We recommend that you practice park ing with
the rear v iew camera in a traffic-free locat ion
or parking lot to become familiar w ith the sys­
tem, the orientation l ines, and their funct ion .
When doing th is, there shou ld be good light
and weather conditions.
In the MMI display, objects or vehicles appear
closer or further away if:
- you are driving in reverse gear from a level surface onto an incline or a downward slope,
- you are driving in reverse gear toward pro­
truding objects,
- the vehicle is carrying too much load in the
rear.
The accuracy of the orientat ion lines and blue
surfaces diminishes if: -
the rear view camera does not provide a reli­
ab le image, for example, in poor visibility
conditions or if the lens is dirty,
- the image on the screen is not visib le due to
sun glare and reflection.
Caring for the rear view camera lens
T he rea r view camera is located above the rear
lic ense plate bracket. For the parking system
to operate, the lens

clean:
- Dampen the lens w ith a household alcohol­
based g lass cleaner, and then wipe the lens
clean with a dry cloth

-Remove snow with a hand br ush and ice
preferably with a de-ic ing spray

_& WARNING ,= --Sensors have blind spots in which objects
cannot be detected . Pay specia l attention
to small children and an imals because
the sensors cannot always detect them.
- The parking system cannot replace the
driver's attention. The driver alone is re­
sponsible for parking and similar driving
maneuvers.
- Always keep your eyes on the vehicle's
surroundings, using the rear view mirror
as well.
- Do not allow yourself to be distracted
from traffic by the rea r view camera pic­
tures.
- If the position and the installation angle
of the camera has changed, for example,
after a rear end coll ision, do not continue
to use the system for safety reasons .
Hav e it checked by a qualified dealership.
(D Note
-Low obstacles a lready s ignaled by a
warning can disappear from the system's detection range as they are approached
and will not continue to be signaled. Ob­
jects such as barrier chains, trailer draw
bars, thin painted vertical poles or fen­
ces may not be detected by the system,
posing risk of damage.

-Never use warm or hot water to remove
snow or ice from the rear view camera l ens - th is could cause the lens to crack!
- When cleaning the lens, never use prod­
ucts that are abrasive .
Switching on and off

The rear view camera switches on automati­
cally together with the acoustic and visual
park assist when you put the vehicle in re­
verse .

A WARNING
- The MMI display cannot show, or cannot
adequate ly show, certa in objects (such as
small posts o r grating), recesses in the
ground and protrud ing parts on another
car.
- Only use the rear v iew camera to assist
you if it shows a good, clear pictu re . For
example, the image may be affected by

the sun shining into the lens, dirt on the
lens or if there is a defect .
- Use the rear view camera on ly with the
rear lid comp lete ly closed. Make sure any
objects you may have mounted on the
rear lid do not b lock the rear v iew cam­
era.
(D Tips
- The sensors must be kept clean and free
of snow and ice for the park assist to op­
erate .
- If your veh icle is near an obstacle, an ad­
ditional v isual ind icator appears in the
rearview camera image . Th is superim­
posed image is there to help you to de­
termined wh ich area of the vehicle is af­
fected .
- Yo u can change the volume and pitch of
the s ignals as we ll as the disp lay

The following steps apply only when there is
no obstacle such as a wall near the parking
spot. Otherwise, please read the information
prov ided in the "Parking Next to Obstacles"
section

~ Activate the turn signal.
~ Position your vehicle parallel to the edge of
the street, approximately 3 ft (1 meter)
from a parked vehicle.
~ Switc h the MMI on and se lect reverse gear.

~ Press the contro l bu tton (D c::> fig. 124 on
the MMI contro l conso le. Parking mode 2
appea rs .
~ Back up and align your vehicle so t he blue
area @ borders on the rear end of the vehi­
cle or on the parking spot line. The blue area
represents an extension of the vehicle's out­
line by approximate ly 16 ft (5 meters) to the
rear. The long side of the blue area should
be o n the curb . The entire blue area must fit
i nto the parking spot .
~ With the vehicle stopped, turn the steer ing
whee l to the right as far as it w ill go.
~ Back into the park ing spot until the blue
cu rve to uches the curb

Parking next to obstacles
When t here is an obstacle (such as a wall)
next to the pa rking spot, choose a spot wit h
mo re space on t he sides. Pos ition the long
side of the b lue a rea so that there is sufficient
space from the curb. The a rea m ust no t be on
the c urb. You w ill also need to start turn ing
the steering wheel much earlier. T he re should
be a suffic ient amo unt of space between the
curb and the blue c urve, and the blue cu rve
c::> fig. 125 must not touch the curb.

Mu sic vo lume whil e parking -when the park­
ing system is switched on, the volume of the
active audio sou rce is lowered.
The newly adjusted value is briefly heard from
the signa l generator.
(Di Tips
- The warning tones can a lso be adjusted
directly by the v isual display or the p ic­
ture from the rear v iew camera. Simp ly
press the
S etting s contro l button.
- Changed settings are activated when
parking system is switched on again.
-The sett ings are automatically stored
and ass igned to the remote control key.
Error messages

There is an error in the system if the LED on
the ~ switch is blinking and you hear a con­
tinuous alarm for a few seconds after switch­ ing on the parking system or when the park­
i ng system is already act ivated. Have your au­
thor ized Audi dealer correct the e rror .
{D) Tips
If the error is not corrected before you
sw itch off the ignition, when you switch on
the par king system aga in, the LED in the
~ switch w ill blink.

Programming a button
The requ ired distan ce between the handheld
transmitter and the Homelink module in the
bumper depends on the system that you are
programming. You may have to try several
times.
Each of the buttons can be reprogrammed in­
dividua lly . The procedure is the same as fo r in­
itial programming .

Erasing the button programming
Individual buttons can be reprogrammed. Fol­
low the same steps used when first prog ram ­
ming the button .
If you would like to erase all programmed but­
tons at the same time, sele ct Erase button
programming .

140 Airbag sys tem
If the front passenger airbag is turned off , the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes on in
the instrument cluster and stays on .
I f the front passenger airbag deploys, the
F ederal Standard requires the airbag to meet
the " low risk" deployment criteria to reduce
the r isk of in jury through interaction with the
a irbag. "Low ris k" deployment oc curs in tho se
c rashe s that take pl ace a t lower decele ra tions
as defined in the electronic control un it

A lw ays r emember, a chi ld seat or infant carri­
er installed on the front seat may be s truck
and knocked out of position by the rap idly in ­
flati ng passenger's a irbag i n a frontal colli­
sion . The airbag could greatly reduce the ef­
fectiveness of t he ch ild restrai nt and even se­
r io usly in ju re the child during infla tion.
For this reason, and because the back seat is
the safest place for chi ldren - when p roperly
r estra ined a ccord ing to the ir age and size - we
strongly recommend t hat childre n always si t
in the back seat

& WARNING
-
A child in a rearward -facing child seat in ­
stalled on the front passenger seat will be
ser iously injured and can be killed if the
front airbag inflates - even with an Ad­
vanced Airbag System.
- The inflating a irbag will hit the child seat
or infant carrier w ith great force and w ill
smash the ch ild seat and child against
the bac krest , cen ter armres t, door or
roof.
- Always install rear-facing child seats on
the rear seat.
- If you must i nstall a rearward facing
child seat on the front passenge r seat

cause serious persona l injury to the
child .

-If, in except ional circumstances, you m ust
i nstall a forward-facing child restraint on
the front passenge r's seat:
- Always make sur e the forward-facing
seat has been designe d and certified by
its m anufacture r for u se on a fron t se at
wit h a passenger fron t and s ide airba g.
- Never p ut t he fo rward -facing child re­
s tra int up agains t or ve ry near the instru­
men t pa nel.
- Always move the passenge r seat into it s
rearmost pos ition in the seat' s fore and
aft a djustmen t range, as fa r away from
the air bag as possible before installing
the forwar d-facing ch ild restra int . The
backrest must be ad justed to an upright
position.
- Make sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG

li ght comes on and stays on all the
time whenever the ignit ion is switched
on .

ESP turns on automa tic ally when you start
t he engine.

Switching sport mode on

wheel dr ive, the anti -s lip reg ulation (ASR) is

-Drive whee ls can spin and you can lose
control of the vehicle more easily when
ASR and ESP are in sport mode, especial­
ly when the road is slippe ry .
- Sw itch to sport mode only whe n your
driving skills, traffic and weather condi ­
tions perm it.
@ Tips
- You cannot switch sport mode on when
adaptive cru ise contro l* is working .

- If the rear spoi ler system malfunct ions,
sport mode may not switc h on or it may
switch off agai n automatically .
Rear spoiler
The rear spoiler improves vehicle handling
and enhances driver control.

The rea r spoi le r deploys and retracts. Spoiler
operation can be se t fo r automat ic or ma nual
operation.
Automatic mode (normal operation)
- Au tomatic deployment : At a speed of about
8 0 mph (130 km/h), the rea r spo ile r deploys
au tomatically.
- Automati c retr act ion: When speed drops be­
low abou t 50 mph (80 km/h), the rear spoil-
