When you stop and the start-stop-system
turns the engine off, the ignition remains on. Make sure that the ign ition is switched
off before exiting the vehicle.
General information

The standard Start-Stop-mode can be cancel·
led for different system-related reasons.

Engine will not switch off
Before each stop phase, the system checks if
certain cond itions have been met . For exam­
p le, the engine will
not be switched off in the
following situations:
- The engine has not reached the minimum
required temperature for Start -Stop-mode .
- The interio r temperature selected by the A/C
system has not been reached.
- Th e outside temperature is extremely h igh/
low.
- The windshield is being defrosted

- The parking system* is switched on.
- The battery charge level is too low .
- The steering wheel is sharply turned or there is a steer ing movement.
- After engaging the reverse gear.
- On sharp inclines .

Engine automatically restarts
The stop phase is interrupted in the following
situations, for example. The engine restarts
without any action by the driver.
- The interior temperature varies from the
temperature selected in the A/C system.
- The windsh ield is being defrosted

-The brake pedal is pressed severa l times in a
row.
- The battery charge level becomes too low .
- High power consumpt ion.
@ Tips
If you shift into the D, Nor S positions af­
ter sh ifting into
reverse, the vehicle must
be driven faster than 6 mph (10 km/h) in
order for the engine to sw itch off aga in.
Switching the Start-Stop-System on/off
manually

If you do not wish to use the system, you can
switch it off manually.

There is a malfunc tion in the Sta rt-Stop-Sys­
tem . Dr ive the vehicle to an au thorized repair
fac ility for servicing as soon as possible to cor­
rect the malfunction.
Speed warning system
Introduction
The speed warning system helps you to stay
under a specified maximum speed .
The speed warning system warns you if you
are exceeding the maximum speed that you
have set . You will hear a warn ing tone when
your speed exceeds the stored value by ap­
p rox imately 3 mph (3 km/h) . An indicato r

turns off when the speed decreases below the
stored maximum speed.
Se tting a thresho ld is re commended if yo u
wo uld like to be reminded when you reach a
certain maximum speed. Situations where you may want to do so include driv ing in a country
with a general speed Limit or if there is a
specified max imum speed for winter tires .
@ Tips
Even though your vehicle is equipped with
a speed warning system, you should st ill watch the speedome
ter to ma ke s ure you
are not dr iving faster than the speed limit .
Setting the threshold
You can set, chang e and delet e the threshold
in the MMI.
• Select: I CAR I func tion button > Car sy stem s
contro l but to n > Driver a ssist > Speed warn­
ing .
You can set any threshold betwee n 20 mph
(30 km/h) and 150 mph (2 40 km/h). Se tting s
can each be adj usted in incremen ts of
5 mph
(10 km/h).
Cruise control
Switching on
The cruise con trol sys tem makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph (30 km/h) .

The speed is k ept constant via an engine out­
put adjustment or act ive brake intervention .
A WARNING
-Always pay attention to traffic even when
the cruise control is switched on . You are
always responsible for your speed and
the distance between your vehicle and other vehicles.
- For safety reasons, the cruise control
should not be used in the city, in stop­
and-go traff ic, on twisting roads and
when road conditions are poor (such as
ice, fog, grave l, heavy rain and hydro ­
planing) -risk of accident .
- Turn off the cruise control temporari ly
when entering turn lanes, highway exit lanes or in construction zones.
- Please note that inadvertently "rest ing "
yo ur foot on the accelerator peda l causes
the cruise control not to brake. This is
because the cruise control is overridden
by the driver's acce leration.
- If a brake system malfunction such as
overheating occurs when the cruise con­
trol system is sw itched on, the braking
function in the system may be switched
off. The other cruise control functions re­
main active as long as the indicator light

The brake lights illuminate as soon as the brakes decelerate automat ically .
Changing speed
" To increase/dec rease the speed in incre­

hold the lever in the
0 10 direction until
the desired speed is displayed.
You can also press the accelerator pedal down
to increase your speed, e.g . if you want to
pass someone . The speed you saved earlier
will resume as soon as you release the accele r­
ator pedal.
If, however, you exceed your saved speed by
6 mph (10 km/h) for longer than S minutes,
the cruise contro l wi ll turn off temporari ly.
The green symbol

The saved speed remains the same .
Presetting your speed
You can preset your desired speed while the
vehicle is not moving .
" Switch on the ignition.
" Pull lever into posit ion

" Press the lever in the 0 or 0 direction to
increase or decrease your speed .
" Release the lever to save that speed.
This function makes it possible, for example,
to save the speed you want before dr iving on
the h ighway. Once on the highway, act ivate
the cru ise con trol by pulling the lever toward

Driving in stop-and-go traffic
Applies to vehicles: with Audi adaptive cruise control
The adaptive cruise control system also as­
sists you in stop-and -go traffic. If a previous
detected vehicle ahead s tops, yo ur vehicle will
brake to a stop, within the limits of the sys ­
tem .

Your vehicle w ill drive more slowly when
starting. This may also happen in some

Lane assist
Description
Appl ies to vehicles: with lane assist
Lane assist helps you keep your vehicle in your
lane .
Lane assist detects lane marker lines within
the limits of the system using a camera in the
windshield. If you are approaching a detected
lane marker line and it appears likely that you
will leave the lane, the system will warn you
with a light vibration . Lane assist is operable
when the line marking the lane is detected on
at least one s ide of the vehicle .
The system will not warn you before cross ing
a lane marker line if you have activated the
turn signal. In t his case, it assumes tha t you
a re changing lanes intent ionally.
The system is designed for driv ing on free­
ways and expanded highways and thus works
on ly at speeds of 40 mph (65 km/h) o r more.
.&_ WARNING
- Lane ass ist will not keep your vehi cle in
yo ur lane. The system only warns the
dr iver w hen the vehicle is leaving the
lane. The driver is always responsib le for
keeping the vehicle in the lane.
- The camera is not able to detect all lane
boundary lines and in some cases might
also detect lane structures or objects as
boundary lines. This can lead to incorrect
warnings or warnings that fail to go off
at all.
- The camera's visibility can be impaired by
vehicles ahead of you, for instance, or by
rain, snow, heavy spray or light shin ing
in to the camera lens. This can cause lane
assist to fa il to detec t bou ndary lines.

Instrum ent cluster indicator light
• Re ady:
The green indicator light shows
that th e system is ready to use . Th e system
can now warn you if yo u are about to cross a
known lane mar ker line.
• Not ready: The yellow indicator light
shows that the system is t urned on bu t unable
to send a warning . This can be due to the fol­
lowing :
- There is no lane boundary line .
- The relevant lane marker lines are not de-
tected (for example, markings in a construc ­
tion zone or because they are obst ructed by
snow, d irt, water or backlighting) .
- The vehicle's speed is below the speed need·
ed to activate it, wh ich is about 40 mph (65
km/h).
- The lane is narrower than about 8
ft. (2.5
m) .

- The curve is too sharp.

When the lane assist turns off automatically,
the instrument cluster indicator goes out and
one of the follow ing messages appears o n the
display:

This message appears if the camera is no lon­
ger functional after the system has continu­
ously failed to detect the lane markings. This
could happen if :
-The camera field of view

fig . 105 is dirty or covered in ice. Clean the
area on the windsh ield.
- The camera field of view is fogged over. Wait
until the fog has cleared before switching
lane assist on .
- The system has been unable to detect the
lanes for an extended period of time due to
road conditions such as lanes covered in
snow . Sw itch lane assist back on when the
lines are more visible.

Description

"Night vis ion assistant with pedestrian detec­
tion" uses an infrared camera to monitor the
area in front of you r vehicle at night. Within
the limits of the system, it can display objects
up to about 1000 feet (300 meters) away. The
heat image of a pedestrian detected by the
camera is shown in the instrument cluster dis­
p lay ¢

and 90 meters) in front of the vehicle, under
ideal conditions.

area is based on the vehicle speed and

must keep your foot on the brake in all
selector lev er positions except P and N
when the e ng ine is r unning. Do not inad­
vertently press the accelerator pe dal
w hen the veh icl e is stationary . Otherwise
the vehicle will s tart to move immediate­
ly, even if the park ing brake is se t. This
cou ld result in a c rash.
- Do not ride the brakes or press the brake
peda l too often or too long when dr iving
down a hill. Constant braking causes the
brakes to ove rheat and s ubstant ially re­
duces braking performance, increases
braking distance or causes comp lete fail­
ure of the brake system.
Hill descent control
The hill descent control system assists the
driver when driving down declines.
H ill descent control is activated when these­
lector lever is in D/S and you press t he b rake
pedal. The transmission automat ically se lects
a gear that is suitab le for the incline. Hill de­
scent control tries to maintain the speed ach­ ieved at the time of brak ing, within physical
and techn ical limitations. If may still be nec­
essary to adjust the speed with the brakes .
H ill descent control switches off once the de­
cline levels out or you press the accelerator
pedal.
Hill descent control is also activated when the
speed is set by starting the cruise control sys­
tem c:>
page 90.
A WARNING -
Hill descent control ca nnot overcome
physical limitations, so it may not be able
t o maintain a constant speed under all
condi tion s. Alw ays be ready to ap pl y the
bra kes.
Shifting manually
The shift paddles allow the driver to shift the
gears manually .

Kick-down
Kick-down enables maximum acceleration .
When you press the accelerator pedal down
beyond the resistance point, the automatic
transmission downsh ifts into a lower gear, de­
pending on veh icle speed and eng ine RPM . It
shifts up into the next higher gear once the
max imum specified engine RP M is reached .
