• Press the release button@ ¢ fig. 17.
• Pull the mechanica l key @ out of the mas ­
ter key.
Using the mechan ica l key, you can:
- lock and unlock* the storage compartment
on the passenger's side
<=:> page 74 .
-lock and unlock the vehicle manually
c:> page 35 .
-lock the front and rear passenger doors me­
chanically
c:> page 36.
- unlock the luggage compartment lid man­
ually
c:> page 39 .

The check light @<=:> fig. 18 in the master key
p rov ides info rmat ion about d ifferent cond i­
tions.
• The check light turns on briefly once when a
button is pressed, and dur ing an "inqu iry"
by the convenience key system.

• If the check light does not come on, the
battery is dead and has to be replaced. In
add ition, when the battery is dead

indicator light appears in the instrument
cluster display as well as the message

• Remove the mechanical key c:> page 31.
• Press the re lease button ® c:> fig. 18 on the
battery holder and at the same time pull the
battery holder out of the master key in the
direction of the arrow .
• Install the new battery CR 2032 with the
"+ " sign facing down.
• Push the battery holder carefu lly into the
maste r key.
• Install the mechan ical key.

D ispose of dead batteries properly so as
not to poll ute the environment.
@ Tips
The rep lacement battery must be the
same specifica tion as the o rigina l.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthor­
ized use of your vehicle .
A computer chip ins ide your key automatically
deact ivates the electron ic immobilizer when
the key is inside the vehicle . When you remove
the key from the vehicle, the elect ron ic immo ­
bilizer is automa tically ac tivated once aga in.
& WARNING
A lways take the key with you when you
leave the vehicle. The key can disarm the
e lectronic engine immobilizer and permit
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle sys­
tems such as power w indow or power sun-
roof leading to serious pe rsonal injury .

-Never exceed the maximum permissible
load carry ing capacity of the roof of your
vehicle, the permissible axle weights and
the permissible total weight of your vehi­ cle
~ page 290, Weights.
@ For the sake of the environment
As a result of the increased wind resist­ance created by a roof rack, your vehicle is
using fue l unnecessarily. So remove the
roof rack after using it.
12-volt sockets
Applies to vehicles: 12-volt sockets
Electrical accessories can be connected to ev­
ery 12-volt socket.

The 12 volt sockets can be used for electrical
accessories. The power input must not exceed
120 watts.

Before you purchase any accessories, always
read and follow the information in
~ page 298, Additional accessories and parts
replacement.
A WARNING
The sockets and the electrical accessories
connected to them operate only when the ignition is switched on. Incorrect usage
can lead to ser ious injuries or burns. To re­
duce the risk of injuries, never leave chil­
dren unattended in the vehicle with the ve­
hicle key.
(D Note
To avoid damaging the socket, only use
plugs that fit properly.
- Never connect equipment that generates
electrical current, such as a solar pane l
or battery charger, to the 12 volt socket.
This could damage the vehicle's electri­
cal system .
- The 12 volt socket should only be used
for a short period of ti me as a power
source for electrical equ ipment . Please
use the electrical sockets in the vehicle
when connecting equipment for longer periods.
(D Tips
When the engine is off and accessories are
still plugged in and are on, the vehicle bat­
tery can still be drained.

CD Note
Never use a fast charger as a booster to
start the engine . This will seriously dam­
age sensitive electronic components, such
as control units, relays, radio, etc ., as well
as the battery charger .
Battery replacement
The new battery must have the same specifi­
cations and dimensions as the original equip­
ment battery .
Intelligent energy management in your vehi­
cle is responsible for d istributing the electr i­
cal energy throughout your vehicle
c::> page 203 . The intelligent energy manage­
ment system w ill keep the engine battery
charged bette r than vehicles w ithout t his sys­
tem. To make sure the additional electr ica l en­
ergy is available once again after you have
changed the battery, we recommend that you
install batteries of the same type and manu­
facture only (the same as those installed at
the time your vehicle was delivered). Specifi­
cations are listed on the bat tery hous ing. Your
author ized dealer must code the battery in
the energy management system to enable you
to use the energy management functions cor­
rectly after replac ing the battery .
T he new battery must have the same capacity ,
voltage (12 volts), amperage, construction and p lug sealing.
When installing the battery, make sure the ig­
n ition and all electr ical consumers are sw itch­
ed off .
CD Note
-Make sure the ventilat ion hose on the
s ide of the battery is connected, other­
wise fumes or battery acid can leak out.
- Vehicles with the Start-Stop-System* are
equipped with a special cycle-proof AGM
battery. Insta lling a different type of
batte ry can cause prob lems in the vehi­
cle elect rical system. When replacing the
vehicle battery, always insta ll one wi th

the same specifications as the origina l
battery .
- Battery mounts and clamps must always
be sec ured correct ly .
- Read and fo ll ow the warnings under
c::> page 244, Working on the battery be ­
fore performing any work on the battery.
@ For the sake of the environment
Because of the prob lem of p roper disposal
of a ba ttery, we recommend your author­
ized Audi dealer change the battery for
you. Batteries contain sulfuric acid and l ead and must always be disposed of prop­
erly in compliance with all environmental
regulat ions. Disposing of vehicle batter ies
i mproperly is very dangerous to the envi­
r o nment .
