Accessories, spare parts and modification of your Toyota
Both genuine Toyota and a wide variety of other spare parts and accessories
for Toyota vehicles are currently available on the market. Should it be
determined that any of the genuine Toyota parts or accessories supplied with
the vehicle need to be replaced, Toyota Motor Corporation recommends that
genuine Toyota parts or accessories, be used to replace them. Other parts or
accessories of matching quality can also be used. Toyota cannot accept any
liability or guarantee spare parts and accessories which are not genuine
Toyota products, nor for replacement or installation involving such parts. In
addition, damage or performance problems resulting from the use of non-
genuine Toyota spare parts or accessories may not be covered under
warranty.

CAUTION
When driving on slippery road surfaces
Sudden braking, acceleration and steering may cause tire slippage and
reduce your ability to control the vehicle, resulting in an accident.
Sudden changes in engine speed, such as engine braking caused by up-
shifting or down-shifting, may cause the vehicle to skid, resulting in an
accident.
After driving through a puddle, lightly depress the brake pedal to make
sure that the brakes are functioning properly. Wet brake pads may prevent
the brakes from functioning properly. If the brakes on only one side are wet
and not functioning properly, steering control may be affected, resulting in
an accident.
When shifting the shift lever
Vehicles with a Multidrive: Be careful not to shift the shift lever with the accel-
erator pedal depressed.
This may lead to unexpected rapid acceleration of the vehicle that may
cause an accident and result in death or serious injury.
When the vehicle is stopped
Do not race the engine.
If the vehicle is in any gear other than P (Multidrive only) or N, the vehicle
may accelerate suddenly and unexpectedly, and may cause an accident.
Do not leave the vehicle with the engine running for a long time.
If such a situation cannot be avoided, park the vehicle in an open space
and check that exhaust fumes do not enter the vehicle interior.
Vehicles with a Multidrive: In order to prevent accidents due to the vehicle
rolling away, always keep depressing the brake pedal while the engine is
running, and apply the parking brake as necessary.
If the vehicle is stopped on an incline, in order to prevent accidents caused
by the vehicle rolling forward or backward, always depress the brake pedal
and securely apply the parking brake as needed.
Avoid revving or racing the engine. Running the engine at high speed
while the vehicle is stopped may cause the exhaust system to overheat,
which could result in a fire if combustible material is nearby.

Changing “ENGINE START STOP” switch mode
Modes can be changed by pressing the “ENGINE START STOP”
switch with the brake pedal (vehicles with a Multidrive) or clutch
pedal (vehicles with a manual transmission) released. (The mode
changes each time the switch is pressed.)

Auto power OFF function
Multidrive
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY mode for more than 20 minutes or
IGNITION ON mode (the engine is not running) for more than an hour
with the shift lever in P, the “ENGINE START STOP” switch will automati-
cally turn off. However, this function cannot entirely prevent battery dis-
charge. Do not leave the vehicle with the “ENGINE START STOP” switch
in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode for long periods of time when the
engine is not running.
Manual transmission
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY mode for more than 20 minutes or
IGNITION ON mode (the engine is not running) for more than an hour, the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch will automatically turn off. However, this
function cannot entirely prevent battery discharge. Do not leave the
vehicle with the “ENGINE START STOP” switch in ACCESSORY or
IGNITION ON mode for long periods of time when the engine is not
running.
“ENGINE START STOP” switch operation
When operating the “ENGINE START STOP” switch, push it quickly and
firmly. If the switch is not pushed firmly, the mode may not change or the
engine may not start. Furthermore, if the switch is pushed quickly and firmly,
there is no need to hold it down.

If the shift lever cannot be shifted from P (P. 425)
Automatic gear shifting in 7-Speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic mode
Even when the gear position is fixed while driving, the gear step will be auto-
matically upshifted or downshifted by one step if the engine speed is too
high, or too low.
Downshifting restrictions warning buzzer (vehicles with 7-Speed Sport
Sequential Shiftmatic mode)
To help ensure safety and driving performance, downshifting operation may
sometimes be restricted. In some circumstances, downshifting may not be
possible even when the shift lever is operated. (The warning buzzer will
sound twice.)
If the “M” indicator is not displayed after shifting the shift lever to the
“M” position (vehicles with 7-Speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic mode)
If the display does not change to “M” on an occasion other than that
described above, it may indicate a malfunction in the transmission system.
Have your vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional immediately.
If the “M” indicator flashes (vehicles with 7-Speed Sport Sequential
Shiftmatic mode)
This may indicate a malfunction in the transmission system.

When the vehicle comes to a stop while driving with the shift lever in
the “M” position (vehicles with 7-Speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic
mode)
When the vehicle comes to a stop, the transmission will be automatically
downshifted to the first step.
When the vehicle restarts, the transmission is in the first step.
When the vehicle is stopped, the transmission is fixed in the first step.

Turning on the power
Press when the audio system is turned off.
The audio system can be turned off by holding the switch down until you
hear two beeps.
Selecting audio mode
Press to select the audio mode.
The audio mode changes as follows each time the button is pressed.
CD mode cannot be selected, if there is no CD inserted.
AUX mode cannot be selected, if there is no portable audio device con-
nected.
