Opening the fuel tank cap
Close all the doors and windows, and turn the power switch off.
Confirm the type of fuel.
Fuel types
EU area:
Unleaded gasoline conforming to European standard EN228, Research Octane
Number of 95 or higher
Except EU area:
Unleaded gasoline, Research octane number 95 or higher
Use of ethanol blended gasoline in a gasoline engine
Lexus allows the use of ethanol blended gasoline where the ethanol content is up
to 10%. Make sure that the ethanol blended gasoline to be used has a Research
Octane Number that follows the above.
Perform the following steps to open the fuel tank cap:

If the hybrid system will not start
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
The electronic key may not be functioning properly.* (P. 622)
There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle. (P. 8 3 )
There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system.* (P. 8 7 )
There may be a malfunction in the P position control system.*

The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical problem
such as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. However,
depending on the type of malfunction, an interim measure is available
to start the hybrid system. (P. 621)
*: It may not be possible to shift the shift position other than P.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (P. 624)
The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
(P. 504)
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on the situa-
tion. Check the following and perform the appropriate procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting
procedure is being followed. (P. 196)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not
sound or sounds at a low volume.
