If the switch is in the center position, the inte­
rior l ights turn on automatically when you un­
lock the vehicle, open a door or remove the ig­
n ition key. The interior lights turn off several
seconds after your close the doors , when you
lock the vehicle or when you turn the ign it ion
on. When a door is open, the light tu rns off
after a few minutes.
@ Front /rear r eading lights
To turn a reading light on/off, press the but­
ton~
~ fig. 37 or ~fig. 38.
The appearance and location of the rear read­
ing lights may differ depending on the model.
Instrument illumination
The basic brightness of the illumination for
the instruments, the center console and the
display can be adjusted .

.,. Turn the knob toward "-" or"+" to reduce or
increase the brightness .
.,. Press the knob again to return it to its origi­
nal posit ion.
(!') Tips
The instrument illumination (for dials and
needles) lights on when the ignition is
switc hed on and the vehicle lights are
turned off. As the daylight fades, the illu­
mination of the dia ls likewise dims auto­
matically and wi ll go out completely when
the ou tside light is very low. This feature is
meant to rem ind yo u to sw itch on the
headlights when ou tside light conditions
become poo r.

Turn the knob to the desired position:
Q/ P -In th is position , you can adjust the

To help yo u see the curb when backing into a
pa rking space, the surface of the m irror tilt s
slig htly . The knob m ust be in the P posit io n
for this to ha ppen .
You can adjust the t ilt ed mir ro r sur face by
turn ing t he knob in the des ired direction .
When you move out of reve rse and into ano th­
er gear, the new mi rror posit ion is stored and
assigned to the key you are using .
The mirro r goes back into its origina l posit io n
once yo u drive forward faster tha n 9 mph
(15 km/h) or sw itch the ignition off .
,&. WARNING
Curved mirror su rfaces (convex or spheri ­
cal *) increase yo ur field of view . Remem­
ber that vehicles or other objects will ap­
pea r smaller and farther away than w hen
seen in a flat m irr or. If you use this mirror
to estimate distances of following veh icles
when changing lanes, you co uld estimate
incorrectly and ca use an accide nt.

- If you wash the veh icle in an automatic
ca r wash, yo u must fold the exte rior m ir­
r o rs in to reduce the r is k of damage to
the m irrors .

Electrolyte fluid can leak from aut omatic
d imm ing mirrors if the glass is broken .
E lec trolyt e fluid can irritate skin, eyes and
res pirato ry system.
- Repeated or prolonged exposu re to elec­
trolyte can ca use i rritation to the respira­
to ry sy stem, especially among people
wit h asthma or o ther resp iratory co ndi­
tions . Ge t fresh a ir immediately by leav­
ing the vehicle o r, if that is no t possib le,
open w indows and doors all the way.
- If electroly te gets in to the eyes, f lush
them thorough ly with large amounts of
clean water for at least 15 minutes;
medical attention is recommended.
- If electrolyte contacts skin, fl ush affect­
ed area with clean water for at least 15
minutes a nd the n wash affected area
wit h soap and water; medical attention
is recommended. Thoroughly wash af­
fected cloth ing and shoes before re use .

-If swallowed and person is conscious,
rinse mouth with water for at least 15
minutes. Do not induce vomiting unless
instructed to do so by medical professio­
nal. Get medical attention immediately.
d) Note
Liquid electrolyte leaking from broken mir­
ror glass will damage any plastic surfaces
it comes in contact with. Clean up spilled
electrolyte immediately with clean water
and a sponge.
@ Tips
- Switching off the dimming function of
the inside rear view mirror also deacti­
vates the automatic dimming function of
the exterior mirrors.
-Automatic dimming for the mirror only
operates properly if the sun shade* for
the rear window is not in use or the light
striking the inside mirror is not hindered
by other objects.
- The automatic dimming mirrors do not
dim when the interior lighting is turned
on or the reverse gear is selected.
Sun visors

The sun visors for the driver and passenger
can be pulled out of their brackets in the cen­
ter of the vehicle and turned towards the
doors

Sun shade

The rear window is equipped with a sun
shade.

.. To extend/ret ract the sun shade, press the
~ button c::> fig. 43 or c::> fig. 44 .
You can adjust the settings for the rear sun
shade so the shade retracts automatically
when you select the reverse gear. To do this,
select the
I CAR I function button > Windows >
Rear blind> automatic> on or I CAR I function
button
> Car Systems control button > Vehi­
cle settings> Automatic rear blind > On .
The
current setting is automatically stored and as­
signed to the remote key. The sun shade is ex­
tended again as soon as the vehicle is travel­ ing forward at a speed greater than 9 mph
(1 S km/h) if the ignition has not been switch­
ed off in the meantime.

= When lowering or raising the sunshade,
make sure there is nothing in its way and
that it has a free path to travel. This could
cause personal injury.

-To help prevent damage to the wiper
arms or other components, do not at­
tempt to move the wipers by hand .
@ Tips
-Commercial hot waxes applied by auto ­
matic car washes affect the how easily
the glass surface can be cleaned.
- You can also use the service position, for
example, if you want to protect the
windshield from icing by using a cover.
Digital compass
Switching the compass on and off

The compass direction is shown in the rear­

.. To sw itch the compass on or off, press and
hold the button @ until the compass dis ­
play in the mirror~ fig. 47 appears or disap ­
pears.
The digital compass only works when the igni­
tion is on. The directions are indicated with
abbreviations:
N (north), NE (northeast), E
(east), SE (southeast), S (south), SW (south­
west),
W (west), NW (northwest).

cal devices or metallic objects near the

Adjusting the magnetic zone

The magnetic zone must be adjusted correctly
for the compass to read accurately .

the number of the magnetic zone appears in
the rearview mirror .

correct magnetic zone. The selection mode
turns off after a few seconds.
Calibrating the compass

You must recalibrate the compass if it does
not display the correct direction.

.. Drive in a circle at about 6 mph (10 km/h)
until a direction is displayed in the rearv iew

- To avo id endange ring yourse lf and other
d rivers, calibrate the compass in an area
where there is no traffic.

cannot fall out into the footwells. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.
- Any articles of clothing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv­
er's v iew. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang any clothing w ith hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks.
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects cou ld injure any passen­
gers inside the vehicle .
- To reduce the r isk of personal injury in an
accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while driving.
- Read and fo llow all WARN INGS
~ page 161, Important safety instruc­
tions on the side airbag system.
- Hang clothes in such a way that they do
not impair the driver's vision .
- T he coat hooks must only be used for
lightweight clothing. Do not leave any
heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere with the side cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause personal injury in a crash.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging clothing on the coat hooks as this can in­
terfere with proper deployment of the
side curtain airbags in an accident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal in­
jury in a sudde n stop.
- Always keep the compartment above the
rearview mirror closed while driving to
reduce the risk of injury in the event of
sudden braking maneuvers or a col lision.

Objects located on the rear shelf that rub
aga inst the rear w indow cou ld damage the
heating wires for t he rear w indow defog­
ger.

-A vent slot is located between the shelf
and the rear w indow . Do not block the
vent with any items you may place on the
rear window she lf.
- Do not place bu lky items on the rear win­
dow shelf as they could restrict or block

Roof rack
Description and mounting location s
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof
luggage rack.

.,. Always read and follow the i nstructions pro­
vided by the roof rack manufacturer when
installing the roof rack system.
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the
roof, you must observe the fo llowing:
- Yo ur vehicle has aerodynam ic rai n gutters
mo lded into the roof. This is why conven­
tional roof luggage racks cannot be used.
We recommend using roof racks from the
Audi orig inal accessories program.
- On ly use roof racks approved for your vehi­
cle. These approved roof racks are the bas is
for a complete roof rack system. Addit ional
attachments or carrier systems are needed
to transport luggage and sports equipment.
We recommend using roof racks from the
Audi orig inal accessories program .
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it
is only mounted on the designated locations
on the roof

(D V ehicles that are approaching
In certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
cr itical for a lane change
even if it is still
somewhat far away. The fas ter a vehicle ap­
p ro aches, the sooner the disp lay in the exteri­
or m irror will t urn on.
@ Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling w ith you are indicated in the
exterior m irror if they are classified as cr it ical
for a lane change. All vehicles detec ted by
side assis t are in dicated by the time they en­
ter your "blind spot", at the latest.
@ Vehicles left behind
If you s low ly pass a ve hicl e tha t sid e ass ist has
dete cted ( the difference in s peed between the
vehicle and you r vehicle is less than 9 mph
(15 km/h), the display in the exter ior mirror
turns on as soon as the vehicle enters your blind spot.
The display wi ll not t urn on if you quickly pass
a vehicle that s ide assist has detected (t he d if ­
f erence in speed between the ve hicle and your
vehicle is greater than 9 mph (15 km/h).
Functional limitations
T he radar senso rs are designed to detect the
left and right adjacent lanes whe n the road
l anes a re the normal width. In certain situa­
t ions, the d isp lay in the exterior mirror may
turn on even though there is no ve hicle locat­
ed in the area that is cr itical fo r a la ne cha nge.
Fo r example:
- if the lanes are narrow or if your are driving on t he edge of your lane. If this is the case,
the system may have detected the vehicle in
another la ne that is
not adjacent to you r
cur rent lane .
- if you a re driving throug h a c urve . Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lane ove r
from the ad jacent lane .
- if side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or d isp laced gua rd rails) .
- In poor weather conditions. The side assist fu nctions are limited .
Do not cover the radar sensors

stickers, depos its, bicycle wheels or other ob­
jects, because this will affect the funct ion. Do
not use s ide ass ist when towing a trailer . For
i nforma tion on cleaning, refe r to
c::> page 202 .
&_ WARNING
-Always pay a ttention t o traffic and to th e
ar ea arou nd your vehi cle. Side a ssist c an­
no t repl ace a driver 's atte ntion. The driv ­
er a lone is always res ponsible fo r lane
cha nges a nd similar driving maneuvers.

-Improper reliance on the side assist sys­
tem can cause collisions and serious
personal injury:
- Never rely only on side assist when
changing lanes.
- Always check rear view mirrors to make
sure that it is safe to change lanes.
- Side assist cannot detect all vehicles un­
der all conditions- danger of accident!
- Please note that side assist indicates
there are approaching vehicles, or
vehicles in your blind spot, only after
your vehicle has reached a driving speed
of at least 19 mph (30 km/h).
- In certain situations, the system may not
function or its function may be limited.
For example:
- if vehicles are approaching or being left
behind very quickly. The display may
not turn on in time.
- in poor weather conditions such as
heavy rain, snow or heavy mist .
- on very wide lanes, in tight curves or if
there is a rise in the road surface .
Vehicles in the adjacent lane may not
be detected because they are outside
of the sensor range.
(D Note
The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and
underbody. This can affect the system .
Have your authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility check their
function.
(D Tips
- If the window glass in the driver's door
or front passenger's door has been tint­
ed, the display in the exterior mirror may be misinterpreted.

Adjusting the display brightness

The signal brightness can be set in the radio
orMMI* .

The display brightness adjusts automatically
to the brightness of the surroundings, both in
the information and in the warning stage . In
very dark or very bright surroundings, the dis­ play is already set to the minimum or maxi­
mum level by the automatic adjustment. In
such cases, you may notice no change when
adjusting the brightness, or the change may
only be noticeable once the surroundings
change.
Adjust the brightness to a level where the dis­
play in the information stage will not disrupt
your view forward. If you change the bright­
ness, the display in the exterior mirror will
briefly show the brightness level in the infor­
mation stage. The brightness of the warning
stage is linked to the brightness in the infor­
mation stage and is adjusted along with the
information stage adjustment.
