If you wish to carry a
reserve of fuel in a can,
observe the legal restrictions
and only use a can that is type-
approved and properly secured
to the load anchorage
eyebolts. However, the risk of
fire in the event of a collision is
still increased.
WARNINGIMPORTANT
1) The flap can bear stable loads
(vehicle stationary) of up to 300
kg; using it to support greater
loads damages the hinges.
2) The load must be secured firmly
using cords and the appropriate
rings, to prevent it from sliding
lengthways, moving from side to
side or bouncing (see paragraph
“Loading advice” in the “Correct
use of the vehicle” section).
3) When transporting a heavy load
at night, you are advised to check
and adjust the beam of the dipped
headlights as appropriate.
Do not open the flap
completely when a tow
hook is fitted; it may be
damaged.
LOAD COMPARTMENT
COVER CANVAS
Some versions come with a canvas
to protect objects which are
transported in the load
compartment.
To wind it up:
– turn the mechanical stop
A-fig. 84 in the direction of the
arrow, releasing locking device B;
– open the closing devices
A-fig. 85 then loosen the straps B;
– release the straps from the
anchoring devices
(3 per side) built into the body;

To close the bonnet:
1) Hold the bonnet up with one
hand and with the other remove
stay A-fig. 90 from housing B and
fit it back into its locking device.
2) Lower the bonnet to
approximately 20 centimetres
from the engine compartment.
3) Let it drop: the bonnet closes
automatically.
Always check that the
bonnet is closed
correctly, to prevent it from
opening while the vehicle is in
motion.

REAR WINDOW
The rear window (for versions/
markets, where provided) slides
when stop A-fig. 91 is released.

PROTECTIVE GRILLE
A grille is fixed to the body to
protect the rear window and can
hold a ladder fig. 92. Use the ladder
holder to support the tallest objects
transported and to secure them
correctly. In versions with extended,
crew or Adventure cab, lift the load
limiter fig. 93-94.

If the outside temperature is very
low, diesel thickens due to the
formation of paraffin clots with
consequent defective operation of
the fuel supply system.
In order to avoid these problems,
different types of diesel are
distributed according to the season:
summer type, winter type and arctic
type (cold/mountain areas). If
refuelling with diesel fuel whose
specifications are not suitable for the
current temperature, it is advisable
to mix TUTELA DIESEL ART
additive in the proportions shown
on the container with the fuel. Pour
the additive into the tank before the
diesel fuel.
When using or parking the vehicle
for a long time in the mountains or
cold areas, it is advisable to refuel
using locally available diesel fuel.
In this case, it is also advisable to
keep the tank over 50% full.REFUELLING CAPACITY
To fill the tank completely, top up
twice after the first click of the fuel
delivery gun. Further top-ups could
cause faults in the fuel supply system.
FUEL TANK CAP
The sealing may cause a slight
pressure increase in the tank.
A suction noise when you release
the cap is therefore entirely normal.
The cap features a strap A-fig. 104
which secures it to the flap so that it
cannot be mislaid.

Do not bring naked
flames or lit cigarettes
near to the fuel tank opening:
fire risk. Also, keep your face
away from the filler to avoid
inhaling harmful fumes.
WARNING
IMPORTANT If necessary, only
replace the fuel cap with another
original part, or the operation of the
petrol vapour recovery system may
be compromised.

PARKING
Stop the engine, engage the
handbrake, engage 1st gear uphill or
reverse downhill and leave the
wheels steered towards the edge of
the road or the pavement. If the
vehicle is parked on a steep slope, it
is advisable to block the wheels with
a wedge or stone.
Do not leave the ignition key at
MAR because this drains the battery.
Always extract the key when getting
out of the vehicle.
Never leave children
alone in the unattended
vehicle.
WARNING
HANDBRAKE fig. 105
The handbrake lever is located
between the front seats.
Pull the lever upwards to engage the
handbrake and ensure that the
vehicle does not move.When the handbrake is on and the
ignition key is at MAR, the x
warning light on the instrument
panel switches on.
To release the handbrake:
1) Slightly lift the handbrake and
press release button A.
2) Hold down the button and lower
the lever. The xwarning light
switches off.
Depress the brake pedal when
carrying out this operation to
prevent the vehicle from moving
accidentally.
The vehicle must be
secured after several
clicks of the lever. If this is not
the case, contact a Fiat
Dealership to have it adjusted.

Irregular trajectories
and abrupt braking
may cause sudden movements
of the load with consequent
situations of hazard for the
driver and passengers: before
setting off, secure the load
tightly using the appropriate
hooks on the lower part of the
sides fig. 107-108; use steel
cables, ropes or chains strong
enough to hold the items to be
secured.

Warning. The additional
devices at the top of the
sides (3 per side) are
used only to fix the cover
canvas. They must not, for any
reason, be used to fix the load.In addition to these general
precautions, some simple
precautions can improve driving
safety, travelling comfort and vehicle
life:
– distribute the load evenly on the
platform: should it be necessary to
concentrate it in a single area,
arrange it by the partition
between the cab and load
compartment;
– remember that the lower the
load, the lower the vehicle’s
centre of gravity, making for a
safer drive: therefore always
position the heaviest goods lower
down;
– lastly, remember that the vehicle’s
dynamic behaviour is affected by
the weight transported: in
particular, the stopping distances
are longer, especially at high
speed.

If alloy wheels are
purchased to replace
the steel wheels, we
suggest that you retain 4
original bolts for use only with
the spare wheel. There is a risk
of damaging the wheel hubs.
Indicate the presence
of the stationary
vehicle in accordance with
current regulations: hazard
warning lights, warning triangle
etc. Passengers should get out
of the vehicle and wait until
replacement is concluded,
avoiding the risk of traffic. If
you are on a slope or uneven
surface, place wedges or other
suitable objects under the
wheels to secure the vehicle.
WARNINGCHANGING A WHEEL
Bear in mind that:
– the mass of the jack is 2.9 kg;
– the jack requires no adjustment;
– the jack cannot be repaired. It
must be replaced with an original
part if damaged;
– no tool other than the cranking
device illustrated in this section
may be fitted on the jack.
Never start the engine
when the vehicle is
jacked up.If a trailer is used,
detach the trailer before
raising the vehicle.
