Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever is used to operate the turn signals
and the high beam as well as the headlight
flasher .

The turn s ignal and high beam leve r has the
following functions:
Turn signals ¢ c::>
"" Lift the lever up all the way¢ fig. 66 to use
the right turn signals @, or push the lever
down all the way to use the left turn signals

""Move the lever (up or down) just to the point
of resistance to use the turn signals for as
l ong as you need them, for example when
changing lanes.
"" Briefly move the lever up or down just to the
po int of resistance and then release it to
flash the turn signals
three times in succes­
sion.

High beam [D
"" Push the lever forward @ to switch on the
high beam.
"" Pull the lever back towards you to switch off
the high beam.
Headlight flasher [D

Notes on these features
- The turn signals only work with the ignition
switched on. The indicator lights

page 14 also blink. - After you have turned a corner, the turn sig­
na l switches off automatically .
- The
high beam works only when the head­
lights are on . The indicator light. in the
instrument cluster illuminates when the
high beams are on.
- The
headlight flasher works on ly as long as
you ho ld the lever -even if there a re no
lights switched on. The indicator light . in
the instrument cluster illuminates when you
use the headlight flasher.

Do not use the high beam or headlight
flasher if you know that these could be
blinding oncoming traffic.
Interior Lights
Interior light s
The interior lights include the reading lights
for the driver and the front passenger.

Activating door contact circuit
.,. Press the button@. The LED in the button
illumi nates.

Front reading lights ~
"" Press one of the switches @ to turn the
r ight or left reading l ight on or off.
With the door contact circuit, the interior
lights tur n on as soon as you unlock the vehi-
cle or open the doors. The interior lights are

The following steps apply only when there is
no obstacle such as a wall near the parking
spot. Otherwise, please read the information
prov ided in the "Parking Next to Obstacles"
section.
~ Activate the turn signal.
~ Position yo ur vehicle parallel to the edge of
the street, approximately 3 ft. (1 m) from a parked vehicle .
~ Switch the navigation system and the nav i­
gat ion system display on.
~ Se lect reverse gear . The parking aid tu rns on
and par king mode 1 appears on the display .
~ Press the control bu tto n 1 on the nav igat io n

~ Backup and align yo ur vehicle so the b lue
area @ borders on the rear end of the vehi­
cle or on the parking spot line. The bl ue area
represents an extension of the veh icle's out­
line by approximate ly 16 ft (5 meters) to the
rear . The long side of the blue area should
be o n the curb . The entire blue area must fit
i nto the parking spot .

Parking next to obstacles
When t here is an obstacle (such as a wall)
next to the pa rking spot, choose a spot w it h
mo re space on t he sides. Position the long
side of the b lue a rea so that there is sufficient
space from the curb. The a rea m ust no t be on
the c urb. You w ill also need to start turn ing
the steeri ng wheel much earlie r. T he re should
be a s uffic ient amo unt of space between the
curb and the blue c urve, and the blue c urve

tion of trave l of the vehicle rear is repre ­
sented depend ing on the stee ring wheel
angle. T he veh icle front swings out more
than the vehicle rear. Ma inta in p lenty of
distance so that you r o utside m irror or a
corner of you r vehicle does no t coll ide with
any obstacles. This can damage to your ve­ hicle.

140 Child Safety
The tension on the safety belt for the front
passenger seat will be different for an adult
who is properly using the safety belt as com­
pared to the tension on the be lt when it is
used to attach a child restraint to the seat.
The sensor below the latch for the safety belt
for the front seat passenger measures the

Regardless of the ch ild restraint t hat you use,
make sure that it has been certified to meet
United States Fede ral Motor Vehicle Safety
Standards and has been certified by its manu­
facturer for use with an airbag . If in excep­
tional c ircumstances you must use it on the
front passenger seat, caref ully read all of the
information on c hild safety and Advanced A ir­
bags and heed all of the applicable WARN­
INGS . Make certain that the child restraint is
correctly recognized by the weight-sensing mat i nside the front passenge r seat, that the
fro nt passenger airbag is turned off and that
the airbag status is a lways correctly signaled
by the
PASSENGER AIR BAG O FF light.

quirements for advanced airbags with each
and every ch ild restra int that has ever been
sold in the past or will be sold over the course of the useful l ife of your veh icle .
For t his reason, the United States National
Highway Traffic Safety Adm inistrat ion has
published a list of spec ific type, makes and
models of chi ld restraints that must be used
to certify comp liance of the Advanced Airbag
System in your veh icle with the suppression
requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety

Automatic mode (no rmal operation )
-Extending automa tically : This oc curs when
driv ing faster than approximately 62 mph
(100 km/h) or at a certain eng ine compart­
ment tempe rature

- Retracting automatically : This occurs when
dr iv ing slower than approximately 22 mph
(35 km/h) or at a certain engine compart­
ment temperature

M anual mode
- Extending manually : Press the switch

- Retracting manually : When dr iv ing at
speeds below approximately 12 mph (20 km/h), press and hold the switch to retract
the rear spo iler. When driving at speeds be­
tween 12 mph and 62 mph (20 km/h and

Indicator light
When the indicato r light f.-j appears, there is
a system malfunction . The rear spoiler may
not be able to extend . This cou ld change the
veh icle's d riving characterist ics at h igh
s peeds. Do not exceed 87 mph (140 km/h) .
Drive to your au thorized Audi dealer immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected .
A WARNING
Driving at higher speeds without the rear
spoiler deployed ca n impair handling char­
acteristics, making the ve hicle ha rder to
control.
- I mp rope r operation of the rear spoiler
can cau se crushing injuries. Always ma ke
sure tha t nobody, especia lly children, is
i n the way when the rear spoi ler is de­
p loyed or retracted.
- Always obey speed limits and other traf­
fic laws .
- H ot air from the eng ine compartmen t
can escape thro ugh the rear spo iler when
it is open and it could burn you .
(D Note
-Never push the vehicle or apply force to
t he rear spoiler -it could be damaged.
- Ope rate the rear spoiler manually on ly
when the eng ine compartmen t lid is
closed, otherwise there is a ris k of dam­
age .
(D Tips
Clean the spoiler comp artment eve ry 2 to
3 months. The spoiler compa rtment m ust
always be free of ice, snow, leaves or other
debr is.
