift at a ll. The en- gine may sta
ll. Drive to your a uthorized Audi
dealer or qualified repair facility immediately
to have the mal function cor rected .
[O] lit Transmis sion malfunction : No reverse
You can continue driving
S t roni c tra nsmission: The re is a system mal­
f unc tion in the transm ission. The t ransmis ­
s io n is swi tching to emerge ncy mode. This
mode only shifts into ce rtain gea rs or will no
l o nger shift at a ll. The engine may stall. You
cannot engage the reverse gear . Dr ive to your
autho riz ed Aud i dea ler or qualified repa ir fa­
c ili ty immediately to have the malfunction
cor rected .
DI Transmission malfunction: Stop vehicle
and shift to park.
Do not continue dr iving. Se lect the P selector
lever positio n and see your authorized A udi
dealer or qualif ied repai r facility for assis ­
tance.

Braking guard uses a radar sensor. It a lso

What can Audi braking guard do?
When detected in time, the system can assess
s ituations when a vehicle ahea d brakes s ud­
denly o r if your own vehicle is traveling at a
high speed and approach ing a vehicle up
ahead that is moving mo re slowly . Braking
guard does not react if it cannot detec t the
s ituation .
The system advises you of var ious situations:
- The
distance warning is given if yo u are too
close to the vehicle ahead for a long time. If
the vehicle ahead brakes sharp ly , yo u will
not be ab le to avoid a collision . The indicator
light . in the display comes on .
- The
approach warning is given when a de­
tected vehicle up ahead in your lane is mov­
ing m uch more slowly than yo u are or if it
brakes s harply . When t his war ning is given,
it may o nly be poss ibl e to avo id a co llision
by swe rv in g or b ra ki ng s harp ly. The indica tor

We recommend that you p ractice park ing with
the rear view camera in a traffic -free location
or parking lot to become familiar with the sys ­
tem, the orientation lines, and their function.
When doing th is, there shou ld be good light
and weather conditions.
In the MMI disp lay, objects or vehicles appear
closer or further away if:
- you are d riving in reverse gear from a level
surface onto an incline, or a downward
s lope,
- you are driving in reverse gear toward pro ­
truding objects,
- the vehicle is carrying too much load in the
rear .
The accu racy of the orienta tion lines and b lue
surfaces dimin ishes if:
- the rear view camera does not provide a rel i­
able image, for examp le, in poor visibility
condit ions or if the lens is dirty,
- the image on the screen is not visible due to
sun glare and reflect ion.

The rear view camera is located above the rear

- Dampen the lens with a househo ld alcohol­
based glass cleaner, and clean the lens with

- Remove snow with a hand brush and ice
preferably with a de -icing spray ¢(D .

-The parking aid cannot replace the driv­
er's attent ion. The dr iver alone is respon­
sible for parking and s imilar driving ma­
neuvers.
-Always keep your eyes on the vehicle 's
sur roundings, us ing the rea r view m irror

- Do not allow yourself to be distracted
from traffic by the rea r view came ra p ic­
tures.
- If the position and t he installation angle
of the camera has c hanged, for e xample,
after a rear end co llision, do not conti nue
to use the system for safety reasons .

detec tion range as they are app roached

- Never use warm or hot water to remove
snow or ice from the rear view came ra

The rear view camera switches on automati ­
cally together with the acoustic pork assist when you put the vehicle in reverse .

Homelink
Universal remote
control
Description
Applies to vehicles: with Home link
The HomeLink universal remote control can
be programmed with the remote control for
devices that are already present.
With Home Link, you can control devices such
as the garage door, security systems, house
lights , etc. comfortably from the inside of you
vehicle.
Homelink makes it possible for you to rep lace
three different remote controls from dev ices
in your home with one universal remote. This
feature works for most garage door and exte­
rior door motor signals. Programming the in­
dividual remote control for your remote con ­
trol takes place near the center of the radiator
grille. There is a control module attached at
this location .
A one-time programming of the sensor must be performed before you are able to use sys­
tems with Homelink. If the system does not activate after performing the one-time pro­
gramming, check whether the system uses a rolling coder:!.>
page 118 for vehicles without
the
MMI*.
,& WARNING
-
- Never use the Homelink transmitter
with any garage door opener that does
have not the safety stop and reverse fea­
ture as requ ired by federa l safety stand­
ards. This includes any garage door open­
er model manufactured before April 1,
1982.
-A garage door opener which cannot de­
tect an object, signaling the door to stop
and reverse does not meet current feder­
al safety standards . Using a garage door
opener without these features increases
risk of serious injury or death.
Homelink 115
- For safety reasons never release the
parking brake or start the engine while
anyone is standing in front of the vehicle .
- A garage door or an estate gate may
sometimes be set in motion when the
Homelink remote control is being pro­
grammed. If the device is repeatedly ac­
tivated, th is can overstrain motor and
damage its electrical components - an
overheated mo tor is a fire hazard!
- To avoid possib le injuries or property
damage, please always make abso lutely
certa in that no persons or objects are lo­
cated in the range of motion of any
equipment being operated.

tips, instructions and warnings that you need
to read and observe for your own safety, the
safety of your passengers and others . We have
summarized here what you need to know
about safety belts, airbags, child restraints as
well as child safety. Your safety is for us

ty number 1.
Always observe the information
and warnings in this section - for your own
safety as well as that of your passengers.
The information in this section applies to all
model versions of your vehicle . Some of the
features described in this sections may be
standard equipment on some models, or may
be optional equipment on others. If you are
not sure, ask your authorized Audi dealer.
A WARNING
- Always make sure that you follow the in­
structions and heed the WARNINGS in
this Manual. It is in your interest and in
the interest of your passengers.
- Always keep the complete Owner's Liter­
ature in your Audi when you lend or sell
your vehicle so that this important infor­
mation will always be available to the
driver and passengers.
- Always keep the Owner's literature handy
so that you can find it easily if you have
questions.
Safety equipment
The safety features are part of the occupant
restraint system and work together to help
reduce the risk of injury in a wide variety of
accident situations .
Your safety and the safety of your passengers
should not be left to chance. Advances in
technology have made a variety of features
available to help reduce the risk of injury in an

accident. The following is a list of just a few of
the safety features in your Audi :
- sophisticated safety belts for driver and all
passenger seating positions,
- belt force limiters for the front seats,
- belt pretensioners for the seats,
- head restraints for each seating position,
- front airbags,
- side airbags in the front seats,
- side curtain airbags ,
- special LATCH anchorages for child re-
straints,
- adjustable steering column.
These individual safety features, can work to­
gether as a system to help protect you and
your passengers in a wide range of accidents.
These features cannot work as a system if
they are not always correctly adjusted and cor­
rectly used.
Safety is everybody's responsibility!
Important things to do before driving
Safety is everybody's job! Vehicle and occu­
pant safety always depends on the informed and careful driver.
For your safety and the safety of your passen­
gers,
before driving always:
"'Make sure that all lights and signals are op­
erating correctly .
"' Make sure that the tire pressure is correct.
"'Make sure that all windows are clean and af­
ford good visibility to the outside.
"'Secure all luggage and other items carefully

What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condi­
tion of the vehicle, the driver as well as the
driver's ability to concentrate on the road
without being distracted .
The driver is responsible for the safety of the
vehicle and all of its occupants . If your ability
to drive is impa ired, safety r isks for everybody
in the vehicle increase and you also become a
hazard to everyone else on the road

Therefore:
• Do not let yourself be distracted by passen­
gers or by us ing a cellular telephone.
• NEV ER dr ive when your dr iv in g ability is im­
paired (by medicat ions, alcohol, drugs, etc.).
• Observe all traffic laws, rules of the road
and speed limits and plain common sense.
• ALWAYS adjust your speed to road, traffic
and weather conditions .
• Take frequent breaks on long trips. Do not
drive for more than two hours at a stretch.
> Do NOT drive when you are t ired, under
pressure or when you are stressed .
A WARNING
Impaired driving safety increases the risk
of serious personal injury and death when­
ever a veh icle is being used.

Proper seating position for the driver
The proper driver seating position is impor­
tant for safe, relaxed driving.

For your own safety and to reduce the risk of
injury in the event of an accident, we recom­
mend that you adjust the driver's seat to the
following position:
• Adjust the driver's seat so that you can easi­
ly push the pedals all the way to the floor
while keeping your knee(s) slightly bent

• Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is
in an upr ight position so that your back
comes in full contact with it when you drive.
• Adj ust the steering wheel so that there is a
distance of at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­
tween the steering wheel and your breast

• Adjust the steering wheel so that the steer­
ing wheel and airbag cover points at your
chest and not at your face .
• Grasp the top of the steer ing wheel with
your elbow(s) slightly bent.

straints: Adjust the head restraint so the up­
per edge is as even as possible with the top
of your head. If that is not possible, try to
adjust the head restraint so that it is as
close to this posit ion as possible.
