If the message appears, there is a malfunc­
tion in the headlights or light sw itch .

A WARNING
-Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode wh ile they are being changed caus­
ing serious personal injury.
- Work with due care when hand ling the
h igh-vo ltage sect ion of gas discharge
(xenon) lights . Failure to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury.

adaptive light system . The headlights sti ll

Go to an authorized dealership to have the
headlights or the control unit for the Adaptive
Light repaired.

sh ield washer system are heated at low
temperatures when the ig nitio n is on .
- When stopping temporarily, e .g. at a
traffic light , the set speed of the wind­

- For your safety, you should rep lace the
wiper blades once o r twi ce a year. See
your author ized Audi dealer for replace­
ment b lades.

- T he windsh ie ld w iper blades m ust only
be folded aw ay whe n in the service pos i­
tion! Otherwise, yo u ris k damaging the
paint on the hood or the windshie ld wip ­
er motor.
- Yo u should not move your vehicle or
press the windshield wiper lever when
the wipe r arms are folded away from the
w indshield. The windsh ield wipers wou ld
move back into their or iginal position
and could damage the hood and wind­
shield .
- To help prevent damage to the w iper sys­
tem , always loosen blades wh ich are fro­
zen to the windshield before operating
w ipers .
- To help p revent damage to wiper blades,
do not use gasoline, kerosen e, paint
thinne r, or other solvents on or near the
w iper blades .
- T o help prevent damage to the w iper
arms or other components, do not at-
t empt to move the wipe rs by hand. .,._

Never use a fast charger as a booster to
start the engine . This will seriously dam­
age sensitive electronic components, such
as control units, relays, radio, etc ., as well
as the battery charger .
Battery replacement
The new battery must have the same specifi­
cations and dimensions as the original equip­
ment battery .
Intelligent energy management in your vehi­
cle is responsible for d istributing the electr i­
cal energy throughout your vehicle
c::> page 203 . The intelligent energy manage­
ment system w ill keep the engine battery
charged bette r than vehicles w ithout t his sys­
tem. To make sure the additional electr ica l en­
ergy is available once again after you have
changed the battery, we recommend that you
install batteries of the same type and manu­
facture only (the same as those installed at
the time your vehicle was delivered). Specifi­
cations are listed on the bat tery hous ing. Your
author ized dealer must code the battery in
the energy management system to enable you
to use the energy management functions cor­
rectly after replac ing the battery .
T he new battery must have the same capacity ,
voltage (12 volts), amperage, construction and p lug sealing.
When installing the battery, make sure the ig­
n ition and all electr ical consumers are sw itch­
ed off .
CD Note
-Make sure the ventilat ion hose on the
s ide of the battery is connected, other­
wise fumes or battery acid can leak out.
- Vehicles with the Start-Stop-System* are
equipped with a special cycle-proof AGM
battery. Insta lling a different type of
batte ry can cause prob lems in the vehi­
cle elect rical system. When replacing the
vehicle battery, always insta ll one wi th

the same specifications as the origina l
battery .
- Battery mounts and clamps must always
be sec ured correct ly .
- Read and fo ll ow the warnings under
c::> page 244, Working on the battery be ­
fore performing any work on the battery.
@ For the sake of the environment
Because of the prob lem of p roper disposal
of a ba ttery, we recommend your author­
ized Audi dealer change the battery for
you. Batteries contain sulfuric acid and l ead and must always be disposed of prop­
erly in compliance with all environmental
regulat ions. Disposing of vehicle batter ies
i mproperly is very dangerous to the envi­
r o nment .
