The battery back-up sounder is an extraalarm system which will sound a sirenwhen the alarm is triggered. When you lockyour vehicle the system is armed. Thesounder has its own battery and will soundan alarm siren even if someonedisconnects your vehicle battery or thebattery back-up sounder itself.
Triggering the Alarm
Once armed, the alarm is triggered in anyof the following ways:
•If someone opens a door, the liftgateor the hood without a valid key orremote control.
•If someone removes the audio ornavigation system.
•If you switch the ignition on without avalid key.
•If the interior sensors detect movementwithin your vehicle.
•On vehicles with a battery back-upsounder, if someone disconnects yourvehicle battery or the battery back-upsounder itself.
If the alarm is triggered, the alarm horn willsound for 30 seconds and the hazardwarning flasher will flash for five minutes.
Any further attempts to perform one of theabove will trigger the alarm again.
Full and Reduced Guard
Full Guard
Full guard is the standard setting.
In full guard, the interior sensors are onwhen you arm the alarm.
Note:This may result in false alarms ifanimals or moving objects are inside yourvehicle.
Reduced Guard
In reduced guard, the interior sensors areoff when you arm the alarm.
Note:You can set the alarm to reducedguard for the current ignition cycle only. Thealarm will reset to full guard the next timeyou switch the ignition on.
Ask on Exit
You can set the information display to askyou each time which level of guard youwish to set.
If you select Ask on Exit, the messageReduced guard? appears in theinformation display each time you switchthe ignition off. See InformationMessages (page 62).
If you wish to arm the alarm with reducedguard, press the OK button when thismessage appears.
If you wish to arm the alarm with full guard,leave your vehicle without pressing the OKbutton.
Selecting Full or Reduced Guard
Note:Selecting Reduced does not set thealarm permanently to reduced guard. It setsit to reduced guard only for the currentignition cycle. If you regularly set the alarmto reduced guard, select Ask on Exit.
You can select full or reduced guard usingthe information display. See GeneralInformation (page 58).
Arming the Alarm
To arm the alarm, lock your vehicle. SeeLocks (page 29).

Vehicles Without Keyless Entry
Perimeter Alarm
Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors with the key and switching theignition on with a correctly coded key orunlocking the doors with the remotecontrol.
Category One Alarm
Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors with the key and switching theignition on with a correctly coded keywithin 12 seconds or unlocking the doorswith the remote control.
Vehicles with Keyless Entry
Note:A valid passive key must be locatedwithin the detection range of that door forkeyless entry. See Keyless Entry (page 32).
Perimeter Alarm
Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors and switching the ignition on orunlocking the doors with the remotecontrol.
Category One Alarm
Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors and switching the ignition onwithin 12 seconds or unlocking the doorsor the liftgate with the remote control.

Folding the Passenger's SeatForward
WARNINGS
Do not drive with the passenger'sseat folded forwards if the rear orcentre seat behind is occupied.
Do not drive with items on the foldedseatback.
When folding the passenger's seatforward, make sure that you keepclear of the seatback and seat frame.
1.Push the locking lever
2.Fold the seat forward. Make sure thatthe seatback is in the folded positionand securely latched.
3.Push the locking lever to return theseatback to the vertical position. Makesure that the seatback is securelylatched in position.
REAR SEATS
Folding the Seatback
WARNINGS
When folding the seatbacks down,take care not to get your fingerscaught between the seatback andseat frame.
Do not attempt to fold the rear seatcushion forward.
Lower the head restraints. See HeadRestraints (page 76).
1.Press the unlock buttons down andhold them there.
2.Push the seatback forward. As the rearseatback lowers the seat cushion willalso lower.

WARNINGS
When folding the seatbacks up,make sure that the belts are visibleto an occupant and not caughtbehind the seat.
Make sure that the seats and theseatbacks are secure and fullyengaged in their catches.
HEATED SEATS
WARNING
People who are unable to feel painto their skin because of advancedage, chronic illness, diabetes, spinalcord injury, medication, alcohol use,exhaustion or other physical conditions,must exercise care when using the heatedseat. The heated seat may cause burnseven at low temperatures, especially ifused for long periods of time. Do not placeanything on the seat that insulates againstheat, such as a blanket or cushion. Thismay cause the heated seat to overheat.Do not puncture the seat with pins, needlesor other pointed objects. This may damagethe heating element which may cause theheated seat to overheat. An overheatedseat may cause serious personal injury.
Do not do the following:
•Place heavy objects on the seat.
•Operate the heated seat if water or anyother liquid is spilled on the seat. Allowthe seat to dry thoroughly.
•Operate the heated seats unless theengine is running. Doing so could drainyour vehicle battery.

The heated seat will only operate with theignition switched on.
The maximum temperature is reachedafter five or six minutes. It is regulatedthermostatically.
The heated seat will remain on until eitherthe heated seat switch or the ignition isswitched off.

N (Neutral)
In this position, power is not transmittedto the drive wheels but the transmission isnot locked. You can start the engine withthe transmission selector lever in thisposition.
D (Drive)
Note:A shift will occur only when yourvehicle speed and the engine speed areappropriate.
Note:You may temporarily override thecurrent gear selected using the + and -buttons.
Select drive to shift automatically throughthe forward gears.
The transmission will select theappropriate gear for optimum performancebased on ambient temperature, roadgradient, vehicle load and your input.
Sport Mode and Manual Shifting
Sport Mode
Note:In sport mode the transmissionoperates as normal but gears are selectedmore quickly and at higher engine speeds.
Note:In sport mode S will be shown in theinformation display.
Switch on sport mode by moving thetransmission selector lever to position S.Sport mode will remain on until either youshift manually up or down the gears using+ and - or move the transmission selectorlever to position D.
Manual Shifting
WARNINGS
Do not hold the buttons permanentlyin - or +.
WARNINGS
The transmission will automaticallydownshift when the engine speed istoo low.
Press the - button to shift down and pressthe + button to shift up.
Gears may be skipped by pressing thebuttons repeatedly at short intervals.
Manual mode also provides a kickdownfunction. See Kickdown.
Hints on Driving With anAutomatic Transmission
WARNING
Do not idle the engine for longperiods of time in drive with thebrakes applied.
Moving Off
1.Release the parking brake.
2.Release the brake pedal and press theaccelerator pedal.
Stopping
1.Release the accelerator pedal andpress the brake pedal.
2.Apply the parking brake.
3.Move the transmission selector leverto N or P.
Kickdown
Press the accelerator pedal fully with thetransmission selector lever in the driveposition to select the next lowest gear foroptimum performance. Release theaccelerator pedal when you no longerrequire kickdown.

Use load securing straps to anapproved standard, e.g. DIN.
Make sure that you secure all looseitems properly.
Place luggage and other loads as lowand as far forward as possible withinthe luggage or loadspace.
Do not drive with the tailgate or reardoor open. Exhaust fumes may enteryour vehicle.
Do not exceed the maximum frontand rear axle loads for your vehicle.See Vehicle Identification Plate(page 167).
