Immobilizer
When the ignition is switched on, the data on
the ign ition key are scanned automatically.
I f an unauthorized key was used,
SAFE is dis­
p layed cont inuously in the odometer display
f ield. The veh icle cannot be operated
~page 38 .
Voltmeter display
The vo ltmeter shows the voltage in the vehi­
cle electrical system. If the reading drops be­
low 12 volts with the engine running, you
should have the power supply (battery and
generator) inspected by an authorized Audi
dealer .
Voltage can drop below 8 volts when you
start the engine .

Service interval display
The service in terval display reminds you when
your next service
is due.

The schedule for the next oil change or inspec­
tion is calc ulated automatically and displayed
according ly. The display works in two stages :
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a se rv­
ice reminder appears in the display when yo u
turn on the ignition.
Afte r abo ut
5 seconds the display sw itches
back to normal. The d ista nce and time re­
maining are updated each time the ignition is
turned o n until the date due for service is
reached .
Service due
W hen the due d ate for service is reached , the
message
Ser vice due! appears in the instr u­
ment cluster immediately after you tu rn on
the ignition. Additionally, a warning tone
sounds. After about
5 seconds the display
sw itches back to normal.
Calling up the serv ice schedules
I f o r when an oil change or inspect ion is due,
can be shown in the instrument cl uster by se­
l ecting the service interval display . Select
Check > Se rvice > Oil change or Ser vice by us­
ing the
I R ESET I button and the rocker switch

Average fuel mileage
The average fuel economy in MPG (l/ 100 km)
since you last clea red the memory appears in
this display .
Current fuel mileage
The instantaneous fue l consumption in miles
per gallo n (l/100 km) is shown in this d isp lay.
W hen the ve hicle is stationary, t he most re­
cent fuel consumption is displayed.
Average speed
The average speed in mph (km/h) since the
l ast time the disp lay was reset appears i n the
d isp lay.
Elapsed t ime
T he length of time that you have been driving
since you last reset the memory appears in
this display . T he maximum time period that
can be recorded is 999 hours and 59 minutes .
Distance
The elapsed distance since the la st time the
memory was clea red appears i n the display .
The max imum d istance that can be recorded
i s 9,999 .9 m iles (9 ,999 .9 kilometers) .
(D Tips
All stored values will be lost if the vehicle
battery is disconnected .
Operation
The trip computer is controlled by two
switches on the windshield wiper lever .

A malfunction can have various causes .
If the II] warn ing light in the instrumen t clus­
ter flashes for approximately one minute and
then remains continuously illuminated and
addit ionally the
11@18' symbo l appears in the

A whee l sensor or other component may
have fai led .
- Dur ing initialization the sys tem has detect ­
ed more than 4 wheels on the vehicle , for
examp le w hile d riving next to another car
w ith a t ire pressure monitoring system.
- Audi rep lacement parts were not used .
- If snow cha ins a re being used, system func-
tion can be compromised due to the shie ld ­
ing properties of the chains.
- The tire pressu re monitoring system may
not be avai lab le because of a radio malfunc­
tion.
- T ransmitters with the same freq uency, such
as radio headphones in the vehicle or radio
equ ipment, can cause a temporary disrup­
tion of the system through excessive elec­
tromagnet ic fie lds .
- Eliminate the interference if yo u can and
then proceed as follows: Turn off the eng ine
for 20 minutes. Then drive another 10 mi­
nutes. If the war ning light comes on again,
you shou ld contact yo ur autho rized Aud i
dea le r i mmediately to have the prob lem cor­
rected .
- Do not use commerc ia lly available t ire sea l­
ants. Othe rwise, the elec trical components
of the tire pressure mo nitor ing system will
no longer work properly and the sensor for
the t ire press ure monito ring system wi ll
have to be rep laced by a qualified wo rkshop.

The valet key on ly fi ts the lock in the d river's
door and the ignition l ock. If you have to leave

using the release bu ttons .

Master key with remote control
The remote control allows you to lock or un­
lock the vehicle electronically .
The transmitter and battery are located in the
head of the remote control. The receiver is lo­
cated inside the vehicle . T he maximum effec ­
tive range depends on several things . Remem­
be r, if the battery is weak, the effective range
dec reases.
If you need to replace the remote control, or if
you need to have it repaired, you must see
your author ized Audi dealer. On ly then can
you use the key aga in .
@ Tips
- If the ignition is sw itched on, the remote
control system is d eactivated .
- The remote cont rol system can be affec t­
ed by other systems operating in the
same frequency range close to the vehi­
cle, such as mob ile telephones, televi­
s ion broadc asting stat ions, etc.

Resetting the remote control
The remote control must be reset if the vehi­
cle does no t unlock.

Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthor­
ized use of your vehicle.
