Activating and deactivating

Adjusting the display brightness

The signal brightness can be set in the radio
orMMI* .

The display brightness adjusts automatically
to the brightness of the surroundings, both in
the information and in the warning stage. In
very dark or very bright surroundings, the dis­ play is already set to the minimum or maxi ­
mum level by the automatic adjustment. In
Audi side assist 103
such cases, you may notice no change when
adjusting the br ightness, or the change may
only be noticeable once the surroundings
change.
Adjust the brightness to a level where the dis­
play in the information stage will not disrupt
your view forward. If you change the bright­
ness, the display in the exterior mirror will
briefly show the brightness level in the infor­
mation stage. The brightness of the warning
stage is linked to the brightness in the infor­
mation stage and is adjusted along with the
information stage adjustment.
(D Tips
- Side assist is not active while you are
making the adjustment.
- Your settings are automatically stored
and assigned to the remote control key
being used.
Driver messages

If side assist switches off by itself, the LED in
the button turns off and a message will ap­
pear in the instrument cluster display:
Audi side assist unavailable: Sensors blocked
The radar sensors' vision is affected . Do not
cover the area in front of the sensors with bike
wheels, stickers, dirt or other objects. Clean
the area in front of the sensors, if necessary
¢page 101, fig . 117.
Audi side assist: Currently unavailable
Side assist cannot be switched on temporarily
because there is a malfunction (for example,
the battery charge level may be too low) .
Audi side assist: System fault!
The system cannot guarantee that it will de­
tect vehicles correctly and it is switched off.
The sensors have been displaced or are faulty.
Have the system checked by an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility
soon.

determ ine the distance of the vehicle from a
detected obstacle. There are a total of four

Audi parking system plus provides audio and
visual signals when parking.
Sensors are located in the front and rear
b umpers. If these detect an obstacle, visual

Sensor s in the bumper
Sensors are located in the rear bumpers. If
these detect an obstacle, audible and visual signals warn you. The range at wh ich the sen­
sors beg in to measure is approximately:
To the side

Distance warning when reversing starts when
an obstacle is detected in the range of the
parking assist system. As the distance de­
creases, the time interval between the audible
tones becomes shorter.
When the distance is less than 1ft (0.30 m),
the tone becomes continuous. At this point
you should stop backing up.
If the distance to an obstacle stays the same,
the volume of the distance signal chime is
gradually reduced after about 4 seconds (does not affect the continuous s ignal tone). Ap­
proach ing another obstacle w ill cause the dis-

We recommend that you pract ice pa rking with
the rear view camera in a traffic-free location
or parking lot to become familiar with the sys­
tem, the orientation lines, and their function.
When doing this, there should be good light
and weather conditions.
In the MMI display, objects or vehicles appear
closer or further away if:
- you are driving in reverse gear from a level
surface onto an inclin e, or a downward
slope,
- you are driving in reverse gear towa rd pro­
truding objects,
- the vehicle is carrying too mu ch load in the
rear.
The accuracy of the orientation lines and blue
surfaces diminishes if:
- the rear view camera does not provide a reli­
able image, for example, in poor visibility
conditions or if the lens is dirty,
- the image on the screen is not visible due to
sun glare and reflection.
Caring for the rear view camera lens
The rear v iew camera is located above the rear
license plate bracket. For the parking assist to
operate, the lens
¢ fig . 126 must be kept
clean:
- Dampen the lens w ith a household a lcohol­
based glass cleaner, and clean the lens with
a dry cloth

-Remove snow with a hand brush and ice
preferably with a de-icing spray¢()).

-The parking aid cannot replace the driv­
er's attention . The driver alone is respon­
sible for parking and similar driving ma­ neuvers.
- Always keep your eyes on the vehicle's
surroundings, using the rear view mirror
as well.
- Do not allow yourself to be distracted
from traffic by the rear view camera pic­
tures.
- If the position and the installation angle
of the camera has changed, for example,
after a rear end collision, do not continue
to use the system for safety reasons. Have it checked by a qualified dealership.
0 Note
- Low obstacles already signaled by a
warning can disappear from the system's
detection range as they are approached
and will not continue to be signaled. Ob­
jects such as barrier chains, trailer draw
bars, thin painted vertical poles or fen­
ces may not be detected by the system, posing risk of damage.
- Never use warm or hot water to remove
snow or ice from the rear view camera
lens -danger of crack formation on the
lens!
- When cleaning the lens, never use prod­
ucts that are abrasive.
Switching on/off
Applies to vehicles: with par king system (rear, with rear
view camera)
The rear view camera switches on automati­
cally together with the acoustic park assist
when you put the vehicle in reverse.
Switching on
.,. Put the vehicle in reverse gear, the acoustic
parking system with rear view camera is ac­
tivated automatically . Activation of the
acoustic parking system is confirmed by a
brief acknowledgement sound.
Switching off
.,. Drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h) , or
.,. take the vehicle out of reverse gear. The
acoustic parking system is immediately de­
activated , and the rear view camera picture
is deactivated autom atically after a period
of about 15 seconds, or
.,. switch off the ignition.
The delay in deactivating the camera provides an uninterrupted view behind the vehicle es­
pecially when maneuvering in tight parking
spaces and prevents the picture from turning off the every time you shift out of reverse .
If the warning message appears in the display
but not the rear view camera picture, read and
confirm the warning message . The acoustic
distance signal is always active.
If you press a function button on the MMI
control console, the rear view camera picture
disappears. The rear view camera picture reap ­
pears the next time you park .

-The rear view camera picture is available
as soon as the MMI Display or the MMI is
switched on, or the start -up phase is
completed .
- Keep the sensors in the rear bumper and
the rear view camera lens clean and free
of snow and ice, so that the parking sys­
tem can work properly. Please follow the
additional notes on
~page 113.

-In the MMI display, the direction of trav­
el of the vehicle rear is represented de­
pending on the steering wheel angle.
The vehicle front swings out more than
the vehicle rear. Maintain plenty of dis­
tance from an obstacle so that your out­
side mirror or a corner of your vehicle
does not collide with any obstacles -dan­
ger of accident!
- Remember to maintain sufficient clear­
ance from the curb to avoid damaging
the wheel rims.

The left or right orientation lines and sur­
faces will be displayed, depending on the
turn signal being used.

Warning tones

parking system is switched on, the volume
of the active audio source is lowered.
The newly adjusted value is briefly heard from
the signal generator. The settings are auto­ matically stored and assigned to the remote
control key.

A WARNING
- Always make sure that the volume and
frequency of the warning tones is adjust­
ed so that you can easily hear the acous­
tic distance signal even if the radio is
playing, the air-conditioner blower is on
High or there is a high level of outside
noise.
- Check the settings whenever someone
else has driven the vehicle before you.
@ Tips
- The warning tones can also be adjusted
directly from the rear view camera im­
age. Simply press the Settings* control
button.
- Changed settings are activated when
parking assist is switched on again.
Error messages
Applies to vehicles: with parking system (rear, with rear
view camera}
If a warning tone is audible for about five sec­
onds when you turn on the ignition, there is a
malfunction in the system. Have the problem
corrected by your authorized Audi dealer.
Keep the sensors in the rear bumper clean and
free from ice so that the acoustic park assist
system can function properly.

Homelink ®
Universal remote
control
Description
Applies to vehicles: with Homelink
The HomeLink universal remote control can
be programmed with the remote control for
devices that are already present.
W ith Home Link, you can control devices such
as the garage door, security systems, house lights, etc. comfortably from the inside of you
vehicle.
Homelink makes it possible for you to replace
three d iffe rent remote controls from dev ices
in your home with one universal remote. This
feature works for most garage door and exte­
rior door motor signals. Programming the in­
div idual remote control for your remote con ­
trol takes place near the center of the radiator
grille. There is a control module attached at
this location .
A one -time programm ing of the sensor must
be performed before you are able to use sys­
tems with Home link. If the system does not
activate after performing the one-time pro­
gramm ing, check whether the system uses a
rolling code
q page 117 for vehicles without
the MMI*.
& WARNING
-
- Never use the Homelink ® transmitter
with any garage door opener that does
have not the safety stop and reverse fea­
ture as required by federa l safety stand­
ards. This includes any garage door open­
er model manufactured before April 1,
1982.
- A garage door opener which cannot de­
tect an object, signaling the door to stop
and reverse does not meet current feder­
al safety standards. Using a garage door
opener without these features increases
risk of serious injury or death. -
For safety reasons never release the
parking brake or start the engine while
anyone is standing in front of the vehicle.
- A garage door or an estate gate may
sometimes be set in motion when the
Homelink ® remote control is being pro­
grammed. If the device is repeatedly ac­
tivated, this can overstrain motor and
damage its e lectrical components - an
overheated motor is a fire hazard!
- To avo id possib le injuries or property
damage, please always make absolutely
certain that no persons or objects are lo­
cated in the range of motion of any
equipment being operated.

The rollover protection system helps protect
vehicle occupants in the event of a rollover.

The active rollover protection system consists
of:
- two rollbars
- the safety belts with belt tensioners
- the windshield frame
- the rollove r sensors
The active rollover protection system provides
additional safety in the event of a rollover.
Within milliseconds, sensors deploy two roll­
bars located beh ind the headrests in the rear
seats

The rollbars, reinforced windshield frame and
belt tensioners help protect front and rear
passengers in the event of a rollover.
The rollover protection system functions
when the power top is both open and closed.
.&_ WARNING
Do not use the area behind the rear seat
headrests
i=> fig. 13 7 as a storage area.
This is the area where the rollbars deploy.
If the rollover protection system is trig­
gered, objects placed there can be propel­ led through the vehicle and make it more
difficult for the rollbars to deploy. This in­
creases the risk for serious or life-threat­
ening injuries.
When is rollover protection deployed?
Rollover protection deploys in a collision or
rollover.
Depending on the collision, sensors through­
out the vehicle and the control module trigger
the rollover system to deploy. .,,.
