Maintenance requirements
Scheduled maintenance should be performed at specified intervals
according to the maintenance schedule.
For full details of your maintenance schedule, refer to the “Lexus Service
Booklet” or “Lexus Warranty Booklet”.
What about do-it-yourself maintenance?
Many maintenance items are easy to do yourself if you have a little mechani-
cal ability and a few basic automotive tools.
Note, however, that some maintenance tasks require special tools and skills.
These are best performed by qualified technicians. Even if you’re an experi-
enced do-it-yourself mechanic, we recommend that repairs and maintenance
be conducted by any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qual-
ified and equipped professional. Any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer will
keep a record of maintenance, which could be useful should you ever require
Warranty Service. Should you choose to select a qualified and equipped pro-
fessional other than an authorized Lexus repairer to service or maintain your
vehicle, we recommend that you request that a record of maintenance be kept.
To ensure safe and economical driving, day-to-day care and regular
maintenance are essential. Lexus recommends the following mainte-
nance:

The engine compartment contains many mechanisms and fluids that may move
suddenly, become hot, or become electrically energized. To avoid death or seri-
ous injury, observe the following precautions.
When working on the engine compartment
Make sure that the indicator on the power switch and the “READY” indicator
are both off.
Keep hands, clothing and tools away from the moving fan.
Be careful not to touch the engine, power control unit, radiator, exhaust mani-
fold, etc. right after driving as they may be hot. Oil and other fluids may also
be hot.
Do not leave anything that may burn easily, such as paper and rags, in the
engine compartment.
Do not smoke, cause sparks or expose an open flame to fuel. Fuel fumes are
flammable.
Take care because brake fluid can harm your hands or eyes and damage
painted surfaces. If fluid gets on your hands or in your eyes, flush the affected
area with clean water immediately. If you still experience discomfort, consult
a doctor.
When working near the electric cooling fans or radiator grille
Be sure the power switch is off.
With the power switch in ON mode, the electric cooling fans may automati-
cally start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or the coolant temperature is
high. (P. 502)
Safety glasses
Wear safety glasses to prevent flying or falling material, fluid spray, etc. from
getting in your eyes.
NOTICE
If you remove the air cleaner filter
Driving with the air cleaner filter removed may cause excessive engine wear
due to dirt in the air.
If the fluid level is low or high
It is normal for the brake fluid level to go down slightly as the brake pads wear
or when the fluid level in the accumulator is high.
If the reservoir needs frequent refilling, it may indicate a serious problem.

With the engine at operating temperature and turned off, check the oil
level on the dipstick.
Checking the engine oil
Park the vehicle on level ground. After warming up the engine and
turning off the hybrid system, wait more than 5 minutes for the oil to
drain back into the bottom of the engine.
Holding a rag under the end,
pull the dipstick out.
Wipe the dipstick clean.
Flat dipstick: Reinsert the dipstick fully.
Non-flat dipstick: Reinsert the
dipstick fully with its protrud-
ing areas ( in the illustra-
tion) pointing towards engine.

Check the radiator and condenser and clear away any foreign objects.
If either of the above parts is extremely dirty or you are not sure of their
condition, have your vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
WA R N I N G
When the hybrid system is hot
Do not remove the engine/power control unit coolant reservoir caps.
The cooling system may be under pressure and may spray hot coolant if the cap
is removed, causing serious injuries, such as burns.
NOTICE
When adding coolant
Coolant is neither plain water nor straight antifreeze. The correct mixture of
water and antifreeze must be used to provide proper lubrication, corrosion pro-
tection and cooling. Be sure to read the antifreeze or coolant label.
If you spill coolant
Be sure to wash it off with water to prevent it from damaging parts or paint.
Radiator and condenser
WA R N I N G
When the hybrid system is hot
Do not touch the radiator or condenser as they may be hot and cause serious
injuries, such as burns.
When the electric cooling fans are operating
Do not touch the engine compartment.
The electric cooling fans may keep rotating for about 3 minutes even after the
power switch is off.
With the power switch in ON mode, the electric cooling fans may automati-
cally start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or the coolant temperature is
high. Be sure the power switch is off when working near the electric cooling
fans or radiator grille.

Maintenance and care
Use a CR1632 lithium battery
Batteries can be purchased at any authorized Lexus dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional, local electrical appliance
shops or camera stores.
Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufac-
turer.
Dispose of used batteries according to the local laws.
When the card key battery needs to be replaced (if equipped)
The battery for the card key is available only at Lexus dealers. any authorized
Lexus dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional can
replace the battery for you.
If the electronic key battery is depleted
The following symptoms may occur:
The smart entry & start system and wireless remote control will not function
properly.
The operational range will be reduced.

Removed battery and other parts
These parts are small and if swallowed by a child, they can cause choking.
Keep away from children. Failure to do so could result in death or serious
injury.
Certification for the smart entry & start system
RISK OF EXPLOSION IF BATTERY IS REPLACED BY AN INCORRECT
TYPE.
DISPOSE OF USED BATTERIES ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS.
NOTICE
For normal operation after replacing the battery
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents:
Always work with dry hands.
Moisture may cause the battery to rust.
Do not touch or move any other component inside the remote control.
Do not bend either of the battery terminals.

Install the visor cover on the
mirror frame, secure it with a
screw, and install the side turn
signal light and outer foot
light.
Use only the screw position
shown in the illustration.
Side turn signal light: Align the
tabs on the light and the cover and
install.
Outer foot light: Interlock the tabs
in the groove of the light body
with those on the cover, and
secure.
Disconnect the tabs, and sepa-
rate the top and bottom of the
rear side cover of the mirror.

When trouble arises
If you think something is wrong
Fluid leaks under the vehicle
(Water dripping from the air conditioning after use is normal.)
Flat-looking tires or uneven tire wear
High coolant temperature warning light flashes or comes on
Changes in exhaust sound
Excessive tire squeal when cornering
Strange noises related to the suspension system
Pinging or other noises related to the hybrid system
Engine missing, stumbling or running roughly
Appreciable loss of power
Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when braking
Vehicle pulls heavily to one side when driving on a level road
Loss of brake effectiveness, spongy feeling, pedal almost touches the
floor
If you notice any of the following symptoms, your vehicle probably
needs adjustment or repair. Contact any authorized Lexus dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional as soon as
possible.

Slip indicator light
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The VSC system;
• The TRC system; or
• The hill-start assist control system
The light will flash when the above systems and/or ABS are
operating.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional immediately.
(If equipped)
Automatic headlight leveling system warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the automatic headlight leveling
system
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional immediately.
High coolant temperature warning light
Changes from a flashing to a solid light when the engine
coolant temperature increases
Stop and check. (P. 629)
Open door warning light (warning buzzer)*2
Indicates that a door is not fully closed
Check that all the doors are closed.
Low fuel level warning light
Indicates that remaining fuel is approximately 6.8 L (1.8
gal., 1.5 Imp.gal.) or less
Refuel the vehicle.
Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt reminder light (warn-
ing buzzer)

Warns the driver and/or front passenger to fasten their seat
belts
Fasten the seat belt.
If the front passenger’s seat is occupied, the front passen-
ger’s seat belt also needs to be fastened to make the warning
light (warning buzzer) turn off.
Rear passengers’ seat belt reminder lights (warning buzzer)*4
Warns the rear passengers to fasten their seat belts in the fol-
lowing situations:
• A rear door is opened and closed.

• A rear passenger fastens their seat belt and then unfastens
it.
Fasten the seat belt.
