In order to be effective, a seat belt must:
- be tightened as close to the body as possible,
- be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking that it does not
twist,
- be used to restrain only one person,
- not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- not be converted or modified to avoid affecting its performance.
In accordance with current safety regulations, for all repairs on your vehicle, go to a qualified workshop with the skills and equipment needed, which a CITROËN dealer is able to provide.
Have your seat belts checked regularly by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop, particularly if the straps show signs of damage. Clean the seat belt straps with soapywater or a textile cleaning product, sold byCITROËN dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear bench seat, ensure that the seat belt is positioned and reeled in correctly.
Recommendations for children
Use a suitable child seat if the passenger is less than 12 years old or shor ter than oneand a half metres.
Never use the same seat belt to secure more than one person.
Never allow a child to travel on your lap.
In the event of an impact
Depending on the nature and seriousness of the impact
, the pretensioning device maybe deployed before and independently of the airbags. Deployment of the pretensionersis accompanied by a slight discharge of harmless smoke and a noise, due to the activation of the pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated in the system.
In all cases, the airbag warning lamp comeson.
Following an impact, have the seat beltssystem checked, and if necessary replaced, by a CITROËN dealer or a qualifiedworkshop.
The driver must ensure that passengers usethe seat belts correctly and that they are allrestrained securely before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the vehicle, always fasten your seat belt, even for shor t
journeys.
Do not interchange the seat belt buckles as they will not fulfil their role fully.
The seat belts are fitted with an inertia reel permitting automatic adjustment of the lengthof the strap to your size. The seat belt isstowed automatically when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the seatbelt is reeled in correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be positioned as low as possible on the pelvis.
The upper par t must be positioned in the hollow of the shoulder.
The inertia reels are fitted with an automatic locking device which comes into operation inthe event of a collision, emergency braking or if the vehicle rolls over. You can release the device by pulling firmly on the strap and releasing it so that it reels in slightly.

Airbags
Front airbags
System which protects the driver and front
passenger in the event of a serious front impact
in order to limit the risk of injury to the head andchest.
The driver's airbag is fitted in the centre of the steering wheel; the front passenger's airbag isfitted in the dashboard above the glove box.
Deployment
The airbags are deployed, except for the
passenger's front airbag if it is deactivated,
in the event of a serious front impact applied
to all or par t of the front impact zone A
, in
the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle on a
horizontal plane and directed from the front to
th
e rear of the vehicle.
The front airbag inflates between the frontoccupant of the vehicle and the dashboard to cushion their forward movement.
Impact detection zones
A.
Front impact zone.B.
Side impact zone.
S
ystem designed to maximise the safety of the
occupants (with the exception of the rear centrepassenger) in the event of violent collisions.
The airbags supplement the action of the force-
limitin
g seat belts (with the exception of the rear centre passenger).
If a collision occurs, the electronic detectors
record and analyse the front and side impacts sustained in the impact detection zones:
- in the case of a serious impact, the airbagsare deployed instantly and contribute
towards better protection of the occupants
o
f the vehicle (with the exception of the rear centre passenger); immediately after the
impact, the airbags deflate rapidly so that
they do not hinder visibility or the exit of the
occupants,
- in the case of a minor or rear impact
or in cer tain roll-over conditions, the
airbags will not be deployed; the seat beltalone contributes towards ensuring your protection in these situations.
The airbags do not operate when the ignition is switched off.
This equipment will only deploy once. If a second impact occurs (during thesame or a subsequent accident), the airbag will not be deployed again.
Deployment of the airbag(s) is accompanied by a slight emission of smoke and a noise, due to theactivation of the pyrotechnic cartridgeincorporated in the system. This smoke is not harmful, but sensitiveindividuals may experience slight irritation. The noise of the detonation may resultin a slight loss of hearing for a shorttime.

Operating fault
If this warning lamp comes on in the
instrument panel, accompanied by
an audible warnin
g and a message
in the multifunction screen, contact
a CITROËN dealer or a qualified
workshop to have the system checked. The airbags may no longer be deployed
in the event of a serious impact.
Reactivation
When you remove the rear wards-facing child
seat, turn switch 1to the "ON"
position toreactivate the airbag and so assure the safety
of your front passenger in the event of an
impact.
With the ignition on, this warning lampcomes on in the instrument panel
or in the seat belt and passenger's front airbag warning lamp displayfor approximately one minute, if thepassenger's front airbag is activated. According to version, this warning lamp comes on either in the
instrument panel or on the seat belt
and passen
ger's front airbag warninglamp display when the ignition is on
and until the airbag is reactivated. If this warnin
g lamp flashes, contact
a CITROËN dealer or a qualified
workshop. The passenger's front
airbag may no longer be deployed in
the event of a serious impact.
Deactivation
Only the passenger's front airbag can be deactivated: )with the ignition off, inser t the key in thefpassenger airbag deactivation switch 1 , )turn it to the "OFF"position, )then, remove the key keeping the switch in
this position.
To assure the safety of your child, it isimperative that the passenger's front
airbag is deactivated when you install a "rearwards-facing" child seat on thefront passenger seat. Other wise, the child would risk beingseriously injured or killed if the airbag were deployed.
If at least one of the two airbag
warning lamps come on continuously, do not install a child seat on the front passenger seat.
Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Safety
124
Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resting your hands on the centre partof the wheel.Passengers must not place their feet on the dashboard. If possible, do not smoke as deployment of the airbags can cause burns or the risk of injuryfrom a cigarette or pipe. Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently.
Lateral airbags
Use only approved covers on the seats, compatible with the deployment the lateral airbags. For information on the range of seat covers suitable for your vehicle, you can contact aCITROËN dealer.Refer to the "Accessories" section. Do not fix or attach anything to the seat backs (clothing...). This could cause injury to the chestor arms if the lateral airbag is deployed.Do not sit with the upper par t of the body any nearer to the door than necessary.
Curtain airbags
Do not fix or attach anything to the roof. This could cause injury to the head if the cur tainairbag is deployed. If fitted on your vehicle, do not remove the grab handles installed on the roof, they play a par t in securing the curtain airbags.
Do not leave anything between theoccupants and the airbags (a child, pet,object...). This could hamper the operation of the airbags or injure the occupants. After an accident or if the vehicle has beenstolen or broken into, have the airbagsystems checked. All work on the airbag system must be carried out by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Even if all of the precautions mentioned are obser ved, a risk of injury or of minor burns to the head, chest or arms when an airbag is deployed cannot be ruled out. Thebag inflates almost instantly (within a few milliseconds) then deflates within the sametime discharging the hot gas via openings provided for this purpose.
For the airbags to be fully effective, observe the followingsafety rules:
Sit in a normal upright position. Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.

Stop & Start The Stop & Star t system puts the engine temporarily into standby - STOP mode - during stops in the traffic (red lights, traffic jams, or other...). The engine restar ts automatically - START mode - as soon as you want to move off. The restart takes place instantly, quickly and silently.
Per fect for urban use, the Stop & Star t system reduces fuel consumption and exhaust emissions as well as the noise level when stationary.
Operation
Going into engine STOP mode
The "ECO"warning lamp comes
on in the instrument panel and the
engine goes into standby:
- with the 6-speed electronic
gearbox
system, at speeds below 5 mph (8 km/h),
when you press the brake pedal or put thegear lever in position N.
A time counter calculates thesum of the periods in STOP
mode during a journey. It rests
itself to zero every time the
ignition is switched on with thekey.
Special cases: STOP mode not available
STOP mode is not invoked when:
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fastened,
- the vehicle has not exceeded 6 mph(10 km/h) since the last engine start usingthe key,
- the engine is needed to maintain acomfortable temperature in the passenger compartment,
- demisting is active,
- some special conditions (battery charge,
engine temperature, braking assistance, ambient temperature...) where the engine isneeded to assure control of a system.
The "ECO"warning lamp flashes for
a few seconds then goes off.
This operation is per fectly normal.
Never refuel with the engine in STOPmode; you must switch off the ignition with the key.
For your comfor t, during parkingmanoeuvres, STOP mode is not available for a few seconds after coming out of reverse gear.STOP mode does not affect the functionality of the vehicle, such as for example, braking, power steering...

Going into engine START mode
The "ECO"warning lamp goes
off and the engine starts with theelectronic gearboxsystem:
- gear lever in position Aor M
, when yourelease the brake pedal,
- or gear lever in position N
and the brake pedal released, when you move the gear lever to position A
or M,
- or when you engage reverse gear.
Special cases: START invoked automatically
For reasons of safety and for your comfort,START mode is invoked automatically when:
- you open the driver's door,
- you unfasten the driver's seat belt,
- the speed of the vehicle exceeds 7 mph(11 k m/h) with the electronic gearbox system,
- some special conditions (battery charge, engine temperature, braking assistance,
ambient temperature...) where the engine is
needed for control of a system.
Th
e "ECO"
warning lamp flashes for
a
few seconds, then goes off.
This operation is per fectly normal.
Deactivation
At any time, press the "ECO OFF"
switch todeactivate the system.
This is confirmed by the switch warning lamp coming on accompanied by a message in the screen.
If the system has been deactivatedin STOP mode, the engine restar ts immediately.
