
Speedometer with segments
The segments in the speedometer indicate
which speed range is available.
DISTRONIC mode:
One or two segments around the stored
speed light up.
Operating the on-board computer
The on-board computer is activated as soon
as you turn the SmartKey to position 1 in the
ignition lock.
You can control the multifunction display and
the settings in the on-board computer using
the buttons on the multifunction steering
wheel.

Displaying the coolant temperature
GWarning
Driving when your engine is overheated can
cause some fluids which may have leaked into
the engine compartment to catch fire. You
could be seriously burned.
Steam from an overheated engine can cause
serious burns which can occur just by opening
the engine hood. Stay away from the engine
if you see or hear steam coming from it.
Stop the vehicle in a safe location away from
other traffic. Turn off the engine, get out of the
vehicle and do not stand near the vehicle until
the engine has cooled down.XPress V or U on the steering wheel
to select the standard display.XPress the & or * button to select the
coolant temperature.
Under normal driving conditions, with the
correct anti-corrosion and antifreeze additive
concentration, the reading may rise to
248 ‡(120 †).
! If the coolant temperature exceeds
248 ‡(120 †) do not continue driving. The
engine will otherwise be damaged.
Displaying the digital speedometer or
outside temperature
If you have selected the digital speedometer
for the status line ( Y page 222), the outside
temperature will be displayed here.

Trip computer menu
Trip computer "From start" or "From
reset"
The values in the From Start submenu refer
to the start of your journey, while those in the
From Reset submenu refer to the last time
you reset this submenu.
XPress V or U on the steering wheel
to select the trip computer menu.XPress & or * to select From Start

The From Start trip computer is reset
automatically when
R the ignition has been switched off for more
than 4 hours.
R 999 hours have been exceeded.

The From Reset trip computer is
automatically reset if the trip exceeds
9999 hours or 99,999 miles.
You can select Km or Miles as the unit of
measurement for distance ( Y page 221).
Resetting valuesXPress V or U on the steering wheel
to select the trip computer menu. XPress & or * to select the function
that you wish to reset.XPress and hold the . reset button on the

reverted to "0".
Calling up the range
XPress V or U on the steering wheel

The multifunction display shows the
estimated range of the vehicle, based on
the current driving style and the fuel level.
If there is only a small amount of fuel
remaining in the fuel tank, a vehicle
refueling C appears instead of the
range.

A driver's attention to the road must always
be his/her primary focus when driving. For
your safety and the safety of others, we
recommend that you pull over to a safe
location and stop before placing or taking a
telephone call. If you choose to use the
telephone while driving, please use the hands-
free device and only use the telephone when
weather, road and traffic conditions permit.
Some jurisdictions prohibit the driver from
using a mobile phone while driving a vehicle.
Bear in mind that at a speed of just 30 mph
(approximately 50 km/h ), your vehicle is
covering a distance of 44 feet (approximately
14 m) every second.

You will see one of the following display
messages in the multifunction display:
R Ready or the name of the network provider:
the mobile phone has found a network and
is ready to receive.
R No Service : No network is available.
Accepting a call
If someone calls you when you are in the
Telephone menu, a display message appears
in the multifunction display, for example:
XPress 6 on the steering wheel to accept
an incoming call.
If you are not in the Telephone menu, you can
still accept a call.
Rejecting or ending a callXPress the ~ button on the steering
wheel.
If you are not in the Telephone menu, you can
still accept a call.
Dialing a number from the phone book
You can enter new telephone numbers into
the phone book via the mobile phone (see the
separate operating instructions). If your
mobile phone is operational, you can select
and dial a number from the phone book at any
time.
XPress V or U on the steering wheel
to select the Telephone menu.XPress the & or * button to select the
desired name.
To start scrolling rapidly, press and hold the
& or * button for longer than one
second.XPress 6 to start dialing.

XIf you do not want to make a call, press the

Redialing
The on-board computer saves the last names
or numbers dialed in the redial memory.

Points to observe before use
! If you are using all sockets in the vehicle,
make sure that you do not exceed the
maximum current draw of 55 A. Otherwise,
you will overload the fuses.
The socket can be used for accessories with
a maximum power consumption of 180 W,
e.g. lamps or chargers for mobile phones.
If you use the socket for long periods when
the engine is switched off, the battery may
discharge.

Possible causes of malfunction:
R the on-board voltage of the vehicle is not
within the permissible voltage range.
R the temperature of the DC/AC converter is
momentarily too high.
R some small electronic devices have a
constant nominal power of less than
150 W, but a very high inrush current.
These devices will not work. If you connect
such a device, the 115 V power socket :
will not supply it with power.
If indicator lamp ; still does not light up,
consult a specialist workshop, e.g. an
authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.

to register. If you cannot carry out any of
the steps mentioned, the system may not
be activated.

R it has been activated and is operational.
Activation requires an available cellular
phone network, a valid SIM card and a
service subscription to a surveillance
service provider.
R the battery is sufficiently charged.
R the corresponding cellular phone network
is available for transmitting data to the

i Determining the location of the vehicle on
a map is only possible if there is sufficient
GPS reception and the vehicle position can
be forwarded to the customer center.
The mbrace system
The mbrace system provides three different
services:
R automatic and manual emergency call
R Roadside Assistance call
R MB info call
To control the volume during an mbrace call,
proceed as follows:
XPress the W or X button on the
multifunction steering wheel.

System self-test
After you have switched on the ignition, the
system carries out a self-diagnosis.

not initiate an emergency call (e.g. the
relevant cellular phone network is not
available).
The message Call Failed appears in the
multifunction display for approximately
10 seconds.
Should this occur, assistance must be
summoned by other means.
Making an emergency callXTo initiate an emergency call
manually: press cover : briefly to open.XPress SOS button ; briefly.
The indicator lamp in SOS button ;
flashes until the emergency call is ended.XWait for the voice connection with the
Response Center.XAfter the emergency call is ended, close
cover :.GWarning
If you feel at any way in jeopardy when in the
vehicle (e.g. smoke or fire in the vehicle,
vehicle in a dangerous road location), please
do not wait for voice contact after you have
pressed the SOS button. Carefully leave the
vehicle and move to a safe location. The
Response Center will automatically contact
local emergency officials with the vehicle's
approximate location if they receive an
automatic SOS signal and cannot make voice
contact with the vehicle occupants.
Roadside Assistance call buttonXOpen the stowage compartment under the
armrest ( Y page 265).XPress and hold Roadside Assistance
button : for more than two seconds.
A call to a Mercedes-Benz Roadside
Assistance Representative is initiated. The
indicator lamp in Roadside Assistance
button : flashes while the call is active.
The Connecting Call message appears in
the multifunction display and COMAND is
muted.
If a connection can be established, the Call
Connected message appears in the
multifunction display.
If a mobile phone network is available and
there is sufficient GPS reception, the mbrace
system transmits data to the Response
Center, for example:
R current location of the vehicle
R vehicle identification number
R vehicle model
R vehicle color
i The COMAND display shows that an
mbrace call is active. You can switch to the
navigation menu by pressing the NAVI
button on COMAND during the call. Spoken
commands are not available.
A voice connection is established between
the Mercedes-Benz Roadside Assistance
Representative and the vehicle occupants.
