Instrument s and warning /indicator lights 13
The ICHECK I button performs the following
functions:
Switching on the clock and odometer
W ith the ignition turned off, the odometer
reading and the digital clock with date display
can be switched on for about 30 seconds by
pressing the
I CH ECKi button¢ fig. 6.
Starting the Auto-Check sequence
The Auto-Check system ¢ page 30 constant­
ly monitors certain individual funct ions and
components of the vehicle when the ignit ion
is turned on and when the veh icle is moving.
W ith the ignition turned on, you can start the
"Au to-Check sequence" by pressing the
IC HECKI button. Yo u can perform an A uto­
Check sequence when the vehicle is stationary
and the ignition is turned on or when the vehi­
cle is moving not faster than 3 mph (5 km/h) .
The n umber of keys programmed to the vehi­
cle is also displayed. The d isp lay
3\3 indicates
that three keys have been programmed . This
allows you to make sure you have received all
of the keys when you purchase a used vehicle.
F or example, if you on ly receive two keys, you
should take those keys to your authorized Au­
di dealer to have the missing key deactivated
so it cannot be used. You should a lso report
the missing key to your insurance company.
Call ing up the driver information
A yellow or red symbol appears in the instru­
ment cluster display, usually with a driver
message. The driver message display disap­
pears after about S seconds. The driver mes­
sage can be displayed again by briefly press­ ing the
! CHECK I button.
Setting the speed warning
By pressing the ICHECK I button briefly, you
can set threshold 1 of the speed warning whi
le you are driving

taining pressure on the
I CH ECKi button, you
delete the warning threshold.
Instrument cluster illumination
The basic brightness of the illumination for
the instruments, the center console and the
display can be adjusted.

~ Press the"+" button to increase the bright­
ness dur ing the hours of darkness .
~ Press the"-" butto n to decrease the bright-
ness dur ing the hours of darkness.
A light sensor in the instrument cluster con­
trols the illuminat ion for the instrument clus­
ter, the center console and the displays. In a
brigh t env iron ment, using the buttons to
change the brightness has no effect.
(D Tips
The illum ination for the inst rument cluster
light s up whenever you switch on the igni­
tion with the vehicle headlights off. As the
daylight fades, the instrument cluster illu­
mination likewise dims automatically and
will go out completely when the outside light is very low. This feature is meant to
remind you to switch on the headlights
when outside light conditions become
poor .

Valet key function
The valet key function prevents unauthorized
persons from opening the glove compart­
ment.

When the function is switched on, the buttons for opening the rear lid and glove compart­
ment have no function. The vehicle can be
d riven and locked and unloc ked w ith the mas­
ter key.

Be sure to activate the funct ion befo re
handing over the valet key to someone
else . The va let key only fits the lock in the
driver's door and the ignition lock.
Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
The power locking system in your vehicle in­
corporates the fo llowing functions:

All the doors and the rear lid are locked by the
central locking system when you lock the vehi­
cle. You can set whether generally only the
driver 's door or all doors and the rear lid
should be unlocked when you open the vehicle
in the MMI menu

Unlocking the vehicle
You can unlock the vehicle from outside either
by using the remote control
or by inserting
and turning the key in the driver's door lock .
When you
unlock your vehicle :
- The anti-theft alarm system is deactivated
briefly .
- The vehicle interior lights illuminate for ap­
proximately 30 seconds .
- All turn signal lights will flash twice when
the car is unlocked .
- After un locking the vehicle, you have 60 sec­
onds to open a door or the rear lid. After 60
seconds, the vehicle automatically locks and
the anti-theft alarm system act ivates aga in .
The rear lid can be locked or unlocked either
by using the remote control
or by inserting
and turning the key in the driver's door lock.
Unlocking the vehicle with the remote control
will on ly
unlock the rear lid, to open it, the lid
handle needs to be pressed .
Locking the vehicle
You can lock the vehicle from outside either by
using the remote control
or by inserting and
turning the key in the drivers's door lock .
When you
lock the veh icle:
- All doors and the rear lid are locked.
- All turn signal lights will flash once when
the car is locked.
- The ant i-theft alarm system is activated.

- After clos ing the rear lid, always pull up

- T o help p revent po isonous exha ust gas
from being drawn into the veh icl e, al­
ways keep the rear lid cl osed while driv­
ing. Never transport objec ts larger t han
those whi ch fit completely into the lug ­
gage area, because then the rear Lid can ­
not be fully closed.
- Never leave yo ur vehicle u nattended es ­
pecially with the rea r lid left ope n. A
child could crawl into the car through the
luggage compartment and pull the Lid
shut, becom ing trapped and unab le to
get out . To reduce the risk of persona l in­
jury, never let ch ildren play in or around
yo ur vehicl e. A lways ke ep th e rear Lid as
we ll as the vehicle doo rs closed when not
in use.
- Always ensure t hat no one is w it hi n
range of the rear lid whe n it is mov ing, in
p artic ula r clo se to t he h inges - fingers or
hands can be pinched .

The trunk lid can be opened and closed auto­
matically.

- As soon as the electrical connec tion to
the trailer socket is completed on vehi­
cles with a factory installed towing h itch,
or a trailer hitch that was installed later
according to factory specifications, the
automat ic rear lid function can on ly be
operated via the handle in the rear lid.
Rear lid emergency unlocking
If the rear lid cannot be opened, an emergen­
cy release is provided .

The power child safety lock t prevents the
rear doors from being opened from the in ­
side .

disab le the rear power window(s) and pre­
vent the respective rear door from being

When the c hild safety lock is activated, the in­
te rior door opening lever is inoperative; the
doo r can only be opened from th e outside. In
addition, the window regu lator for that doo r
is also inoperative when the child safety lock

one or both sides, the butto ns in the rear for
the Panoramic slid ing su nroof* are disabled .

-In order to activate the chi ld safety lock
on the left and the right side, you have to press the two safety buttons in succes­

Convenience key
Description
A pp lies to vehicles: with Convenie nce key
Access and vehicle operation based on: Mas­
ter key remains in driver 's pocket .
The Convenience key veh icle authorization
system allows
keyless unlock ing , locking and
starting of the vehicle . You only have to carry
the master key on your pe rson.
It makes no d ifference whether the master
key is in your jacket pocket or in your brief
case . As soon as you approach your vehicle,
the Convenience key recognizes the request
for access, checks for a uthorization and ena ­
b les the fo llowing functions:
- Unlocking the vehicle~
page 49.
-Locking the vehicle~ page 50.
-Switching on ignition and starting the en -
gine by pressing the
I START! button; the
master key does not have to be in the igni­
t ion switch
~page 107.
_& WARNING
-When you lock your vehicle from outside,
nobody- especially ch ildren -should re­
main inside the vehicle. Remember,
when you lock the vehicle from the out­
side the windows cannot be opened from
the ins ide .
- When you leave the vehicle, always re­
move the ignition key and take it with
you. This will prevent passengers (chil­
dren, for example) from accidentally be­
ing locked in the veh icle should they acci-

in the front doors.
- Do not leave chi ldren inside the vehicle
unsupervised. In an emergency it would
be imposs ible to open the doors from
the outside without the key.
(D Tips
- In order for the Convenience key to func­
tion, you must a lways carry the master
key with you .
- In order to be able to unlock or lock the
vehicle, the author ized master key must
be within a range of about S feet (l.S
meters) from the door or the rear lid.
- Of course, you can still unlock and lock
your vehicle using the buttons on the
master key . The selector lever must be in
the P position .

A door is unlocked as soon as you approach
the door handle and the system recognizes an
authorized master key. The vehicle can be un­
locked at any door. The authorized master key
on ly has to be within a range of about 5 feet
(1.5 meters) from the respective doo r.

right re ar door and
the buttons in the rear for the Panoramic
sliding sunroof* are deactivated . In addi ­
tion, the door is locked.
T his feature has been provided for the safety
of small children riding in the rear of the ve hi­
cle .
(D Tips
- T he windows can sti ll be opened and
closed for about ten minutes after the
ignition has been t urned off . The powe r
w indows are not shut off unt il one of the
front doors is opened.
- In order to act ivate the child safety lock
on the left and the right side, you have to
press the two safety switches in succes­
sion . Make certa in that the check light
comes on the correspond ing safety

unattended in the vehicle -they could be
injured!
- Exercise caution when adjusting the seat
height. Unsupervised or careless seat ad­
justment can pinch fingers or hands
causing injur ies.
- While the vehicle is moving, the seat­
backs of the front seats must not be in­
clined too far to the rear because the ef­
fectiveness of the safety belts and the
airbag system is severely compromised -
there is a risk of injury.
- To reduce the r isk of injury in the case of
sudden braking or accident, front pas­
sengers must never ride in a moving ve­
hicle wi th the seatback reclined. Safety
belts and the airbag system only offer
maximum protection when the seatback
is upright and the safety be lts are prop­
erly positioned on the body. The more
the seatback is reclined, the greater the
risk of personal injury from an incorrect
seating pos ition and improperly posi­
t ioned safety belts.

Ap plies to vehicles: with seat memo ry
The seat adjustment settings for two drivers
can be stored using the memory buttons in
the driver's door.

Storing and recalling settings
Using the memory buttons 1 and 2, you can
store and recall the settings for two different drivers ¢
fig. 75.
The current settings are also automatical ly as­
s ig ned to the remote control key being used
when the vehicle is locked. When the vehicle
is un locked, the settings assigned to the re­
mote control key being used are automatically
recalled. This function has to be activated in
the M MI ¢
page 7 4, Activating remote con­
trol key memory.
Turning seat memory on and off
If the I ON/O FF I switch is depressed, the seat
memory is inoperative. The word
OFF next to
the
ION/O FF I switch illuminates.
All the stored settings are retained. We rec­
ommend using the
ION/OF F I switch and deac­
tivating the seat memory if the vehicle is only
going to be used
temporarily by a driver
whose settings are not going to be stored.
Storing and recalling a seat position

Before you can store or recall your seat pos i­
tion, the
ION /OFF! button must be engaged
(down) .

the tilt-down position, the passenger mirror
