Parking system
Applies to vehicles: with pa rking system plus/pa rking sys ­

The parking system may be used for parking
or maneuvering .
Depending on yo ur vehicle's equipment, va ri­

For the parking system (rear , with rear view
c amera ),
the rear acoust ic par k assis t sys tem
i s in tegrated in the rear of t he ve hicl e and the
rear view came ra is integ rated in the rear lid
~ page 110. The parking system ( rear, with
rear view came ra) uses ultrasonic sensors to
determ ine the distance of the vehicle from a
detected obstacle. There are a total of four
se nsors located on the rear bumper (two i n
the m iddle and two on t he sides) .
A WARNING
Make sure the sensors are no t covered by
st icke rs, d eposits or any other obst ruc­
ti on s as i t m ay im pair the sensor function.

Parking system plus
Description
Applies to vehicles: with p ark ing system p lus
Audi parking system plus provides audio and
visual signals when parking.
Sensors are located in the front and rear
b umpers. If these detect an obstacle, visual
and audible s ignals warn you . The range at
which t he sensors beg in to measure is approx­
imately:

Using the segments, you can est imate the dis­
tance to an object i n front of or behind the ve ­
h icle ¢

the vehicle . At the latest the co llision area has
been reached when the next to last segment
is displayed. Do not continue driving farther
forward or in reverse¢ &!

-The parking system cannot rep lace the

- Senso rs and cameras have blind spots in
w hic h peop le and objects can not be de­
t e cte d. Be especially cau tio us of children
and animals .
- Always keep your eyes on the veh icle's
surroun dings, using the re ar view mirro r
as well .
@ Note
L ow obstacles al ready signa led by a warn­
ing can disappear from the system's detec­
tion range as they are app roached and will
no t continue to be signa le d. Objects such
as bar rier cha ins, trailer draw ba rs, thin
painted vertical po les o r fences may not be
detected by the system , posing risk of
damage.

Vehicles with the pa rking system are equipped
with a
rear v iew camera in addit ion to the
acoustic parking system.
You can choose between two modes to assist
yo u w ith parking. For example, you can use
"parking model" when parking in a park ing
space or garage ¢

Sensor s in the bumper
Sensors are located in the rear bumpers. If
these detect an obstacle, audible and visual signals warn you. The range at wh ich the sen­
sors beg in to measure is approximately:
To the side
2 ft (0.60 m)
Center rear 5.2 ft (1.60 m)
Distance warning when reversing starts when
an obstacle is detected in the range of the
parking assist system. As the distance de­
creases, the time interval between the audible
tones becomes shorter.
When the distance is less than 1ft (0.30 m),
the tone becomes continuous. At this point
you should stop backing up.
If the distance to an obstacle stays the same,
the volume of the distance signal chime is
gradually reduced after about 4 seconds (does not affect the continuous s ignal tone). Ap­
proach ing another obstacle w ill cause the dis-

We recommend that you pract ice pa rking with
the rear view camera in a traffic-free location
or parking lot to become familiar with the sys­
tem, the orientation lines, and their function.
When doing this, there should be good light
and weather conditions.
In the MMI display, objects or vehicles appear
closer or further away if:
- you are driving in reverse gear from a level
surface onto an inclin e, or a downward
slope,
- you are driving in reverse gear towa rd pro­
truding objects,
- the vehicle is carrying too mu ch load in the
rear.
The accuracy of the orientation lines and blue
surfaces diminishes if:
- the rear view camera does not provide a reli­
able image, for example, in poor visibility
conditions or if the lens is dirty,
- the image on the screen is not visible due to
sun glare and reflection.
Caring for the rear view camera lens
The rear v iew camera is located above the rear
license plate bracket. For the parking assist to
operate, the lens
¢ fig . 126 must be kept
clean:
- Dampen the lens w ith a household a lcohol­
based glass cleaner, and clean the lens with
a dry cloth

-Remove snow with a hand brush and ice
preferably with a de-icing spray¢()).

-The parking aid cannot replace the driv­
er's attention . The driver alone is respon­
sible for parking and similar driving ma­ neuvers.
- Always keep your eyes on the vehicle's
surroundings, using the rear view mirror
as well.
- Do not allow yourself to be distracted
from traffic by the rear view camera pic­
tures.
- If the position and the installation angle
of the camera has changed, for example,
after a rear end collision, do not continue
to use the system for safety reasons. Have it checked by a qualified dealership.
0 Note
- Low obstacles already signaled by a
warning can disappear from the system's
detection range as they are approached
and will not continue to be signaled. Ob­
jects such as barrier chains, trailer draw
bars, thin painted vertical poles or fen­
ces may not be detected by the system, posing risk of damage.
- Never use warm or hot water to remove
snow or ice from the rear view camera
lens -danger of crack formation on the
lens!
- When cleaning the lens, never use prod­
ucts that are abrasive.
Switching on/off
Applies to vehicles: with par king system (rear, with rear
view camera)
The rear view camera switches on automati­
cally together with the acoustic park assist
when you put the vehicle in reverse.
Switching on
.,. Put the vehicle in reverse gear, the acoustic
parking system with rear view camera is ac­
tivated automatically . Activation of the
acoustic parking system is confirmed by a
brief acknowledgement sound.
Switching off
.,. Drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h) , or
.,. take the vehicle out of reverse gear. The
acoustic parking system is immediately de­
activated , and the rear view camera picture
is deactivated autom atically after a period
of about 15 seconds, or
.,. switch off the ignition.
The delay in deactivating the camera provides an uninterrupted view behind the vehicle es­
pecially when maneuvering in tight parking
spaces and prevents the picture from turning off the every time you shift out of reverse .
If the warning message appears in the display
but not the rear view camera picture, read and
confirm the warning message . The acoustic
distance signal is always active.
If you press a function button on the MMI
control console, the rear view camera picture
disappears. The rear view camera picture reap ­
pears the next time you park .

and the MMI control console can be found in
the MM I instruction booklet .

-The rear view camera picture is available
as soon as the MMI Display or the MMI is
switched on, or the start -up phase is
completed .
- Keep the sensors in the rear bumper and
the rear view camera lens clean and free
of snow and ice, so that the parking sys­
tem can work properly. Please follow the
additional notes on
~page 113.

-In the MMI display, the direction of trav­
el of the vehicle rear is represented de­
pending on the steering wheel angle.
The vehicle front swings out more than
the vehicle rear. Maintain plenty of dis­
tance from an obstacle so that your out­
side mirror or a corner of your vehicle
does not collide with any obstacles -dan­
ger of accident!
- Remember to maintain sufficient clear­
ance from the curb to avoid damaging
the wheel rims.
(j) Tips
The left or right orientation lines and sur­
faces will be displayed, depending on the
turn signal being used.
Adjusting the display and warning tones
Applies to vehicles: with parking system (rear, with rear
view camera)
The display and warning tones are adjusted in
the radio or MM!*.
.. Select : I CARI function button > Parking sys·
tern.
Or
.. Select: ~I C~A~R~I function button > Car systems*
control button> Driver assist> Parking aid.
Display
- Off -when the parking system is switched
off, only audible signals are given.
- On -when the parking system is switched
on, the picture from the rear view camera is
displayed.
Warning tones
- Rear volume -
rear sensor volume
-Rear frequency -rear sensor frequency
-Music volume while parking -when the
parking system is switched on, the volume
of the active audio source is lowered.
The newly adjusted value is briefly heard from
the signal generator. The settings are auto­ matically stored and assigned to the remote
control key.

A WARNING
- Always make sure that the volume and
frequency of the warning tones is adjust­
ed so that you can easily hear the acous­
tic distance signal even if the radio is
playing, the air-conditioner blower is on
High or there is a high level of outside
noise.
- Check the settings whenever someone
else has driven the vehicle before you.
@ Tips
- The warning tones can also be adjusted
directly from the rear view camera im­
age. Simply press the Settings* control
button.
- Changed settings are activated when
parking assist is switched on again.
Error messages
Applies to vehicles: with parking system (rear, with rear
view camera}
If a warning tone is audible for about five sec­
onds when you turn on the ignition, there is a
malfunction in the system. Have the problem
corrected by your authorized Audi dealer.
Keep the sensors in the rear bumper clean and
free from ice so that the acoustic park assist
system can function properly.

corrosive chemica ls in them wi ll cause the
rubber impregnat ion in your top to swell and
possibly allow the fabric to leak.
With
normal soiling , all yo u need to do is
clear the top with a soft brush and clear wa­
ter . Always brush in the direction of the fabric
from front to rear.
If the top is
very dirty and has spotted areas
clean it with a brush using a convertible top
cleaner . Always brush in the direction of the
fabric from front to rea r. Rinse w ith plenty of
clear water, and allow the top to air-dry .
Chamo is are not suitable for drying the top .
Never use gasoline, spot remover, benze ne,
pa int thinner or so lvents to remove spo ts. We
recommend that you only use cleaners espe ­
cially formu lated for use on convertible tops ,
and that you follow the produce use di rections
caref ully. Authori zed A udi deals can p rovide
deta iled information.
A WARNING
Always read and heed all WARNINGS and

Never use a high-pressure power washer to
clean the power top.
Wind deflector
App lies to vehicles: with wind deflector
Clear the wind deflector with water or, if it is
heav ily soiled, a chemically neutra l cleaning
solut io n.

Sensors and camera lenses
-Remove snow wi th a hand brush and remove
ice with a de-icing spray that does not con­
ta in solvents .

that does not contain so lvents and a soft
cloth.

- If you wash your vehicle with a press ure
washer,

- do not clean the camera lenses and the area a round them with the p ress ure
washer.
- N ever use warm o r hot wate r to remove
snow or ice from the came ra lens . This
c ou ld cause t he lens to crack.
- N ever clean the camera lens with abra­
sive products .
Waxing and Polishing
Waxing
A good wax coating protects the vehicle paint
to a la rge ex ten t agains t the envi ronmental
f a ctors lis ted under ¢
page 189, Washing and
even against s light scratches .
You can use a liquid car wax to protect yo ur
paint as soon as one wee k afte r you r vehicle
has been delivered.
Even if you regularly use a
wa xing process in
a utomat ic car washes, we recommend that
yo u manually a pply a coat o f wax to g ive the
pain t ex tra protection, par ticu larly if water no
longer beads on t he clean paint.
P rotect plast ic body parts w ith car wax in the
same w ay as the veh icle body .
During warm weather dead insects tend to
collect on the front bumper and on the fo r­
ward a rea of the hood. They are much easier
to remove from pa int that is waxed
often .
Polishing
Polish your vehicle only if the paint has lost its
shine and the gloss cannot be brought back
