Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
For the airbags to be fully effective, observe the following safety rules:
Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resting your hands on the centre par t of the wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet on thedashboard.
If possible, do not smoke as deployment of the airbags can cause burns or the risk of injury from a cigarette or pipe.
Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently.
Lateral airbags
Use only approved covers on the seats, compatible with the deployment the lateral airbags. For information on the range of seat covers suitable for your vehicle, you cancontact a CITROËN dealer (see "Practicalinformation - § Accessories").
Do not fix or attach anything to the seat backs (clothing...). This could cause injury to the chest or arms if the lateral airbag isdeployed.
Do not sit with the upper par t of the body any nearer to the door than necessary.
Curtain airbags
Do not fix or attach anything to the roof. This could cause injury to the head if thecurtain airbag is deployed.
If fitted on your vehicle, do not remove the grab handles installed on the roof, they play a par t in securing the cur tain airbags.
Sit in a normal upright position.
Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.
Do not leave anything between the occupantsand the airbags (a child, pet, object...). This could hamper the operation of the airbags or injure the occupants. After an accident or if the vehicle has beenstolen or broken into, have the airbagsystems checked. All work on the airbag system must be carriedout by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Even if all of the precautions mentioned are obser ved, a risk of injury or of minor burns to the head, chest or arms when an airbag is deployed cannot be ruled out. The
bag inflates almost instantly (within a few milliseconds) then deflates within the sametime discharging the hot gas via openings provided for this purpose.

12 V battery
Procedure for starting the engine using another battery or for charging your flat battery.
The battery is located under the bonnet.
For access to the (+) terminal:
) Release the bonnet using the interior lever,
then the exterior safety catch, ) raise the bonnet and secure it with its stay, )
lift the plastic cover for access to the (+)
terminal.
Access to the battery
After refitting the battery, the Stop & Start system will only be active after acontinuous period of immobilisation of the vehicle, a period which depends on the climatic conditions and the state of charge of the battery (up to about 8 hours).
The presence of this label, in particular with the Stop & Star t system, indicatesthe use of a 12 V lead-acid battery withspecial technology and specification;
the involvement of a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop is essential when replacing or disconnecting the battery.
Check that the battery posts and terminals are clean. If they are coveredwith sulphate (white or green deposit), disconnect them and clean them.
Batteries contain harmful substancessuch as sulphuric acid and lead. Theymust be disposed of in accordancewith regulations and must not, in any circumstances, be discarded with household waste. Ta k e used cell batteries and vehiclebatteries to an authorised collection point.
Before doing any work
Immobilise the vehicle: apply theparking brake, put the gearbox inneutral *
, then switch off the ignition. Check that all electrical equipment is switched off.
*
or position Pfor an automatic gearbox.
273Practical information
Charging the battery using
a battery charger
If the battery of your vehicle is flat or prior
to taking the vehicle out of ser vice for an extended period, you can charge the battery
using a battery charger.
For information on the specification of batterychargers compatible with your battery, refer to
a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
The Stop & Start battery does not haveto be disconnected for charging.
Reinitialisation after
reconnection
After any reconnection of the battery, switch on
the ignition and wait at least one minute before
starting, to allow time for the initialisation of theelectronic systems.
By referring to the corresponding sections, you should set or initialise the following systems yourself:
- one-touch electric windows,
- time and date,
- audio and navigation system settings.
It is recommended that the battery be disconnected if the vehicle is not be used for more than a month.
Check that no aler t message or warning lamp comes on after switching on the ignition.
However, if minor problems persist after carrying out these operations, contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Before disconnecting
)Go to the battery. )Check that all of the openings - doors, boot... - are closed but not locked. )Wait at least four minutes after switchingoff the ignition.
Charging
)
Disconnect the (+)terminal. )
Follow the instructions on use provided by
the manufacturer of the charger. ) Connect the red cable of the charger to the (+) post of the battery, then the black cable
to the (-) terminal. ) Once charging is complete, disconnect thecharger cables in reverse order.
The charging operation must be carried outin a well ventilated area and well away from naked flames and sources of sparks, so as to avoid any risk of explosion and fire. Do not try to charge a frozen battery; the
battery must first be thawed out to avoid any risk of explosion. If the battery hasfrozen, before charging, have it checkedby a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop, who will ensure that the internal components have not been damaged and that the casing is not cracked, which wouldintroduce the risk of a leak of toxic and corrosive acid.
