Vehicles without a smart entry & start system
The lights automatically turn on/off according to the engine switch position,
whether the doors are locked/unlocked, and whether the doors are open/
closed.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system
The lights automatically turn on/off according to “ENGINE START STOP”
switch mode, the presence of the electronic key, whether the doors are
locked/unlocked, and whether the doors are open/closed.
To prevent the battery from being discharged
If the interior light and “ENGINE START STOP” switch light (if equipped)
remain on when the door is not fully closed and the interior light switch is in
the “DOOR” position, the lights will go off automatically after 20 minutes.
Customization
Settings (e.g. The time elapsed before lights turn off) can be changed.

Cigarette lighter
The cigarette lighter can be used when
Vehicles without smart entry & start system
The engine switch is in the “ACC” or “ON” position.
Vehicles with smart entry & start system
The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in the ACCESSORY or IGNITION
ON mode.
CAUTION
To avoid burns or fires
Do not touch the metal parts of the cigarette lighter.
Do not hold the cigarette lighter down. It could overheat and cause a fire.
Do not insert anything other than the cigarette lighter into the outlet.
Push the cigarette lighter
down.
The cigarette lighter will pop up
when ready for use.

Seat heaters
: If equipped
The seat heaters can be used when
Vehicles without smart entry & start system
The engine switch is in the “ON” position.
Vehicles with smart entry & start system
The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in the IGNITION ON mode.
When not in use
Turn the seat heater off. The indicator light turns off.
Heats the left front seat
Heats the right front seat
The indicator light comes on.

4-1. Maintenance and care
Cleaning and protecting the vehicle exterior
Automatic car washes
Fold the mirrors and remove the antenna before washing the vehicle.
Start washing from the front of the vehicle. Make sure to re-install the
antenna and extend the mirrors before driving.
Brushes used in automatic car washes may scratch the vehicle surface
and harm your vehicle’s paint.
High pressure car washes
Do not allow the nozzles of the car wash to come within close proximity
of the windows.
Before car wash, check that the fuel filler door on your vehicle is closed
properly.
Perform the following to protect the vehicle and maintain it in prime
condition.
Working from top to bottom, liberally apply water to the vehicle
body, wheel wells and underside of the vehicle to remove any
dirt and dust.
Wash the vehicle body using a sponge or soft cloth, such as a
chamois.
For hard-to-remove marks, use car wash soap and rinse thor-
oughly with water.
Wipe away any water.
Wax the vehicle when the waterproof coating deteriorates.
If water does not bead on a clean surface, apply wax when the vehicle
body is cool.

CAUTION
The engine compartment contains many mechanisms and fluids that may
move suddenly, become hot, or become electrically energized. To avoid death
or serious injury observe the following precautions.
When working on the engine compartment
Keep hands, clothing, and tools away from the moving fan and engine
drive belt.
Be careful not to touch the engine, radiator, exhaust manifold, etc. right
after driving as they may be hot. Oil and other fluids may also be hot.
Do not leave anything that may burn easily, such as paper or rags, in the
engine compartment.
Do not smoke, cause sparks or expose an open flame to fuel or the bat-
tery. Fuel and battery fumes are flammable.
Be extremely cautious when working on the battery. It contains poisonous
and corrosive sulfuric acid.
Take care because brake fluid can harm your hands or eyes and damage
painted surfaces.
If fluid gets on your hands or in your eyes, flush the affected area with
clean water immediately.
If you still experience discomfort, see a doctor.
When working near the electric cooling fan or radiator grille
Vehicles without smart entry & start system: Be sure the engine switch is in
the “LOCK” position.
With the engine switch in the “ON” position, the electric cooling fan may
automatically start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or the coolant tem-
perature is high. (P. 367)
Vehicles with smart entry & start system: Be sure the “ENGINE START
STOP” switch is OFF.
With the “ENGINE START STOP” switch in the IGNITION ON mode, the
electric cooling fan may automatically start to run if the air conditioning is on
and/or the coolant temperature is high. (P. 367)

CAUTION
When raising your vehicle
Make sure to observe the following to reduce the possibility of death or seri-
ous injury.
When using a floor jack, follow the instructions of the manual provided with
the jack.
Do not use the jack that was supplied with your vehicle.
Do not put any part of your body underneath the vehicle when it is sup-
ported only by the floor jack.
Always use floor jack and/or automotive jack stands on a solid, flat, level
surface.
Do not start the engine while the vehicle is supported by the floor jack.
Stop the vehicle on level firm ground, firmly set the parking brake and shift
the shift lever in “R”.
Make sure to set the floor jack properly at the jack point.
Raising the vehicle with an improperly positioned floor jack will damage
the vehicle and may cause the vehicle to fall off the floor jack.
Do not raise the vehicle while someone is in the vehicle.
When raising the vehicle, do not place any objects on top of or underneath
the floor jack.
Lift up the vehicle using a floor jack
such as the one shown in the illustra-
tion.

After changing the engine oil (diesel engine only)
The oil change system should be reset. Perform the following procedures:
Vehicles without smart entry & start system
Switch the display to trip meter A (P. 190) when the engine is run-
ning.
Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position.
While pressing the “MODE” button, set the engine switch to the
“ON” position (but do not start the engine because otherwise the
reset mode will be canceled). Continue to press and hold the button
until the multi-information display indicates that the reset is com-
plete.
Vehicles with smart entry & start system
Switch the display to trip meter A (P. 190) when the engine is run-
ning.
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch OFF.
While pressing the “MODE” button, set the “ENGINE START
STOP” switch to the IGNITION ON mode (but do not start the
engine because otherwise the reset mode will be canceled). Con-
tinue to press and hold the button until the multi-information display
indicates that the reset is complete.
