i The exterior lamps (except standing
lamps or parking lamps) go out
automatically when you open the driver’s
door with the ignition switched off or
remove the SmartKey from the starter
switch.
When the parking lamps are switched on
and you remove the SmartKey from the
starter switch and open the driver’s door,
an acoustic signal sounds.
In addition the message Switch Off
Lights appears in the multifunction
display.
Switch off the parking lamps manually.
! Failure to switch off the parking lamps
when leaving the vehicle may result in a
discharged battery.
i For better detection of the vehicle, the
LED daytime running lamps are dimmed to
parking lamp level when the low-beam
headlamps are switched on.
Low-beam headlamps
The low-beam headlamps can be switched on
and off with the exterior lamp switch.
XSwitch on the ignition.XSwitching on: Turn the exterior lamp
switch to position 0064.
The following lamps come on:
R Low-beam headlamps
R Parking lamps 5
R Green indicator lamp 0064 in the
instrument cluster
Automatic headlamp mode
GWarning!
If the exterior lamp switch is set to 0066, the
headlamps will not automatically come on
under foggy conditions. This could endanger
you and/or others. Thus, turn the exterior
lamp switch to 0064 under foggy conditions.
The automatic headlamp feature is only an aid
to the driver. The driver is responsible for the
operation of the vehicle’s lights at all times.
XSwitching on: Turn the exterior lamp
switch to position 0066.
When ambient light is low: When the
KEYLESS-GO start/stop button has been
pressed once or when the SmartKey is in
starter switch position 1, the parking lamps 5
come on automatically.
When the engine is running, the low-beam
headlamps come on additionally.
When ambient light is bright: When the
KEYLESS-GO start/stop button has been
pressed once or when the SmartKey is in
starter switch position 1, all lamps are off.
When the engine is running, the daytime
running lamps 6
come on automatically.
When the low-beam headlamps are switched
on, the green indicator lamp 0064 in the
instrument cluster comes on.

The rear view camera is only an aid and may
display obstacles
R from a distorted perspective
R inaccurately
R may not display obstacles at all
The rear view camera does not relieve you of
the responsibility to be cautious. Take care
and pay careful attention. The rear view
camera may not show objects which are
R very close to the rear bumper
R under the rear bumper
You are responsible for safety at all times and
must continue to pay attention to the
immediate surroundings when parking and
maneuvering. This includes the area behind,
in front of, and beside the vehicle. Otherwise
you could endanger yourself and/or others.
GWarning!
The rear view camera either will not function
or will not function to its full capability if
R the trunk lid is open
R it is raining very hard, snowing or foggy
R it is night or you are parking/maneuvering
your vehicle in an area where it is very dark
R the camera is exposed to a very bright white
light
R the immediate surroundings are
illuminated with fluorescent light (the
COMAND system display can flicker)
R there is a sudden change in temperature,
e.g. if you drive into a heated garage from
the cold (lens condensation)
R the camera lens is dirty or covered
R the rear of your vehicle is damaged
In this case, have the position and setting
of the camera checked by a qualified
specialist workshop. Mercedes-Benz
recommends that you contact a Mercedes-
Benz Center for this purpose.
Do not use the rear view camera in these
situations. Otherwise you could injure
yourself or others and/or damage property
including your vehicle while parking/
maneuvering.
Camera lens 0046 must be free of dirt, ice,
snow, and slush to function properly. Clean
the camera lens regularly. Being careful not
to scratch or damage the camera lens, see
“Cleaning the rear view camera lens”
( Y page 357).
Switching on or off
XSwitching on: Switch on the ignition.XMake sure the rear view camera is switched
on in the COMAND system ( Y page 99).XSwitch on the COMAND system.XShift the transmission to reverse gear R.
The area behind the vehicle appears in the
COMAND system display.
i The image from the rear view camera will
no longer be displayed if you select another
function on the COMAND system while
reverse gear R is engaged. To display the
image again, disengage and reengage
reverse gear R.
XSwitching off: Shift the transmission into
park position P, neutral position N, or drive

Replacing bulbs
Safety notes
Safe vehicle operation depends on proper
exterior lighting and signaling to a large
degree.
Correct headlamp adjustment is extremely
important. Have headlamps checked and
readjusted at regular intervals and when a
bulb has been replaced. Contact an
authorized Mercedes-Benz Center for
headlamp adjustment.
GWarning!
Bulbs and bulb sockets can be very hot. Allow
the lamp to cool down before changing a bulb.
Keep bulbs out of reach of children.
Halogen lamps contain pressurized gas. A
bulb can explode if you
R touch or move it when hot
R drop the bulb
R scratch the bulb
Wear eye and hand protection.
Because of high voltage in Xenon lamps, it is
dangerous to replace the bulb or repair the
lamp and its components. We recommend
that you have such work done by a qualified
technician.
i Since replacing bulbs is a technically
highly demanding process, we recommend
to have them replaced at an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
i If the headlamps are fogged up on the
inside as a result of high humidity, driving
the vehicle a distance with the lights on
should clear up the fogging.
Replacing bulbs for front lamps
You cannot replace the bulbs in the front
lamps yourself. Contact an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center or a qualified
workshop.
Replacing bulbs for rear lamps
Except for the license plate lamp bulbs, you
cannot replace the bulbs in the rear lamps
yourself.
License plate lamps
A bulb of type C 5 W is required.
XSwitch off the ignition.XTurn the exterior lamp switch to position
0027 .XInsert a flat, blunt object into gap 0046
between the lamp lens and the housing.
The latches are released.XPull out the lamp lens together with the flat,
blunt object out of the housing.XReplace the bulb.XInsert the lens of license plate lamp and
press it in until it audibly engages.
Replacing wiper blades
Safety notes
GWarning!
For safety reasons, switch off the wipers and
remove the SmartKey from the starter switch
(KEYLESS-GO: Make sure the vehicle’s on-
board electronics have status 0) before
replacing a wiper blade. Otherwise, the wiper
motor could suddenly turn on and cause
injury.
