function may not be available. It may not be
poss ible to set the parking brake or release
it once it has been set. Seek professional as­
s istance .
(USA models): If the warning light

- Always observe the warnings in

- Driv ing with low b rake fluid is a safety
haza rd. Stop the car and get professional
assistance.
- USA models: If the 1111 warn ing light,
the . warning light and

ing light come on together, the rear
wheels co uld lock up fi rst unde r hard
braking . Rear wheel lock -up can cause
loss of vehicle contro l and an accident.
Have your vehicle repaired immediately
by your authorized Audi dea ler or a quali­
fied workshop. Drive slowly and avoid
sudden, hard brake applications.
-Canada models: If the brake warn ing

- If the brake warning/indicator light does
not go out after a few seconds and the
parking brake is released, or lights up
whi le you are driv ing, the fluid level in
the brake fluid reservoir is too low. If you believe that
it is safe to do so, proceed
immed iate ly at low speed to the nearest
authorized Audi dealer or qualif ied repair
facility and have the brake system in­
spected.
- Always keep in mind that after several
brake applications, you will need greater
pressure on the brake pedal to stop your
veh icle. Do not rely on strained brakes to
respond with max imum stopping power
in critical s ituations. You m ust allow fo r
increased braking distances . The extra
d istance used up by fading brakes could
lead to an accident.
· ~fu /C®) Electromechanical parking brake
The warning/indicator light monitors the
electromechanical parking brake.
If the indicator l igh t. (USA models)/ .

was set . If the parking brake is se t when the

ter abo ut 20 seconds .

t ion: Vehicle parked too steep
If the indicator light b links and the message
appears, there is not enough braking power to
keep the vehicle from roll ing . T he b rakes have
ove rheated. The veh icle cou ld roll away eve n
o n a sm all incline .

pedal and press the button(®) or start driving
with starting assist at the same time

To re lease the parking brake manually, press

The fl (USA models) ;fll (Canada models) in­
d icator light monitors the safety systems (e.g .
a irbags, pretensioners) and ill uminates for a
few seconds each time you switch the ignition
on .
If the
fl (USA models)/ E,I (Canada mode ls)
indicator light does not go out, or if it illumi­
nates wh ile you are driv ing, or if it starts to
blink, then there is a ma lfunction somewhere
in the system . If the light does not illum inate
when you switch the ignition on, this also
means the re is a ma lfunction.

If you have a malfunc tion in the safety sys­
tems, contact your author ized Audi dealer

tems may not work properly in an acc i­

This warning/indicator light monitors the
electronic power control.

while yo u are driving, then there is a mal ­
funct ion in the engine electronics . Have
the malfunct ion corrected as soon as pos­

adaptive light*
When switched on, adap tive ligh t ad apts to
curves in the road depending on the vehicle
speed and the steering ang le . This provides
b etter l ighting t hro ugh the curve . The system
operates at speeds between app roximate ly
6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Static cor nering light* (vehicles with adaptive
light) - the cornering light switches on at
speeds up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/
h) when a certain steering wheel angle is
reached or when a turn sig na l is activated. The
area to the s ide of the vehicle is illumi nated
be tte r when tur ning .
The adaptive light and the co rnering light only
funct ion when the switch is in the AU TO posi­
t ion (automatic headlights*) .
A WARNING

- Daytime r unning lights and automatic
headlights* are only inte nded to assist
the dr iver . Th ey do not re lieve the driver
o f his re sp onsibili ty to check t he head ­
lights and to t urn them on manua lly ac ­
cordin g to the c urrent light and visibility
conditions . For examp le, fog cannot be
detected by the light sensors *. So a lways
sw itch on t he headlights
io under these
wea ther conditions and when driving in
the dark.
- Cras hes can happen whe n you cannot see
the road ahead and when yo u cannot be
see n by other moto ris ts. Always tu rn on
the head lig hts so that yo u can se e ahead
and so th at others can see your car fr om
the b ack.

lighting sys tems descr ibed here.

General recommen­
dations
Why is your seat adjustment so important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can
only provide maximum protection if the front
seats are correctly adjusted.
There are various ways of adjusting the front
seats to provide safe and comfortable support
for the driver and the front passenger. Adjust
your seat properly so that :
- you can easily and quick ly reach all the
switches and controls in the instrument
panel
- your body is properly supported thus reduc­ ing physical stress and fatigue
- the safety belts and airbag system can offe r
maximum protection

I n the following sections, you will see exactly
how you can best adjust your seats .
There are special regulations and instructions
for installing a child safety seat on the front passenger's seat. Always follow the informa­
tion regard ing child safety provided in
¢ page 161, Child Safety.

Refer to ¢ page 121, Driving Safely for
important information, tips, suggestions
and warnings that you should read and fol­
low for your own safety and the safety of
your passengers.

Incorrect seating position of the driver and
all other passengers can result in serious
personal injury.
- Always keep your feet on the floor when
the vehicle is in motion -never put your
feet on top of the instrument panel, out of the w indow or on top of the seat cush­
ion. This app lies especially to the passen-

gers . If your seating position is incorrect,
you increase the risk of injury in the case
of sudden braking or an accident . If the
airbag inflates and the seating position
is incorrect, this cou ld result in pe rsonal
in jury or even death.
- It is important for both the driver and front passenger to keep a distance of at least 10 inches (25 cm) between them­
selves and the steering wheel and/or in­
s trumen t panel. If you're s itting any
closer than th is, the airbag system can ­
not protect you properly. In addition, the
front seats and head restraints m ust be
adj usted to your body height so that they
can give you max imum protect ion.
- Always try to keep as much distance as
possible between yourself and the steer­
ing wheel or instrument panel.
- Do not adjust the driver's or front pas­ senger's seat whi le the vehicle is moving.
Your seat may move unexpectedly, caus­
ing sudden loss of veh icle control and
pe rsonal injury. If you adjust you r seat
while the veh icle is moving, you are ou t
of po sit ion.
Driver's seat
The correct seat position is important for safe
and relaxed driving .
We recommend that you adjust the dr iver's
seat in the follow ing manner:
.., Adjust the seat in fore and aft direction so
that you can easily push the pedals to the
floor wh ile keeping your knees slightly bent

"" Adjust the seatback so that when you sit
w ith your back against the seatback , you can
s ti ll grasp the top of t he steering wheel.
... App lies to vehicles with adjustable head re­
straints: Adjust the head restraint so the up­
per edge is as even as possible wit h the top
of your head. If that is not possib le, try to
adjust the head restraint so that it is as .,.

Automatic mode ma inta ins a constant tem­
perature inside the vehicle. Air temperature,
airflow and air distribution are controlled au­
tomatically.
Adjusting the temperature
Temperatures between 60 °F (+16 °C) and
84 °F (+28 °C) can be set . Outside of this
range,
LO or HI will appea r in the climate con­
trol system disp lay. At both of these settings,
the climate control system runs continuously
at maximum cooling or heating power . There
is no temperature regu lation.
~ Adjusting the airflow
You can adjust the a irflow manually to su it
your needs . To have the airflow regulated au­
tomatically, press the
!AUTO ! button.
~ Adjusting the air distribution
You can manually select the ve nts where the
a ir will flow. To have the air d istribution regu­
la ted automatically, press the
IAUTOI button .
~ Adjusting seat heating*
Pressing the button switches the seat heat ing
on at the highest sett ing (level 3) . The LEDs
indicate the tempe rature leve l. To reduce the
temperature, press the button again. To
switch the seat heating off, press the button
repeatedly until the LED turns off.
After 10 minutes, the seat heating automati­
cally switches from level 3 to leve l 2.
[ill Adjusting seat ventilation*
Pressing the button switches the seat ventila­
tion on at the highest setting (level 3) . The
LE Ds indicate the ventilat ion level. To reduce
the ventilation leve l, press the button again.
To switch the seat ventilat ion off, p ress the
b utton repeatedly until the LED turns off.
I@ FRONT I Switch the defroster on /off
T he w indshield and side windows are defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as
possible . The maximum amount of air flows
mainly from the vents below the windshield.
Recircu lation mode switches off. The tempera­
ture is controlled automatically.
The
i AUTO I button switches the defroster off.
lliil REARI Switching rear window heater
on/off
T he rear window heater only operates when
the engine is running. It switches off auto­
matically after a few minutes, depending on
the outside temperature.
T o p revent the rear window heater from
switching off automatically, press and hold
the
l oo REARI button for more than 2 seconds.
This remains stored until the ignition is
switched off.
Air vents
You can open and close the center and rear air
vents using the thumbwheels. The levers ad­
just the direction of the airflow from the
vents.
In veh icles with a 3-zone deluxe automatic cli­
mate control system*, you can adjust the air
temperature in the rear by turning the thumb­
whee l toward the red side to make it warmer
or toward the blue side to make it cooler.
A WARNING
-- Do not use the recirculation for extended
pe riods of time . The windows could fog
up since no fresh a ir can enter the vehi­
cle. If the windows fog up, p ress the air
recirc ulation button again immediately
to switch off the air recirc ulation func­
tion or se lect defrost .
- I ndividuals w ith reduced sensitivity to
pain or temperature could develop burns
when using the seat heating function. To reduce the risk of injury, these individu ­
als shou ld not use seat heating.

Steering
Manually adjustable steering wheel
The steering wheel position is fully adjustable
up and down and forward and back .

First, adjust the driver's seat correctly.
• Pull the lever

• Move the steering wheel to the desired po­
s it ion.
• Push the lever against the steering col umn
u ntil it locks.
There must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­
tween your chest and the center of the stee~
ing wheel.
If you cannot sit more than 10 in­
ches (25 cm) from the steering wheel, see if
adaptive equipment is available to help you
reach the peda ls and increase the distance
from the steering wheel.

Improper use of steering wheel adjust­
ment and improper seating position can
cause serious personal injury .
- Adjust the steering whee l co lumn on ly
when the vehicle is not moving to pre­
vent loss of vehicle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel
so that there is a minimum of 10 inches
(25 cm) between your chest and the
steering wheel¢

maintain this minimum distance, the air­
bag system cannot protect you properly.
- If physical limitations prevent you from
sitting 10 inches (25 cm) or more from
the steering wheel, check with your au­
thorized Audi dealer to see if adaptive equipment is available .
- If the steering wheel is aligned with your
face, the supplementa l driver's a irbag
cannot provide as much protection in an
accident . Always make sure that the
steer ing whee l is al igned w ith your
chest .
- Always hold the steer ing whee l w ith your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of persona l injury
if the driver's airbag dep loys .
- Never hold the stee ring wheel at the 12
o'clock position or wi th your hands inside
the stee rin g wheel rim or on the steering
wheel hub. Holding the steering wheel
the wrong way can cause serious injuries
to the hands, arms and head if the driv­
er's airbag deploys.
